Maybe I read it wrong but I can't see anywhere in the pdf where it says that you can ally daemons to daemons. It can only have one optional detachment which is a Lords of War one.
YOU'RE RIGHT! Can't believe I missed that, though that paragraph is a bit of a word salad. No allies for Ruinstorm Daemons, not even themselves! Pinning this.
I knew I wasn't crazy!
@@ArbitorIanno you were right, it's a double negative. If you're not daemons you're not allowed daemon allies aka if you are daemons you can have daemon allies
"An army that includes a Primary Detachment that does not use the Ruinstorm Daemons Army List cannot include an optional Detachment (including Allied or Lords of War Detachments) drawn from the Ruinstorm Daemons Army List"
I love that it's not "I put some skulls on the shelves", but rather "I put EXTRA skulls on the shelves". Gotta love 40k.
Finally: the Good Guys
For Deamon Brutes, the Ogroid Theridons actaully make excellent count as if you dont wanna use the FW ones but still wanna be in the range of "big deamonic looking brute on 50mm base weilding a large two handed weapon"
I really enjoy how open to interpretation this army is. In the lore Daemons are extremely varied and to see an incursion of just one kind of Daemon is pretty rare
If you read the lore, this is a much more faithful representation than any of thr 40K editions, Daemonettes are always my go to example. In the lore they're supposed to take the form of whatever you find most attractive, and yet we all know how the slaanesh models look
@@daniwalmsley611 They are supposed to be unsettling/creepy too though, not just eyecandy...
@@KuK137 sorry I'm not saying they should be just strippers and body builders but rather I alwasy felt like daemons appaerance was dependant on who was viewing them rather than a fixed form. and so every player having their own interpretation and model choice feels more like how I read the lore
For a while I've thought a "cyber-daemon" army would be really cool. Representing Daemons who are bound by debts to Vashtorr and the Soul Forges, and so have been modified with all kinds of mechanical bits. I think it would be a great kitbashing project. So it's good that Horus Heresy gives explicit options for fielding them with that theme.
This is what prompted me to post the idea of using Skaven. Clan Skyre minis would be a good source of bits for this.
The machine daemons list seems like a fun way to field Vashtorr
Maybe with the rest of the Daemon models kitbashed with loads of mechanical bits. Throw in some Daemon Engine models standing in for the more elite unit choices, like the Brutes or whatever. Really go in on the idea of Daemons who cyberized either for power or to pay off debt to the Soul Forges. There's no reason only the Soul Grinder should get all the fun.
I’ve been building this exact army. Cyberdaemons inspired by DOOM, kitbashed with admech and vehicle bits. I’ve even built a bloodletter using an invictor warsuit shoulder socket. I made them for 40k, but my friends first lured me to AoS and now to HH with the promise of getting to use my painstakingly crafted daemons lol
The cut after "in fact, encourage--" has me cackling. 🤣
Blimey, Ian's output seems to have actually increased while he's travelling the world for work.
I attended a Horus Heresy event this past fall, and I can say, my Bound Brutes were really fun. They were able to keep a bunch of Rapier Battery units stuck in combat for the whole game, essentially removing a terrifying threat to my army by just harrassing them.
Bulky counts towards outnumbered rules :) such as Night lords abilities
You could use Skaven direct from AoS for this army and cover everything except harriers I think. Grey Seer, Vermin Lord, clanrats or plague monks for lessers, rat ogres, and rat swarms.
This army guide series is great, would love to see something similar for 40k, killteam or necromunda.
I’ve never had a huge interest in HH game as black Templars are my 40K army and just counting them as something else doesn’t feel right. That said I recently began my own chaos demon army, and definitely would enjoy using them! So this might be my way in!
Dunno if you checked them out but I think Imperial fists 1st company basically are Black templars.
ouh, I really like the idea of an army where you can actually convert every single model and make something really of your own, als long as you keep within the rough outlines.
In the old Chaos Space Marine-Dex the army-list also included 'undefined' lesser and greater deamons - due to that I used Dark Elve-Harpies (the 6th Metal-flying-girls) as some kind of 'sligh slaaneshi' Gargoyles - as suggested in the video.
I personally prefer this kind of daemon list. It's way better for converting stuff too.
The Ravenous Dissolution Aetheric Dominion is actually supposed to represent Malal without naming him explicitly. It's actually tempting to get some of the demons from Knightmare Miniatures that are based on the old Malal daemon designs and use them in Heresy.
Yeah, it's really cool they did that, in a way that doesn't step on any toes, rights-wise. I'm to understand there are many folks who really liked Malal and want to field their Daemons. (I'm also a fan of Knightmare Miniatures's output. I've been eyeing the "Demon Lord of Malice" model for a while, to be used as a Daemon Prince of Tzeentch on foot).
