All the talk about a roller, and scratched paint. This trailer is like a pipe wrench. It’s got a tough job to do. The only roller it needs is a paint roller every couple
of years. The floor of the trailer is a wear deck. As for the second winch, for all the time this trailer will be doing the actual job it’s built for doesn’t justify
the cost. How many roll deck wreckers do you see with a second winch to straighten out a car the guy is loading, and they’re doing that all day long ?
Paint in this application is only superficial. It’s like paint on the blade of a bulldozer. They don’t stay new for ever. Use it, don’t abuse it.
No need for rollers or worry about the tree logs scraping the paint. There was a metal chain trapped under the first log as he unloaded it. He didn't notice it because of his sightline. Would have been simple to remove and save wear on the trailer deck.
George, no issues with paint but a tail roll reduces or eliminated lots of "cam over's" or surging of irregular shapes as they're loaded. This means the load moves much more smoothly and as such can be spotted more easily to balance over the axles- instead of having it surge forward and over wt the tongue.
my point is based on the heavy equipment loading tail roll trucks, trailers and equipment haulers, no worries about paint- but a cam over surge can be unhealthy. Tail roll would reduce/eliminate that risk when using a cammed arch method or handling loads.
Best comment I've seen on youtube in about 3 years.

Trailer looks amazing. Even took it on the freeway! Matt was feeling it!!!
Man I’ve climbed a lot of trees and I’ve never even thought to use a pole saw. You just change things for me. Thanks
That thing works , plain and simple ! I can see it used for hoisting all sorts of things onto a deck trailer , from boats ,Good motorcycles , engines , logs for firewood , big rocks etc , so bloody simple . Brilliant !
I'm SO Glad that , that went WELL !
What an Excellent Trailer!
Cheers.
Colin
Great shots of a real tree lover, taking down a tree and re-purposing it's lumber.
And congrats on the trailer. What a blessing to have it right! Hard work pays off!
Thanks again, Matt!
Great to see how dedicated equipment works so well.
Its got to be very satisfying to have build your trailer and have it work so very well. Impressive for sure!
I knew that first log was heavy when I saw that fender flex, I remember you building them, those fenders are not weak!!!!
I've been doing tree work my whole life and have never fallen out of a tree, however I have fallen off a ladder more times than I can count. Ladders, pole saws, and big trees equals big danger
i was thinking the same thing. Always heard that ladders, and tree trimming or falling, don't mix
My one-time cutting a limb from a ladder taught me that lesson.
ladders not tied in doesn't mix. this is dangerous!
honestly pole saw is fine by me not using a helmet however thats a huge nono for me. Thou he got the work done with no injuries so if that is how he wants to work thats fine by me
He did a beautiful job taking the tree down and his system worked great for him. The only point I was making was that don't try that at home if your new to tree work.
fitting 1st Log from a church, sort like a blessing for the trailer, and great most wood getting used Great Build
I am impressed by your thought process in the design and building of the trailer. Nicely done. Thanks for sharing.
Matt, I'm sure this has been suggested before but it would be quite interesting to me to get an actual log weight. Maybe arrange to go through a truck scale before and after pickup for the really huge ones. It would allow us to see how accurate the weight estimation calc is. Thanks for making these videos.
I don’t know how I got here but I was on the edge of my seat the whole time.
Amazing job planning and building this trailer and sawmill operation, will be building my operation like yours!!! Kudos to the Arborist! That’s unbelievably hard and dangerous work that requires nerves of steel, a clear mind and a strong healthy body with a rock solid work ethic! Great job to you all!!!
I'm super pleased that you super engineered this log trailer and made a super video to tell us how super it is.
That was immense. Trailer looks fab and works well. Dude with the saw was a top hole tree surgeon.
Looking forward to seeing it slabbed.
thank you!
What a magnificent tree! Your trailer functioned and held up well under the strain. Happy for you.
Thanks!
Wow, nearly 8000 lbs and the trailer handled it easily. Proof your engineering specs and expert build were up to the task. Well Done!!!
that is the best chain saw work ive seen in years!!
You could almost use a second smaller winch to guide the log as it gets loaded. That new trailer works as good as it looks. Great video of you and it in action.
or just run pulley system down both sides.
I was thinking the same thing, The larger winch to pick and hold the tree the smaller winch to pull and guide it on. Win win
I was thinking just a cumalong (handpuller) winch would do the trick
Nice to see the last piece of the "trailer" puzzle come together flawlessly!
Never ceases to amaze me. Brave workers without eye protection.
