- Come join us for a rare date as we we visit the New York Café in Budapest, Hungary for dessert as we sample cheesecake, champagne sorbet and a local beer. What initially comes to mind about the New York Cafe is just how wonderfully charming it is. When we think of some of the places around the world where we've had afternoon tea this ranks highly with the likes of the Peninsula hotel in Hong Kong or Cafe Tortoni in Buenos Aires, Argentina. This ornate cafe/restaurant has been operational since 1894 and you'll be charmed by its chandeliers, frescoes and live music while you have coffee, cake, tea and/or Hungarian cuisine.

Best cafe in Europe? New York Café for dessert in Budapest, Hungary Travel Food Video Transcript:
Hello there! It is a Tuesday afternoon here in Budapest and Sam and I have decided to go on a fancy date. On a fancy date and why not? It is a beautiful day outside. It is! And we're just having a really lovely day so let's go out for a date. Let's go get some nice dessert or something. Dessert yes. So we are going to a place called New York Cafe and this coffeehouse has been voted one of the most beautiful in the whole world. It looks really luxurious online. So I'm really excited to get there.
Yeah, it is a real institution and what it dates back to the late 1800s. Yeah, it is old. It is very old so it should have some nice charm and yeah let's have a nice date.
Quick update. We did not make a reservation. You probably should be we are next in line because it is the middle of the afternoon. Fingers crossed.
So many choices. How will he ever decide? Sweet, savory what should he choose?
Probably going with the sweet.
Okay, so Sam has not seen any photos of this place before coming here. So first impressions?
Wow, this place is so much fancier than I expected. Like this is up there with some of the fanciest kinds of cafes we've visited in the world.
And like afternoon tea we've done a few of those. Yeah, it kind of reminds me a little bit of the Peninsula Hotel in Hong Kong and it also reminds me of Cafe Tortoni in Buenos Aires.
Yeah, so I ordered a sorbet and this is strawberry sorbet and champagne sorbet with real chunks of strawberry. And some mint leaves on top and.
So I probably went for the most bizarre drink and food pairing that you could possibly have at a fancy cafe.
I'm going for a beer and cheesecake. Borsodi. Yeah, Borsodi which is a local beer and this looks like a classic kind of New York style cheesecake and I think that is a passion fruit sauce. Apricot. Oh, apricot.
Price point time. That came to 19 Euros total.
We did order some of the cheaper options on the menu like the desserts were the cheapest food items that you could order on the menu and beer was literally the cheapest drink so we did get the beer but some of the other menu items that I noticed that you could get were there were two different kinds of tea sets.
One was 40 Euros the other one was 60. I also noticed that they had a New York burger which was 14 Euros. And they had other things. They had salads. So they have a pretty extensive menu. You could even get goulash as a soup.
And so yeah if you come here there is a lot of different choices. You can come for mains, you can come for dessert and coffee like we did or you can get a great big tea set if you're willing to splurge.
So yeah, highly recommend this place. The atmosphere was really cool and this was just yeah this was a wonderful date I have to say.
So we hope you enjoyed that little food video but it was just short and sweet to kind of show you how beautiful that cafe is. It was more impressive I think than either of us were expecting. Yes, absolutely. So yeah, successful date and now I think it is siesta time.

