Thanks for the best tent review ever! Loads of details, great pitching advice and even a tip for visiting North Wales. (I have always used the hard G and I’m English). Been looking for a budget friendly Winter tent for some time and now the Orion is in the mix. I want head height for those dark evenings and space for a dog. This looks like the one for me!
@@bexbugoutsurvivor Hi Bex, just wanted to put a question to you. As I mentioned above I bought this tent last year which was £120. How would you rate it in terms of wind & rain resistance? For extreme weather, would I need to be spending £500+ on a tent that can withstand heavy rain and strong winds?
Excellent video Bex. Have a good night camping, such beautiful weather - it's all your fault if it turns :-D All the best, you're looking in fine form 👍👍👍
Hello Bex and I like your honest review and I like vango tents and this tent would make a good tent for bugging out . Thanks for sharing and all the best.. David
Although not technically a hiking tent due to its 2.6 kilos, I wouldn't change a thing, even though there is a 1 person 1.6 kilo version, but the outer is pitched separately, may look at that too later in the year perhaps. Thanx for watching...bex
Just used mine for the first time last week in wast water for 4 days in blistering heat nice change for the lakes.. seems like a good bit of kit to me.. next is to see what it's like in the wind and rain.. but that's never too far away in this country... anyway nice little film that gave me some advice on the tent before I got it... I'm ex RGJ... Stag on...👍
I am looking into custom made Carbon Fibre poles for mine, found a site that will make me some. It will go up on trekking poles too, but door opening will be compromised, but pack weight is greatly reduced. Its those clancky aluminium poles that is the culprit of the weight. The arctic tent is near bombproof...lol....take care....bex
The Darwin looks good too. I tend to stow poles separately on the out side of the pack, and loose fill the tent body into the lower compartment of my packs. The Orion isn't really considered a light weight tent, but with my thermarest and top quilt and stove set, just shy of 8.2 kg all in...thanx for watching...bex
I've had one of these for a couple of years. I'm going to try your method of set up as I always struggle to get the fly sheet tight. I think it could do with a couple of loops on the ceiling for hanging a light. I agree with your remarks about lack of info on this model, even Vango's own web site. I ended up buying a footprint for a Tempest 200 (same size) as no extras or accessories seem to exist for the Orion. It's a very robust tent, and your review is accurate from my own experiences.
The buckles inside the tent is the TBS designed to tighten the pitch in winds, these should always be unbuckled during the pitching. The 100 Helix looks good too, and about a kilo lighter, may look into that too. Thanx for watching...bex
Hi Bex , I absolutely swear by vango tents I've e had the blade and currently have the tempest 300 , my pal has the Orion too , great tents , great vid as always ,can't wait for the next one, be lucky and stay safe

I can't pitch on national trail path land anymore due to the plague, but the proving ground is still safe, as it it not in the public interest to walk there, so hope to be out with the Orion 200 soon, albeit same old background...lol Take it easy falla, God bless bex
Just bought mine, inner wasn't connected took me about 30 minutes to get it up, wish I had watched this video first. Looks roomy enough for 1 person, and plenty of room in the bag to put a Tarpaulin in too and some of my heavier pegs. Great review though. I did try the coleman bedrock 2 but it was too cramped, glad I swapped it for the vango.
Although at 2.6 kilos (bit heavy) for back packing, I shave a lot of weight elsewhere in the kit as a minimalist, and my base weight was 5.5 kg I think. Really wind proof when the guy-linesare anchored in high wind gusts, but not neccessary in moderate winds....bex
I got mezelf one of these. After I saw this video I decided to have the Orion instead of a Coleman Darwin. Which btw is way heavier. Most of all I don't want to be sheep. So, thanks for sharing and helping us with any confusion about the dumppockets. I have to find another solution yet, atb
Great review. I wish vango would push their UK credentials a little more. I think the DofE recommendations of the Banshee and Tempest drive users to those two great tents. Re Trowel v Pocket - totally agree!
Lol Trowel v pockets... Had no issues so far, bit short and too heavy for long distance multi night trekking, but for one or two nights is a luxurious tent for little money....bex

