I found that the trunk lamp assembly can be removed just like the cabin light. Pop out the whole fixture with a screwdriver. No need to remove the trunk trim panel. Like the license plate lamp, there is not much play, though. Nice video.
Quick tip: put the time stamps in the description. We can skip to them immediately if needed :) Great video man. Good job speaking clearly too, i know a lot of people struggle on camera including myself lol. Keep killin it
Bro....you don't need to remove the trunk lining! Just the case the same was as you do the dome light in the cabin. Also have you upgraded the rear/brake lights to LED yet? If so any difference?
That’s a great idea. It’s part of my front and rear dashcam setup, the first thing I did to this car. Would be a good idea to go back and film the process for others to see!
How did you get the rear daytime running lights on with the rear lights. I have the kit turns on the fronts but ive never seen the rears. Wouldn't you want them red on the back if they were going to fire like this?
The reverse light you put in the lower fixture are depicted on the website to be for the upper reverse light in the brake and turn signal housing. Can it be used for both? Thanks!
Yeah it's interesting how the website shows that. There is no upper reverse light on the NDs, at least in the US market. The upper lights are just rear, brake, and turn signals
Looking to install the reverse/fog light kit and having hard time finding instructions. Do you have to remove the taillights to gain access to the taillight red plug wire? I have a 2016 MX5 ND and just starting to upgrade the lights. Thanks for any help and just curious what # you have on the 100th anniversary car...thanks, Kevin
You do have to remove the taillights to change the rear turn signal, but you should be able to access the full wiring harness through the trunk. Remove the carpeting to reveal it. You said reverse/fog lights. Are they rear fog lights? I ask because we do not have those here in the US. And my car is #2673/3000, 30th Anniversary Edition
@@DriveMX5 Well not really fog lights, they are red and supposed to be actually an addition to the rear parking lights. I also am doing the 50% brightness DLR harness on the fangs along with the sequential side smoked signal LED lights. I was thinking of changing the parking markers, but like the fact that they are reflectors at night when not on so if parked an oncoming car would see it. Thank you for quick response and I do enjoy your videos for helping my DIY projects on the ND.
Thank you! I did have to put it in reverse, but I hit the start button twice without touching the clutch to turn the ignition, but not the engine, on. This allows the reverse lights to come on while the car is just sitting there
I did have it in reverse. Just turn the ignition on without starting the engine (foot off the clutch (brake if car is automatic) and press the start button twice). This turns the ignition on without turning over the engine, similar to keyed ignitions where you rotate it to IGN ON without starting the engine
Yes, it’s built into the trunk latch on the body of the car. When the trunk closes, the switch gets moved into the open position so the light automatically goes off. If you remove the flat plastic panel at the back of the trunk, you’ll have access to it.
For the reverse light? It’s the same fitting as on the passenger side, but you might have to twist the opposite direction to get it loose, I honestly don’t remember. But it’s no different than the fitting on the other side
Thanks for both videos on the complete LED upgrade. Did you by chance shop this against Flyin Miata's LED kit? I know not all LEDs are created equal and of course want to avoid error codes or hyper flash. Thanks again.
@@DriveMX5 Update: I installed everything last night, took awhile - front and rear turn, DRL harness, smoked side turn, smoked corner, reverse, license plate, trunk and dome lights. I'm very pleased with Lasfit and their service. Had a little ordering confusion but they responded immediately and resolved. Many thanks to them and I recommend confidently to others. Thanks Ian for sharing all your projects which helps me always know the water temperature before getting in 😉
Thanks for all the tips! I just picked up a 21 GT RF and am in Dr Phillips. Would love to connect for a cruise or something - I have only 1 other car buddy who picked up an NB 6spd. Let me know if there are any MX5 meet ups. :)
Every last Monday of the month is Orlando Roadster’s meetup at Ace Cafe. Also there is a Facebook group called Florida Miata Cruise Club, that might be what you’re looking for. I’ll actually be moving up to Tennessee in 2 weeks. Excited to drive those mountain roads more frequently!
$72 for a few bulbs is nuts. These bulbs are not that important that I would want to drop 100 large. ROI is very suspect here. Does it look better? Yep. Is it worth the money, time, and effort, Nah! Nice video

I just order the whole package. It’s been on my list and you truly convinced with once I saw the final product

Bro....you don't need to remove the trunk lining! Just the case the same was as you do the dome light in the cabin. Also have you upgraded the rear/brake lights to LED yet? If so any difference?
That makes sense! No, because the rear/brake lights are LED from the factory. Only ones left to upgrade are the corner lights on the fenders
@@DriveMX5 ah ok cool! Cheers 👍🏻
I notice you have a camera above your license plate, you should do a video about installing that.

Looks good! Ordered some of these from Lasfit based on your video.
Awesome! I hope you enjoy them!
Are these lights blue or is it just through the camera? I am thinking about pulling the trigger on the full set, but they look quite blue.
I think it’s just the camera. They look more cool white in person. If I had to guess around 6000-6500k
Loco!!! si la luz del maletero se quita igual que la del conductor, lo haces complicado, pocos tutoriales has visto tú!!!!
How did you get the rear daytime running lights on with the rear lights. I have the kit turns on the fronts but ive never seen the rears. Wouldn't you want them red on the back if they were going to fire like this?
Are you referring to the white lights on the lower corners of the bumper? Those are the reverse lights
The reverse light you put in the lower fixture are depicted on the website to be for the upper reverse light in the brake and turn signal housing. Can it be used for both? Thanks!
Yeah it's interesting how the website shows that. There is no upper reverse light on the NDs, at least in the US market. The upper lights are just rear, brake, and turn signals
for the trunk i connect 4 mini led stripes, the position of the original one make it useless.
That's a great idea! Yeah, once you have stuff piled up, it kinda blocks out the trunk light
Cool! The reverse bulbs are T20? do u have the size of the festoon lights too? Thx!
I think the stock size is 30mm. Lasfit had 31mm which I am using now and it works fine.
The licence plate light housing in the 2022 cars looks different to that in the video. There are no tabs on the sides to easily pry off 🧐
I was not aware of that, thank you for mentioning this!
Did the led reverse lights white out the back up camera? Great vid!
Thank you! And no, they actually help at night since they are brighter and more white, the picture looks brighter and clearer in the dark

Do you have a LED # for the Lasfit bulb for the License Plate?
Can’t find it on their website.
Thank you!
Yeah, they’re the L-T10 bulbs. Check the link in the description, it takes you directly to all the bulbs they offer for these cars!

How did you turn on the reverse lights without putting the car in reverse gear though ?
Thank you! I did have to put it in reverse, but I hit the start button twice without touching the clutch to turn the ignition, but not the engine, on. This allows the reverse lights to come on while the car is just sitting there
How did you have all the leds (like the reverse light) on without having it in reverse? I want to replace mine too.

This turns the ignition on without turning over the engine, similar to keyed ignitions where you rotate it to IGN ON without starting the engine

Haha no I was just excited to go ahead and throw them on. I should've thought about this before filming!
Does the trunk light have lid-closed switch to turn the trunk light off? If so, where is it? Thanks, Tom KC3QAC
Yes, it’s built into the trunk latch on the body of the car. When the trunk closes, the switch gets moved into the open position so the light automatically goes off. If you remove the flat plastic panel at the back of the trunk, you’ll have access to it.

My ND3 license light plate doesn’t even go away all the down like yours, theres no space for me to hold the housing down
Interesting, the ND3 may have a different license plate light housing than the years before it. I haven't worked on one personally.