Your videos are always so intensely interesting, and yet you seem so offhand and casual about a 4-ton log. Very enjoyable.
the climbing skills and use of tools by the woodsman was a sight to behold. great job! glad they called matt to haul and recycle a magnificent tree. trailer did what it was built for and has battle scars as evidence
That tree was huge, and your trailer handled it magnificently. There is nothing like peace of mind hauling a huge load and doing it with ease.
Congratulations on the new trailer. It's so amazing what you can do with ease when you have the right equipment. I had to laugh when I saw your pinned comment about the paint. I was thinking the same thing.
Beautiful big log, some cracking slabs to come out of it in the future. The trailer worked excellent, the second winch earned its pay too. Great job.
That trailer is AWESOME, great design, man. I love that you have a block for redirecting the winch line. Everything looks beefy. And great truck to pull it with too. And your s800tx, that's a nice unit to have around the yard. All around, awesome set up 👊🏿
Your buddy Brandon though.. yikes. That boy needs to invest in a helmet and some chainsaw pants. Man that looked exhausting. That's a really easy climbing tree that he made look difficult. Dude must have massive upper arms/shoulders, my upper arms and shoulders were sore just watching him do all that power-polesawing!
I’m a huge fan of wedges when dropping the trunk. Bar and chain pinch sucks. Face shield is also really helpful.
Not wanting to be that guy, but I was surprised by the lack of PPE while wielding the chainsaw. Aren't a faceshield and chaps usually considered essential for this type of work?
Leland Holton 😀😀👍👍
Really great to see your hard work pay off with the tools you’ve built being able to do exactly what they were meant to do. Congrats again. Well earned.
Also great that this type of log isn’t going to waste.
thank you!
Kudos to the drone pilot. Well done. Very nice trailer and operation. Thank you for sharing, it was a pleasure to watch.
I literally saw a grown up (60 years ago) saw off the branch he was standing on...seriously!
Was his name Wile E?
A real “grown up”?!?!?!? REALLY?!?!
Brian Kennedy I was about 10 at the time...saw it with my own eyes...my Dad recounted that anecdote for years.
@@robinmyman yeah cartoons were great back then!
Gotta love a 50-70cc class saw with a sharp chain, throwing chips like hash browns. The arborist was amazing to watch, that takes a LOT of upper body strength.
The trailer worked really well. I swear I saw the bars bending a little on the hoop when working the biggest beast of a piece.
one of the best trailer i have ever seen ...amazing
pulling the first log on your trailor, it seems much larger. Also it looked like a star on the front end. So glad you r happy with your new trailer. A very entertaining n informative video on tree removal. Can't wait to see what you find with the slabs you cut. Thanks as always for sharing. Stay safe.
Really impressed your mini skid was able to move that 2nd log. I’m saving my pennies for one to move logs around my mill as well. I’m about your age and I already feel like I’m getting too old for manual labor!
One man wrecking crew
i got a small bobcat with tracks for my milling needs and i cant reccomend one enough.
Damn Matt that is a nice trailer. I am so envious of you playing with those logs.
Love your lighthearted attitude!
Matt it must feel good to know you have a very well built trailer too lift and transport those large sections of tree trunks home. All the best !🇨🇦🇺🇸
Brilliant job, congratulations to all concerned
Does not appear to be a licensed tree removal service but it appears that he's done this before. I am more accustomed to seeing a large bucket truck with several helpers and lots of fall control ropes
Got to love the sand box bucket anchor sealant holder
What an EXCELLENT build! Man, for that job, that is a DREAM trailer! That looks like a blast to use! Great job!
Despite all the "Monday Morning Quarterbacks, I was impressed. Spectacular job on the trailer, my man! 🤠
Obviously not in the tree care industry. Safety is important...
Never ceases to amaze me how much mass is there once a “big old tree” starts to be cut up
Yup. Takes time.
And 95% comes from thin air!
this is so amazingly cool. I love your videos. They are more entertaining than anything on the TV. I must have gotten old if this is what excites me...
Oh dose that bring back memories when I worked in the trees in the early 70th.
WOW, great video. That guy taking down that tree by himself did a good job. Good first log to test the trailer.
Thanks!
Beautiful trailer. It has made an impossible or at least difficult job into a one man job. It must feel great when your planning works that well.
Amazing use of the drone - and with a fair wind blowing!
Wow Matt that was very impressive, you have showed much self confidence and craftsmanship, Congratulations your new trailer built came out very impressive, your design is very impressive. 👏👏👏👏👏🥂
Matt my grandfather in Europe would often say you need to get the 1st scratch on a new car good job definitely a very talented guy at the chain saw too
The dude running the saw is a hack. No ppe not even chaps. Using a ladder and a rock climbing harness instead of a proper rope access or tree saddle. poor felling technique, you can tell because theres no hinge wood on the stump. A dull saw, you can tell because the saws are throwing dust instead of ribbons. Finally one seriously messed up lawn for the home owner. If you ever need tree work done and a dude shows up like this, get a new tree guy.
