    I legit think you make the best most natural reviews of these cars.. Mx-5 has been reviewed to death and I’ve seen nearly all of them but yours seems to give a great real drivers view that others lack

    I like how Mazda just went like "Ah, by the way, why don't we just make the MX-5 look like pure pornografy this time?" when they made the ND

    Great video. That scene where you put the top up when driving, that smile - that is exactly how I feel when I drive this car. I have the RF, but I still have the same emotion.

    I store my sunglasses in that little center console compartment in my Club -- _just_ big enough for it. And thanks for the trunk button location! I thought it was very strange that the trunk wouldn't have a button but the doors do. The go-cart analogy was also super spot on, even though this car does have a reasonably quick 0-60 time just the same.

    Love that the engine bay isn't just a bunch of plastic shielding; looks classic. Good job Mazda!
    I've been looking into buying a roadster and I think this video tipped the scale towards this EXACT model. The colors here are PERFECT. Machine Grey Metallic, cherry red top, red & black interior, black wheels, and red calipers? Beautiful.

    Loved the review, car details explained very well. The MX-5 is truly a wonderful and fun car to drive. I own an 2017RF as well as a 2011 NC and I love them both as they are such different cars to drive. In my option My NC was a Special Edition and has the Bilstein shocks etc that were standard on that model and just has that little bit more sportier feel about it whereas the ND with the standard suspension has a more sedan like feel to it and is a little smaller than the slightly bigger NC.
    The lack of a glove box and the underdash position of the 12V power outlet along with that hard to maintain piano black finishes featured on some exterior panels are my main criticisms of the ND. That aside however it is a wonderful sports car and both models are excellent cars from Mazda.😊

    Personally, I would choose soft top Miata over RF Miata just for the open cockpit feel when carving corners. The color of the soft top on your tester coupled with the gray metallic paint is pretty great too!

    I got one. But it wasn’t yesterday. About a month and a half ago when they announced the $4000 incentive. Wish I had seen your video the day after though haha! I got black with red top, Club minus BBS/Brembo/Recaro package. Best value to me. Bonus that 2018 got standard heated cloth seats on Club trim. If I could have gotten the Machine Gray I would have. That color is gorgeous.

    You know, I always think about getting a Miata but I don't like not having the extra space my Mazda 3 hatch has. Like better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. I'll just have to get a better job so I can afford having two vehicles.

    The Miata is about driving excitement, it makes 40 mph look like 60 mph with things like hydraulic assist rack and pinion steering. All those electronic bells and whistles will age to obsolescence in two to four years. Compare the phase three to the four before you buy. For one thing you will find the cockpit more functional.

    Technically, it's not a miata and shouldn't be called as such. Mazda dropped the name "Miata" since the 3rd generation NC. The owner's manual, badge, and the ND itself doesn't even have the name "miata" on it anywhere. But they still use it for their ads and promotion, and so the name won't quite go away. I wish Mazda would make up their mind and just fully commit to MX-5.

    • @mindspinn311
      @mindspinn311 6 років тому +2

      The name Miata should have never happened. I don’t think they ever realized how wimpy it sounds to Americans, even though the California design team who got the car made in the 80’s picked it. But yes it’s MX-5 in Europe always has been, and the Miata name that was used only for North America was dropped years ago. Not sure why it’s on the window sticker.

    After three test drives, I finally took my wife down to Mazda for her overall review. Upon entering the passenger side she told me quote; “DO NOT EVER EXPECT ME TO SIT IN THIS THING!”
    After driving a few miles, I and her changed places an MAN! Once my butt landed in the wienny lil “TIME-OUT Corner” called a passenger seat area I understood what she meant. Its fine going to run an errand, or go out to lunch. But actual traveling in for hours?!? Naaaah! Noway!
    This cars is seriously only a man person sports car.
    But, I do agree with the reviews I have watched and read, it is a VERY PLAYFUL enjoyable machine with a very high fun factor for sure.
    Cheers! Gary

      Well, it's not the best place to sit. But me and my wife we travelled 6 hours from Germany to France in it, with me sitting on the passengers side for quite a while (it's my wife's car). And I'm 6'4'' (195 cm). Worked quite well.

    Simplisticness? Maybe you wanted simplicity? Sorry, I'm a pain that way.
    I'm a Miata true believer with a 2004 Mazdaspeed Mx-5 that I put over a thousand miles on last week on a road trip around Lake Champlain, up to Montreal, and back home to Connecticut via northern Vermont and meandering along the upper Hudson River between Glens Falls, NY and and Albany. I put less than a hundred miles on freeways. Miata's are made for the winding, hilly back roads of New England.
    And Forrest is right; Miata's are street-legal go karts. You don't get in them, you put them on.
    Forrest also may have just sold me on a new Club ND Miata. I don't know how I can do it; I'm never parting with my '04 NB.
    Question; Does the MX-5 Club ND have anti-sway bars front and rear along with the other go-fast goodies?
    Thanks for the great video.