The combination of cheesecake and beer has changed my way to see the world
Hahaha! Oh man, a hidden gem. What a combo on a hot day though. Ah I'm too hot - take a big swig of beer. Ah, I'm hungry and craving something sweet - Mmmmm...cheesecake ;)
Samuel and Audrey - Travel and Food Videos lol
Just saw your video and I really enjoyed it. I’m an American living near Brno, Czech Republic, and I have also visited this cafe. I was there in December 2017. I don’t remember what I had, but the atmosphere was amazing. As it was close to Christmas, I made a reservation, and I’m glad I did because they were turning people away who didn’t have one, and the place was packed. Your video was a nice trip down memory lane. Thanks
This is attached to the Boscolo Hotel, where I like to stay in Budapest. It's a great video, but you have to see this place because pictures hardly do it justice! Budapest is a stunningly beautiful and vibrant city!
That decor was just stunning. Thanks for capturing that for us.
Thank you Bill! It was a wonderful surprise for us :)
What a gorgeous cafe! The cheesecake with apricot looked really interesting!
Thank you! It sure was yummy with the apricot...haha
Hey kids, as always, you two put out consistently excellent videos, going to places and showing the culture, places of interests, and cuisine. Desserts and beer look delicious on a late spring day. I wish you two the best on your future travels.
Thank you very much! We absolutely loved this place :)
Beautiful café. I'd love it there, the atmosphere, music. That strawberry champagne sorbet looks delightful. Always enjoy your videos.
Thank you! I hope you can visit someday :)
It's really nice of you to make a serie like this. :) I'm glad, that you feel good in Budapest, thanks for showing me this café, next time when I'm in the capital city, I'll visit it. I just can't miss out that authentic atmosphere and design, it's like a real castle.
Thank you! That is awesome to hear and we do highly recommend visiting this cafe. It is not cheap but well worth it for the experience.
First time viewer and subscriber of your video's...Looking forward to watching more of your video's and your past video's....Thank you for making your video's. ...
Thank you very much! Welcome :)
Yes, New York Cafe is impressive! 🤩
awsome video! love you guys!
Thank you very much! :)
That's Europe, all real, nothing fake. In such a Café the Café is the main thing, and not the money. That's the difference in my opinion to northern America. So nice to see you discover that, and the real food in all the countries. I wish I will also be at that Café in any time. It is so great as Budapest is a city not bombed in world war 2. All the nice culture more than 100 years is still conserved.
We really appreciate the food, culture and architecture in Europe. You don't find this level of attention to detail in many other parts of the world.
am, budapest got fairly smashed up during ww2 (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Budapest) and again in 1956, but it makes it all the more fascinating when you visit as it still has alot of the scars and bullet holes in the buildings
this Café is just a little fake ;-) Build at Historicism Time in a Baroque Style. Just 200-300 years between.
Budapest grows after Hungarian Revolution of 1848 against the Austrian Habsburger. A lot of the Buildings in Budapest was build between 1870-1910 but in a old glamour Baroque Style, thats the reason why Budapest looks very old and glamour.
Same idea have King Ludwig II. with the Castle Neuschwanstein, build at the same period. He build a old glamour looking Castle but with modern technology inside like electricity, heater, warm and cold water pipe system, food elevators and more.
Also the construction was modern as this time. They use steam cranes and also new building materials.
This all called Eclecticism and Baroque Revival architecture or Neo-Baroque. It was typical for the Historicism Time.
All the downtowns in Central Europe were built in the same period, 1870-1914 ww1 begun. Berlin-Prague-Vienna-Budapest-Bratislava except Berlin was almost bombed to the ground in 1945 but partly rebuilt, Budapest also was heavily damaged in 1944 but almost completely repaired/1956 caused minor damages like those bullet holes/. The reason for that golden age is that nationalistic revolutions and retaliations ended in a compromise and a peaceful period begun in the Austro-Hungarian empire /including today's Czechia, Slovakia, Austria, Hungary, partly Croatia and Serbia, northern Romania/transylvania/ and a chunk of Ukraine. So public buildings, town halls and railway stations look alike in these countries. And the two always rivaling top capitals of the empire were Vienna and Budapest.
The longest and/or most devastating sieges/attacks on cities in WWII were the following: Stalingrad, Leningrad, Budapest, Warsaw, Dresden and Berlin. Budapest was also ruined in WWII, just like the others in this list.
Excellent. New York Café in Budapest looks great. I will definitely come. Thanks
Thanks! Highly recommend it :)
I have been watching your vlogs since last year, I really love them

Thank you! We really enjoyed going there :)
Oooh that place looks posh lol. That cheesecake would taste fantastic, it certainly looks it 😍
Thank you! It certainly was posh.
Great spot! You should try the Bookshop cafe on Andrassy Ut not far from the Oktogon. It is amazing! Also the McDonalds on Teresa Krt is pretty spectacular as well (the building rather than the food!).
Thank you! Awesome! Totally appreciate the suggestions :)
Hello my lovely travelers. Your biggest fan here again... and just burst into tears... cause I am from Hungary...
(living in spain...)
The beer Borsodi comes from a county called Borsod. And the i at the end makes in Hungarian to express that it is from Borsod.
Yeah same goes for people from Budapest they are Budapesti people :)
(I am from the south of Hungary where the best vines are from. Home town: Pécs , worth visit the best vines in the area from Villány - yes those are the Villányi vines) (Many world champion vines are from Villány! )
I just Shit my pants seeing you in Budapest. So happy and confused....
Cheers,
MolekulaTV aka Maxi
Ah, thank you very much! We are very happy to be visiting Hungary for the first time. Our next video will feature some great wine from Villányi. We also really enjoyed Egri Bikaver. Ah, we ate and drank very well in Budapest I must say :)
Samuel and Audrey - Travel and Food Videos oh visit Eger
Welcome to Hungary! :) Check out Kazinczy street for some street food. I recommend trying out somewhere in Budapest the traditional Lángos (deep-fried dough with sour cream and cheese, etc.), Gundel pancake, and Kürtöskalács (chimney cake) as well! :)
Thank you very much! Awesome suggestions. I hope we can try them all.