If you look at the Chaos star from the Ohmn-Mat document (p. 12), it is easier to interpret the Dominions. Classic rivalries are placed on opposite sides, e.g. Heedless Slaughter (Khorne) vs. Rapturous Sensation (Slaanesh). By this method one can infer that Tzeentch is represented as Infernal Tempest, not Formless Distortion; the latter is in opposition to the Soul Forge one, i.e. Malevolent Artifice.
Personally, I see FD as Pater Mutatis or even Morghur.
You could use 40K CSM Possessed models for brutes. Especially the newer sculpts.
I genuinely would love to be able to use something like this in AoS! It looks like a really cool and creative way to build an army
It would be nice to be able to bring Bound Dæmons with a Questoris Household. You would not be able to use the Conqueror of Worlds Dark Blessing, as that has an automatic Warlord trait of Master of the Household, so you would need to have another knight as a warlord - say Infernal Tempest as that givens the a Leadership of 7 for psychic powers. Now give them the Malefic Supplicant Warlord trait and you have your Big Stompy Robots and Icky Warp-spawn army. Have a Lancer backed up by Daemon Brutes - it may not make tactical sense, but it does fit Rule of Cool™
Really liking this army idea! How do people feel about the idea of using like Skaven models for this? (I want an excuse to use the verminlord model)...
Love this army, I wish they would get more support.
But I like the improvements here and I might start one.
Update: I have started and already completed my first big model for a Daemon Behemoth.
I’m kitbashing all the models myself from what I have around.
I gave the list a try yesterday using my Tzeentch Daemons, although i used Encroaching Ruin as the army rule.
I pretty much used models as suggested but my Sovereign was a Prince, the Arch-Daemon was a Lord of Change and my Behemoth was a Burning Chariot.
They are a few n list to use, hellishly fast with some scary big hitters but the smaller stuff does collapse like a souffle in a cupboard when Terminators are about.
What an excellent rundown! Thanks for that :)
Also a good opportunity to use models from the Middle-earth™list, though you should probably stay away from the more recognizable creatures, so no Balrog.
Something like Goblin Warriors as lesser daemons, a Dweller in the Dark as a sovereign.
I always thought the Troll Brute looked more like a Warhammer model, anyway. Could be used as a behemoth. A bit small, maybe.
Finally a way to play my beginner tyranids army in heresy if i want to try it out.
I dont have much expirience in the hobby, but just looking at them I think Nighthaunt models might make some great demons
Thank you for another great video!!
I like the thought of swarms of books from a bookshelf being a unit in this army
Thanks for the video.
Biggest problem with this list is it does not have enough anti armor choices. HH needs armor and these demons are gonna get chewed up by any tank heavy lists, which any decent HH army will be.
I love how you pronounce rath. It reminds me of the kid in the old Hero's Quest commercial. "Fire of Roth!"😄
Hi Ian - great vid as ever, especially the help to give people a chance to find the right models! I wanted to ask about the Aetheric Dominions. I definitely agree that on first read the Formless Distortion sounds like Tzeentch because of the changy daemons thing. But it struck me as being in the wrong place - situated between Khorne and Nurgle rather than in opposition to Nurgle, where Infernal Tempest is. This is backed up by the symbols of the 8 pointed star found in Dark Heresy, where the Tzeentch symbol is in the Infernal Tempest position (although all rotated a quarter turn). Re-reading the description of Formless Distortion is sounds more like mutation and corruption rather than just change, with the comment "roiling agglomerations of immaterial flesh and bone" being especially un-Tzeentchy. Meanwhile Infernal Tempest talks a lot about light and colour (prismatic, shimmering crystals). So I think maybe the "change" comment is a bit of misdirection? Would love to get your thoughts!
Cool. Thank you for sharing.
My brain is just constantly going towards Flesh Eater Courts for Undivided daemons.
- Sovereign - Zombie Dragon or Terrorgheist
- Hiererach - Abhorrant Archregent
- Brutes - Crypt Horrors
- Beasts - Undead horses from the Endless Spells
- Lesser Daemons - Crypt Ghouls
That's just off the top of my head
The "infact encoura-" gag made me laugh hard
I was waiting for this list since I had an idea of sylvaneth miniatures as demon !
Ah. I knew Samus was coming.
14:05 for rules interactions that call for bulky as a modifier like the night lords legion rule as an example
this is great
Hey man, thanks for the video but I would say your Hierarch should be Daemon Princes size models (Epidemus could work) but Herald of Slaanesh or Skulltaker are clearly Harbinger models. Furthermore Bulky is there for various rules like rampage and stuff where you need to outnumber or be outnumbered for effect to take place.
I love these vids
The more you don’t do a Sisters of silence army guide…. the MORE I’ll ask!
I mean, hear me out. Night Haunt are perfect for this too. Hell, get the Night Bringer for your Sovereign!
They have bulky USR for certain rules which count bulky models as 2 for if the unit is outnumbered or not
Hey - first off love your vid’s!
So we also did a review of daemons of the ruinstorm (on our own podcast) and kinda came to the same conclusion that most people on here are talking about sadly. There is just SO much watered down and wasted potential in these rules - it is somewhat sad to compare them to 1.0.