      Definitely this. I test drove them both and this feels like a luxury sports car compared to the BRZ because the interior is so nice however, the brz does have much more room and trunk storage. If you already have a car for getting groceries/moving items and are just looking for a fun sports car, then definitely get the miata if trunk space is not an issue.

    Nice review. The interior kind of kills it for me, not really useable for longer trips with a passenger and that transmission hump, but overall I approve.... Wondering if you’d do a comparison with the new Fiat 124 as you mentioned it, and specifically with the longer road trip in mind.

    • @danielisbell
      @danielisbell 6 років тому

      The only benefits for the 124 on a road trip would be the slightly larger trunk, & more sound deadening. Space & layout wise, the interiors are identical.

      The 17's are fine, but putting a meatier tire on it does wonders for the look. My 215-45/17 RE-71R tires look much better than either the factory 205-45/17 S001 or the 205-45/17 EC DWS tires I daily with now.

    • @Saboda53
      @Saboda53 6 років тому

      Maybe does wonders for looks, but fact is, a smaller, narrower and most of all LIGHTER wheel/tire does wonders for handling. Which is more important to me than looks.

    • @danielisbell
      @danielisbell 6 років тому

      The looks are a secondary concern for me as well. The RE-71R was purchased specifically for autocross. If anything, I should've stepped up to the 225-45/17 that the other competitors are using. The 215s were significantly cheaper at the time, so I figured the small difference in tread width wasn't worth the money. There may be slight weight differences, but the additional tread with is a bigger benefit in the range we're discussing. I'm also sticking with stock width wheels (& lighter weight ones at that), so we're not talking major changes beyond the tire compound (which is a major change).

    • @Saboda53
      @Saboda53 6 років тому

      Good move. Reducing "unsprung weight" by switching to lighter wheels is huge - yet many "enthusiasts" opt for bigger, heavier wheels 'cause they look cool. From "Tire Rack":
      "A vehicle's total weight is the sum of all of its parts and affects its ability to accelerate, brake and corner. Reducing the total weight will enhance the vehicle's performance because less weight needs to be controlled and therefore, less energy is required. Unsprung weight is the weight under the springs which moves up and down as the vehicle rides over uneven roads and leans in the corners. Reducing unsprung weight allows the springs and shock absorbers to be more effective in controlling the suspension's movement. Additionally, a vehicle's rotational weight includes all parts that spin including everything in the vehicle's driveline from the engine's crankshaft to its wheels and tires. This affects the energy required to change speed as the vehicle accelerates and brakes. As you would guess, reducing the weight of any of these rotating components will enhance the vehicle's performance because less energy will be required to increase or decrease their speed."

      When you consider that the average transaction price for new cars industry-wide for 2018 is $36k, coupled with the fact that the MX-5 starts at less than $26k, then it's difficult to seriously claim that MX-5 is too expensive.

    • @padistedor

    • @vossler360
      @vossler360 6 років тому

      If you look at the lowest Sport trim, you should be able to find some new examples for around 26k. There's a new MX-5 Sport listed for $25,300 at one of the local Mazda dealerships in my area. That price is in line with many of the FWD hot hatches in the market, so I think the retail price for the MX-5 is fair.

      They've never been an issue for me in that location. If they are for you, they just pull out. 155hp out of 2.0 is pathetic. The old ones make 135 from a 1.8. It should be making about 200hp so it competes with gt86.

      It's already quicker than a GT86. Also, the MX5 is getting a new engine this year with 181hp, making the gap even larger.

      Just google "mx5 181hp". There's plenty of posts about it.
      Here's one newautocarrelease.com/2019-mazda-mx-5-miata/
      It has more HP and a little more torque. Looks like it's gonna rev a little higher, too. I read a german article saying it reaches its peak at 7000rpm. The same article says the steering wheel will telescope as well in the new model.
      Last month I contacted my local Mazda dealer in Germany and they confirmed that the new engine is coming. A couple of days later they even called me back saying I could already order one and the first ones will be shipped in about 4 months.

      spoony spoonicus You don’t get the point of this car. Do you really believe that the Mazda engineers can’t get more than 155 from a 2.0 liters engine??

    if you're over 6'2 you won't fit in this car.

      Hey, if you're over 6'2" there's a lot of things you can't do. Like snooze comfortably on any normal couch. Easily fit in standard hotel beds. And yes, drive fabulous little sports cars. What can I say; sometimes life's not fair.
