I'll join a lawsuit against Autel for not disclosing the tethering necessity when I purchased the programmers. I'm waiting to see if someone launches a class action lawsuit. I don't want to hurt American Key Supply (where I purchased my Autel stuff from), but I work in a lot of rural areas that don't have wifi or cell reception. Autel is making a big mistake with this. They should have made it voluntary, or come up with another way to verify security. Stupid move on Autel's part.
Well, this news will help Xtool and others get more customers than Autel. Somewhere you have no internet in areas outside the country what you gonna do refuse the job and other your competitors will take it in a plink eye. We already paid a lot of money up-to-date. I could buy other new scanners that come with 2 years of update for same the price autel's update. 😢
Hey Jereth, Do you know when this update was released. (Release date or service number) I'll watch for it and maybe I can just avoid downloading that service pack indefinitely. (or all updates from this day on). I just bought a new IM608 pro package last November, but just registered it now on February 3rd after my subscription on the 508 expired and I lost server access. I installed all the system updates then, when I registered it. I still need to do some 32 vehicle manufacture updates, sometime soon though. Do you or does anybody know if maybe I can just de-select that specific system update and maintain login with the existing software already installed on this machine , or will access be denied to log into Autel's servers without this update at some point. Hope that's not where they are going with this.. This means, Even my older units like both of my 508s, will be forever LOCKED OUT. even if I do choose to purchase the total care package in the future for these units . Thanks for the heads up on this, and everything you post. Your knowledge and content are unmatched...
It’s like dodge/Chrysler customers also, can’t get a pin code from dealership here in Alabama even though they bought the vehicle there… They tell the customers Locksmiths can’t do it, and make them tow the vehicle in just to make the money… BS!
I remember 15 years ago dealing with advanced diagnostics programmers needing in / out codes for some vehicles. I assumed this was a requirement by the vehicle manufacturer and when I found out it was a hurdle introduced by advanced diagnostics to defend against use of their software by clone machines it was upsetting.
It’s due to the rising car theft and lot of ppl bin using to tool for illegal stuff it’s suck but it to protect the locksmith business.I hate depending on WiFi .
They also started removing programming , and the new button is ( expert ) which someone logs on to your autel and programs a module for you $220 , it was free to do
This has crippled my auto work. The area I work in has horrendous cellular coverage which makes internet access a nightmare on site with customers. I am actively looking for a better solution if anyone has any opinions.
We’ll have to see we’re this goes. Good points but they said it was a different software version release accidentally. I may have to get a different machine. The Chinese are responsible for the illegal activity. Autel is in china? I like the f o I paid for my watch.

Get the auto pro pad. Keep in mind there are vehicles that require internet to program keys. Can’t get around that at times