Does this mean daemons are unplayable - not at all! There will be some hard lists from daemons (maybe not rivaling stone gauntlet lol - but hard). The problem is because the variety is so dumbed down and cast aside - the same lists are going to show up. 3x sovereigns with wings and psychic powers with swords, an arch daemon with the same, some behemoths and swarms and brutes for flavour.
Why take a Hierarch when… honestly… it sucks. Harbinger - such a great idea - why can’t he join units!?!?! It’s like someone passed this off to an intern, said “oh snap we forgot the rules” and slapped these together.
Ffs - we had 15 warlord traits in the last rule set… and something like 15 combinations of wargear/mutations. Arch daemons had their own table - THEIR OWN TABLE - of powers that made them feel like arch daemons. Literally - they could have taken the rules from 1.0, modify them slightly to fit the new rules…. AND LITERALLY JUST REPRINTED THEM.
Overall - am I happy we got rules - sure yeah. Am I happy with the rules we got - absolutely not. Im hoping - HOPING - maybe GW revisits these rules in a campaign book and revises them to fit more 1.0 rules. It’s… it’s just sad.
The good news is that at least are playable and didn’t get face punched like Solar Aux or Militia 😂
Why does (almost) everything have Bulky when they can't use transports? Outnumbering rules. Bulky increases the model count when dealing with outnumbering rules, primarily Nightlords.
I would think about using some Tyranids models in screaming colours and some demon parts ...
Shit, now I need to make a Malice army. Gotta find a line of models cause the kitbashes I planned would be *expensive* for a full army.
The video is in the playlist but isnt listed under videos on the channel. Spooky.
I wonder if it is possible to youse the daemons of the ruinstorm in warhammer 40k for my disciples of be'lakor army
Can you please do a video summery of the new siege of terra novel end and the death part 2?
Another good video, thanks Ian. I really think they should have unlocked aetheric dominions for your units, or allowed you to pick 2, it's the only thing in this, tbh, bland statline porridge of a list that has any juice to it.
I dunno, I think there are already enough min/max lists like that in Heresy already - I much prefer themed armies. If I had my way, Dark Angels would have to pick a Wing per detachment!
@@ArbitorIan Darn you picked a good example, still haven't even bothered reading the Dark Angels rules. I would maybe agree more but as a whole the dominions are thematic but individually lack a bit of spice. Which was true of the 'Provenances' but wisely they allowed you to mix and match.
I used a Glottkin for my Behemoth
The bulky rules are for outhumbering rules right? Need a value for the Night Lords rules to be determined if they kick in or not right?
It’s a shame they completely gutted the options for this list. Two flavours of lesser daemons. Yeesh.
In terms of options, it's broadly the same as in HH1. The changes are:
- There are more Aetheric Dominions (8 to 6) but each of them is a simpler rule
- Daemon Beasts are Elites but used to be Troops
In HH1 there was also a single 'Lesser Daemons' unit and they used Aetheric Dominions to theme them.
@@ArbitorIan I more mean the number of upgrades each unit could take, which I understand the reason for gutting, but still think one or two extra upgrades would have been nice. In 1e you could take rending claws or brutal talons(or something to that effect) as just two examples of the massive amounts of stuff they could take, so every Daemon unit could be different - which naturally made keeping track of what was what was a nightmare, but I think there was a better middle point!
I always thought it was odd that the Emperor, a man-god with 50000 + years of experience of human nature, settled on Soviet-style state atheism as his solution for dealing with Chaos.
He's the personification of humanity, of course his solutions are bad😉
Yeah, it's up there with the Thanos "kill half of everyone to cope with overcrowding" plan.
What if the Emperor was Stalin?
Why not? Atheism works, what is really stupid is the fact there are so many imbeciles in the Imperium who think dude in shiny suit = god...
@@KaanfightI mean he is implied to have been both heroes and fascist monsters at various points in history so he might’ve lmao
Nearly spit my drink at "Sexy cows".
Tyranids would be good for this
Epic less daemons (for example bloodletters) could work nicely for the swarms as well
Why have bulky when you can’t ride transports? Because of the rules relating to outnumbering the opponent, like Reaping Blow.
The _real_ question is why mechanicum automata don’t have bulky whatsoever
I wonder if Daemons are going to get any support in Legion Imperialis?
They don't even get any real support in HH...
Ian: "You can flavour this as you want."
Me, an intelectual:
*Crushing armies with Coca-Cola can pinned to 80 mil base* 😂😂😂
18:30 Greater Ruinstorm Daemon Beast is either a Gigantic Chaos Spawn or Giant Spined Chaos Beast. Both are FW OOP models.
Are you back from working away a lot?
Demons? but it's Necronvember!!!
NECROVEMBER!
bulky is to figure out who is outnumbered. :)
comment for the comment god!
i feel like a normie but i like those ruinstorm brutes
Damn secret nazi Lord of War units
too much ytub coomercials ! i'm out this madness !
