  • Today, I am bringing you with me on my budgeting journey. We will be going over the paycheck that I received on July 1, 2019. I am a paycheck budgeter, which means I create a paycheck every time I get paid.
Before, I got paid on the 5th and the 20th, but now that I am self-employed full-time, I get a paycheck once a month, on the first day of every month.
In this video, I walk you through every step of my budget and give you the details into what it looks like to use a successful realistic budget is someone's every-day life.
I have been sharing my real budget for over a year on Instagram, but only recently started sharing my budget on UA-cam. By sharing my actual budget, I hope to show you the process and steps behind paycheck budgeting. I also hope it helps you understand the psychological decisions behind money management.

Miko, I am only om my "second paycheck" into my new budget and already I was able to pay an extra $225 towards debt! Budgeting by paycheck, using the calendar and highlighter method has made ALL the difference! All my money now has a purpose and a place to go. I can't wait to see my progress and continue my journey, many thanks to you!!!

For many people desperately wanting to get out of debt, you're a prime example of HOW to budget and how to stick with it! Setting money aside specifically for fun and personal care are great rewards as you journey on. I like the fact that you didn't go nuts over-spending or made exceptions month after month when you were still in debt. You're one of the few UA-camrs that sets a No Spend goal BEFORE the month begins and I think that can be a great game changer. I always look forward to watching your videos because I know you're making great strides with your financial goals! Go Miko! Go Miko!

This is the most in-depth budgeting video I've ever seen, really well organized and breaks everything down step-by-step. I've been working to tighten up my finances and this is so helpful! Usually they just say, "create a budget" and then move on to the next thing. Thank you for posting!

You can also make these spreadsheets on word or excel- there are templates for it. Just letting people know so you don’t feel like you can’t budget for a budget journal to fix your current budget situation.

Lol I'm so glad you said this. I love this channel but honestly that book is a little pricey to start budgeting. I've been finding A LOT of free printables to put together a budget binder.

Breayonna Mckinnon it is and I get that it’s a good sales move to plug in your own product with a tutorial on how to budget but if you really want to help people save- she should also give alternatives like- get some white envelopes and write “sinking funds” on it.

@@IHeArTrOcK20 exactly! I made my own envelopes. I found some prints online that I really liked and printed them out, cut them out using a template I found for FREE and "laminated" them using packing tape lol. I found the inspiration for that on Do It On A Dime youtube, I wish I could link a picture! They honestly came out so cute.

I am an avid planner/budget planner/ meal planner, and I thought I’d recommend Walmart Grocery Pickup! I don’t pull out cash for groceries anymore, because I do it all via the Walmart Grocery App😍 I am a mother of two young kids- when I took them to the grocery store, not only was it a hassle, they (and my husband) loved to throw so many extras into the cart that were not on my list. So by using Walmart’s grocery pickup, I order it all on the app- I know exactly how much I have to spend per week, I see how much I’m spending before I check out, and I get exactly what I need😃 It’s saved us so much money, and I don’t have to pray I’m under budget when I check out anymore😂 Sometimes they are out of some of the items or they’ll exchange for similar items, but overall it works amazingly!😍

Cash envelope sounds like a great idea, especially for those who have trouble sticking to their goals. For me, I have a separate goals under my bank account so I’m earning the interest while keeping/tracking my goals. Also, credit cards are great for those with self control. Many cashback and discounts for different deals.

I actually do a combo of a monthly budget and a "by paycheck". I make my monthly budget and then I assign them to come out a specific paycheck. Then I revisit each week (both my husband and I get paid weekly at the moment) because we all know crap happens and if you don't make allowances for that you get in trouble.

I think it's better to not look at brands at all! I can't tell you how many times the store brand has been MORE expensive! Just this week I went to walmart and the Libby brand veggies were 10 cents cheaper then the walmart brand! I am NOT brand loyal. If the generic brand is cheaper that's what I get if it's not then I don't.

For the sinking funds, won't it make more sense to put the cash into several high yield savings accounts so you can earn some interest on that money while you save up for the event?

Hi! Do you recommend to have online bills on auto draft or do you prefer to pay them manually? I know some online payments offer discounts if you set them on autopay. Thanks! This was a great video. I’m on a single income and really looking to up my budgeting game!

Hi Miko, is there any reason, besides your love for designing, that you change your cash envelopes each month? I ask because I’ll rather save money keeping the same cash envelopes until I can’t usen no more. Thanks a lot for your response ;) I appreciate you and what you do! Thank you !

I liked your sunflower cash envelopes . They are so nice and would like to purchase some in September 2019. I could not find your filofax video in the description box. Which one is it? I would also like to purchase one like you have in black . I would like to start my sinking fund system in September 2019. Thank you