Man You guys got some terrific footage of this takedown. Seriously the guys were really up there. What a tree!
thanks Matt!
That Log looks AWESOME on that trailer,,,,, GREAT BUILD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Watching new trailer while you drive, it really does work great! ! !
The guy who cut it down shows lots of ambition. It would be cool if an Arborist would show him how to do it more safely with the proper gear and methods.
What did he do wrong other than no hard hat?
I remember my 661's first tank 🤣🤣
Your a goat man best vids should do a collab some day
@@teomedina1685
I remember my fist tank through my 660. The chips would sting my legs! Just sold it 2 weeks ago. I’m too old to move big wood around. Still have my290 and my 200t.
Is the blue/black color in the trunk metal?
Nice trailer!!! Never seen a skid loader like that ,I like it something sma and nimble
The trailer works really well. Nice job.
This tree was truly blessed.
That’s some really nice content. The tree feller clearly didn’t look like he was at his first rodeo LOL Your engineering / get-it-done solopreneur skills are top shelf 😂😂👍👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thanks!!
Most ex rodeo riders limp and have crook shoulders etc but
Looking forward to the slabbing video. Brandon is a machine!
Some of those limbs were as big as trees! Trailer performance A++! 🔧😊👍
Those are happy scratches of a job well done! Congrats!
Dude has balls!
Dude has no brains
I thought the same thing loll... everyone else is hating
Wow, the skill of that tree surgeon was amazing. Not to mention, I've ran a pole saw from the ground and it was exhausting. He must have the physical conditioning of an Olympic athlete..............
His stamina is ridiculous
@@mcremona One can only imagine!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You should be proud that little red trailer did a great job!
That's some awesome aerial shots with the drone. Phenomenal video editing.... Makes me want to climb tree and start chewing limbs off... Awesome work.. .Thanks for posting.
First things first, the guy who dismantled the tree did what he was supposed to do, dismantle it. However the way in which he did it makes me fear that one day he will have an accident or worse. First of all PPE: no helmet, no visor, no safety goggles, no gloves, no saw pants. He survived this job but he should invest in some safety gear if he wants to stay alive. Second, technique: lots of dangerous saw cuts and lots of dangerous positioning of himself in relation to the sawing action. Again, during this job nothing happened but you can't keep challenging your luck. There are lots of resources on proper chainsaw handling. His climbing, keeping his line slack instead of tight, improper anchoring. Just lots of little things that could mean life or death in case of an accident.
Absolutely a comment that those involved with this video should acknowledge. While the climber is very skilled, he puts himself and other at risk with bad habits.
Amazing timbering skill. Exceptional videography. Even entertaining ads:)
Thanks Gil!
Damn good job, made it look easy, the telescopic saw looked like a big help!
Congrats Matt! What a adventure
Safety Sally's. Lol.
When I see a saw and a ladder, I stop and watch.
"I stop and watch." Hold my beer!
"There are old Arborists and there are bold Arborists but there are no old bold Arborists" Show the tree guy the video. see what he thinks! He and a couple of the ground guys had me guessing!
Bnnnnnh, bahasa bnnnnnh hg;;! Jhvb
yup some very bad moves went on in this video. I know of at least 4 arborists who died and I'm not even in the business.
This guy’s work practices are so unsafe.
Wow, before drones this kind of footage would have been incredibly difficult if not impossible to take. So cool to see this kind of work from above!
This trailer is amazing. Well done.
sees lader and pole saw with in 3 mins of the start, scrolls to coments for the arborist.
same! I knew there would be a lively unpacking. Always great to see the knowledge ones speak up! SOO Sketchy with a pole saw, up on ropes in a TREE? What was puffing?
Nothing wrong with that big Ol’ tree at all.
Finally got my 16ft pole saw right before our first snow. Looking forward to using it alot this coming season. It should save alot of climbing and moving/repositioning the lift or bucket truck.
Some of the flame structures that will show up where the cuts are going right across the grain, (as in quarter sawn) will be spectacular! I really enjoyed cutting and polishing white oak. Very hard and splintery for cabinetry work but worth it!
Ol boy that was cutting that tree up, he’s pretty impressive.
Was that just one guy?