Thanks1
"Assess the damage" when the bill comes--love it..gonna steal it for my own use! Oh, I love that the fancy cafe doesn't require fancy clothes like some other fancy restaurants.
Hahaha...thanks! Ah, we were lucky otherwise we wouldn't have made the cut...lol
Wonderful
Thank you!
A bit too fancy (and expensive) for my taste and way too crowded. I prefer the Central Cafe.
Ah, we didn't get to visit that one. Hopefully the next time we're in Budapest.
Central Café isn't quite so blatantly touristy yet still has the old world charm.
aaaaaaaaa its a date so cute❤,why not try go to the beach or amusement park😁
Ah, thank you! That would have been a good idea to keep the date going longer.
Samuel and Audrey - Travel and Food Videos are you samuel or audrey?
As some say here 'the banks of the Danube is our Riviera' I use to dream of spending my life in these coffee houses like many of our great historians and thinkers
I liked the Dunaparty Megálló too
Thanks for the tour

This is undispitudely the best cafe in the world..A must visit place in Budapest...
It is truly incredible!
No it's not. It's just the ground floor of an ITALIAN hotel in BP . You 've fallen for a tourist trap. Such a cliché but you did unfortunately.
Sam is my future husband! 😍😍
Hey Sam & Audrey... It will be cool if you visit Armenia and show us top 20 things to do in Armenia. You"ll have fun and can highlight your journey. Best regards, -Ray from California
Thank you Ray! That is a cool idea. I hope we can visit Armenia.
How are you able to travel to such different places, is something related to your jobs?
Yes, we work online which allows us to travel and keep our business going.
noice, and wha is that job you mentioned?
But not nice enough to elicit an "ooh la la" from Audrey :)
LOL! Not an A+ stamp of approval then ;)
Are you guys coming to Romania? :)
Yes, we really hope to visit Romania again :) Any suggestions on where we should go?
ok, well I think I remember you have been to Bucharest and Brasov also, if I'm correct.
I trully reccomand you should visit Bucovina with its amazing monasterys, Transilvania - Viscri (where Prince Charles actually owns an old transilvanian house) and so many more; Maramures - Barsana Monastery, Cluj-Napoca, Iasi etc
That depends on how much you are planning to stay.
Funny, almost every recomended city-is Hungarian....
Dawg you look like Niko Rosberg yo
Hahaha...thanks!
Decor is nice the service and everything else not so much.
We found the service okay.
Why is it a, "NY style cheesecake..."?! They've been making cheesecake in Europe longer than they have in NYC...where do you think it came from...???
Great review, however I am just incredibly disappointed by the fact that you went all the way to Hungary to eat a damn cheesecake while the country is famous for its mind-blowing selection of cakes. Either way, I am glad the place got some exposure. hahaha
Thanks! What are a few must try cakes to have? We should have made more effort to try them.
Samuel and Audrey - Travel and Food Videos Hi there! Best cakes for next time: Eszterhazy, Somloi galuska, oroszkrèm torta, Rigó Jancsi, dobos torta, Rákóczi túrós, etc. ;-)
Thanks so much for sharing that! Our list for next time :)
Confeitaria Colombo! In Rio de Janeiro!
Cafe Tortoni?.....C'mon!....Really?!!....
In what way?
expensive date :)
Hahaha...it kind of was ;)
Paying quadruple for dessert $150-, Watching an American tasting real beer in Europe, priceless! :D Just a joke,, Btw; You should have visited the Gerbaud Cafe on Vörösmarty plaza for outstanding desserts.
This cafe is sooooooo overpriced, it's ridiculous. As much as I enjoy a good desert, Budapest has plenty of cheap options you can go for.
It is pricey but at the same time quite magnificent inside. I can understand not wanting to visit frequently but we enjoyed our one time inside.
Borsodi is one of the worst beer in Hungary. For sure.
Oh, our bad. What are your top beers to try?
seriously? drinking bear with cheesecake??? how awful is that..
LOL, it was actually okay,.
THE BEST places to visit in hungary NO 1 BUDAPEST NO 2 BUDAPEST NO.3 BUDAPEST .Rest is Silence!
Gotta love Budapest!
racism cafe
Shame it's called New York Café. New York city is nice where it is. Europe has no own identity/pride and often "Americanizes" things to make them more attractive. With such an opulent building, the café should have gotten another name.
The building was constructed in 1894 by the New York Life Insurance Company as a local head office. The more you know..
Thank you for the background information :)
@@icseke thank you köszönöm
Worst service.
Do not go !!
