- 2004 Honda Goldwing GL1800 with a custom built, straight pipe exhaust system. Stock headers and O2's are all that is left that is original. From the headers, each bank goes into a 1 3/4" pipe then into a 2" pipe where the exhaust exits. The left side includes a bump stop for the center stand. The pipes include no baffling, packing, resonators or catalytic converters, they are "straight pipes". Front heat shields around headers can easily be reinstalled, but I choose not for looks, weight and most importantly foot clearance for shifter and brake.
Idle: 75db
Cruise(2,850rpm): 87db
Redline: 112db

Personally don't like the low end sound but I think it's pretty cool sound all around
I wonder if a set of 3"+ exhaust tips would sounds like. I would love to hear this under load full throttle ripping through the gears as well
I bought my GL 1800 to get away from all the noise. But hey if this is what you want enjoy it.

After you cracked the throttle and hit 112 db, I thought the oh boy, this is going to be terrible, but...cruising at highway speeds and light acceleration...it wasn't too bad. Better than I expected if you ride with restraint...and if you feel the need for speed, let that baby roar!

I was told you couldn't do that to the goldwing because it need back Pressure or it will damage the engine
Why would it do that?
The engine management computer will probably need recalculating to correct the fuel mixture,otherwise it may run too rich like my Indian Scout did when I reduced the back pressure by changing to straight through Hot Dogs. If not corrected it probably will wash the cylinder bores and cause rapid ring and cylinder wear....
Engines *do not* need exhaust backpressure they need exhaust air velocity, and there's a point in increasing pipe diameter size where the lost velocity outweighs gains from reducing backpressure. And yes the ECU is also tuned for the exhaust the vehicle came with, and most cars and big motos like the GW are tuned to make optimal power at mid-revs for comfortable streetability. Upsizing exhaust without a corresponding tune tends to move optimal power towards high revs while hurting low to mid performance, while tunes tend to restore *most* of the low-mid while keeping optimal power RPM higher than stock. Also helps to modify the intake correspondingly too. I haven't ridden a GW but I assume they're so spoilt for power, this is all practically moot anyway...

I met a guy that put a set of tractor muffler on Valkyrie that he bought from Tractor supply. It really sounded great and wasn’t real loud, just a good throaty tone

Knees hurt after 400 miles. This wood chair bike has a fatal flaw, thus why it is gone now. Harleys are just as quiet as Goldwings by the way.

A larger size might "look" better but will certainly hurt performance and sound gargled. Large pipes are an illusion, not practical.

Nope. These bikes have mapped a/f ratios regulated real time by the O2 sensors. It self regulates to factory mapped a/f ratios.
Do you still have the Cadillac converter on it
In this video, nope. Just stock headers and a custom made dual straight pipes.