Tree cutting guy is a tree cutting machine!
yes, he had it down in about 6 hours.
that was a lot of tree for one day
If he don’t put a hard hat on and quit working off ladders his tree cutting will be short lived
I was watching the build and after the paint, I said that baby is going to pull smooth. Sure enough. Great job enjoy.
Thanks!
That trailer behaved well..very well....well done ..well deserved!😊
An industrious climber... but with his work practices he will almost certainly get injured.
@Jackie Meintjes words can save a life. This man needs to hear that his methods are incredibly dangerous. He's probably doing it out of ignorance, thinking that it's completely fine. But he needs to learn there are better ways. That knowledge could save his life. Silence won't.
@@ArsonistArborist just cuz he does it differently then you doesn't mean he's doing it wrong.
@@heathploski1819 yes it does, and your along time dead
@@heathploski1819 The climber in this video is beyond unsafe. He's absolutely doing a ton of things wrong. Very wrong.
@@ArsonistArborist I highly doubt he was doing it out of ignorance, it looked effortless, which means he's a real pro.
Pole saw, ladders, tear cuts. Think you might get more comments on this then the piece of timber itself
Tear cuts dont matter on a removal. What does matter is one handed chainsaw use, no helmet, unsecured equipment aloft, people in the drop zone with no helmet or other protective gear, dropping limbs near power lines with bystanders that have no PPE and are too close, operating a saw while tied in only once, frequently climbing high above his tie in point, no chainsaw leg protection, and a half dozen other OSHA and industry standards violations. This guy is going to kill or maim himself or someone else some day if he keeps working this way.
@@umaikakudo You don't need them for the health of the tree, but doing it can ensure a clean break on a limb being removed. Seems that logically it'll be more likely to "snap" and fall predictably, rather than tear down the bark and whip around where you weren't expecting it to.
@@umaikakudo yeah, a lot of people are complaining about no undercuts. Undercuts have there place, but definitely are no always necessary. When he's on the ladder (which he shouldn't be in the first place!) THEN he definitely should have been undercutting. You don't want that limb coming back at the ladder. But when you're actually climbing, no ladder, then who cares if the limb flies back at the truck. Let her fly
@@umaikakudo top handle saws are made to be used one handed. As long as you’re not in the kickback zone, no big deal.
well done guys !exellent job, competent people you are a treat to watch . Did some of this 50 years back, with folks like you round America is STILL great!& yes with that internal crack its good time to take this old lady DOWN good work from NZ
Glad everyone is ok ! ! ! Nice trailer
That tree remover guy had some SERIOUS skill!!!
People always ask me why I over-engineer things. I simply respond, “peace of mind.”
As my father used to say, "Anything worth doing is worth overdoing!"
wise father@@whataguy7032
I didn't think the lifting arm / arch was over engineered, I'm surprised it didn't bend.

I am glad that you have your trailer done and now in use. You did a great job filming this video. The trailer rides great. Good job.
Yep, there’s guys out there doing this kind of thing, and I mean this with full respect: not bad for a young man. Now, what he needs is a large area/yard to work in. I’m sure he’ll finally lay down his tools when he’s in his much later years. Much love and respect, my man.
That guy cutting the tree down, was truly amazing, using the chainsaw with one hand, takes a lot of strength, this guy is a crazy kind of skilled worker..
Dave Smith and only broke 4 safety laws that I saw.
I’m surprised so little PPE he seems to be semi professional.
You adapted and designed old trailer, developed your skill set a long the way. So that designing this new trailer worked so well. Great job Matt. Your friend knows how to take them down.
thanks Keith!
Seen the video pop up on recommend and seen it when it was released, i noticed 1 year ago, and it is crazy because it seemed like just a few months ago the trailer was completed. Time freaking flies, and not only that its been a year, in a new house got warehouse and all kinds of stuff going on.
hey send up that power pruner real quick I got a oak limb over my head
Great "how not to" video for aspiring arborists. Not just the lack of PPE but just the way he takes down limbs, nearly knocks himself out several times, and how he would have gotten down from there with that waist strap idk. Ludicrous!
Yup...more undercuts would've helped. Stick-saw in the upper crown ? Well...that's just odd. Ladder goes away soon as the climber gets off of it. And dude, you really should get your climbing line out of the drop zone; especially when you're felling big logs. One heavy long catches that line wrong while falling...well you don't need that to happen. Totally unorthodox and probably charged his client one third the industry standard. Glad to see he completed the job safely. BTW: That is one awesome trailer built with pure innovation Matt.
One, that’s why he has a ground crew. Two that’s why he has a ground crew. Three that’s why you don’t work for him.
Those little Stihl Chainsaws are friggin work beavers