Cracking looking tent mate, I've had the banshee for years lol and it's been a good tent but there are definitely drawbacks with the space and entry/ exit etc. That looks a much better design. Cheers mate
Plenty of space in this one. Reality is, a 2 person tent is really a one person tent with the kit and your dog inside . My one person vango blade we one person tent with kit and the dog outside....lol
Ive always thought it's best to have the entrance to your shelters parallel to the wind , so when it changes direction you have a better chance of the wind not blowing in on you, all the best my mate, take care
Guess I will end up trying all ways, before coming to a suitable conclusion. I found these guild lines are generally old wives tales anyway, like "if you drop food its okay to eat if its only been on the floor for three seconds" .I can get that to an hour....lol Take it easy fella, stay safe....bex

Excellent review, I also stuff my rent, but in two separate bags, much easier when they are wet. I have two Vangos, budget tents, Zetes 200 and 300,replaced the poles with alloy and sprayed them with Nikwax! Great tents. The Orion looks great, especially with the TBS, not sure it's a 4 season tent like Vango claim? Cheers
4 season if it doesn't snow...lol For snow load you would need a geodesic pole structure, Vango do the mirage or the F10 and halo among others, that have a geo pole structure. The Orion is designed for high winds......thanx 4 watching
i remember reading/hearing somewhere that before the Romans invaded Albion the kingdom of wales went from where it is now right through Lancashire Cumbria all the way to the clyde ;o)
The Orion was chosen for its extra foot end height, allowing a greater gap to prevent damp transference to my down fill sleeping bag, thus preventing my bag wetting out. Although the tempest is popular, it is probably better suited for synthetic fill sleeping bags...imo
The Orion (according to plans) is 5cm higher at foot end and also at highest point, other than that (and the colour difference) the tents are identical. The apparent difference may even be anomaly as I was told by someone from Vango that they are exactly the same tent and that the Orion is just the version marketed for Amazon. I think the Orion is a better colour.
Thank you so much for a great video! I have just bought one on the strength of your review. What sold me on it... 1. how you set it up 2. the fact the inner and out are connected and 3. weight when combined with other items. ( i have a super light super warm Enlightened duvet). I'm solo but being stuck in a one man tent not for me. Like space to move around! Off on the SWCP path shortly, how long i go for is very dependent on how comfortable I am :) Now just to sort the ground mat
For a ground mat I have owned many, and not easily impressed. However this ground mat has taken my camping to a whole new level as a cold sleeper. Not cheap, but what price can you put on comfort warmth, compact & lightweight kit....Watch this for an honest opinion.... ua-cam.com/video/MDLWpytIoo8/v-deo.html
Bex, looks like a great option, quick setup, lots of room for one person, price seems fair enough . I hope this finds you well, stay safe my friend, God bless !
Thank you, mine came last week, it was a big help, haven`t pitch a tent in 30 years, and it was less than 6min....although I have to add, looks like new production doesn`t have outer and inner connected, but it was literally 3 min job... dog rolling on it slowed me down though🤦
Got Mine Brand new in 2018 for 70 Euros a real bargain. Had it out in the Cairngorms in pouring rain with no issues. The only problem I had was that my down sleeping bag got wet at the foot as it touched the inner tent one night. I thought of selling it to upgrade but can't find a worthy successor for a good price. Very good review and I wonder like you: why don't more people buy it?
I sleep feet at the door end to give more foot space, when using my down bags. Also provides a view when doors are open. Head to door end, for synthetic sleeping bag is fine tho....bex
I've just subscribed & rang the notification bell. I've also read many of the replies B4 composing the following: Do you have any thoughts/comments/observations on the stitching on the seams, on the seam sealing, on the waterproofness of those seams? Have you ever re-sealed any leaky seams & if so what seam sealing products did you use. Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada, U.S.A.
Thanx for subbing....I have tried the cheaper option of painting seam sealant over leaking stick work, but its not easy to be neat. I soon switched to using tenacious tape. Its expensive for the small amount you receive, but the repair is permanent, and the finish is neat.....www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1313&_nkw=slim+Tenacious+Repair+Tape&_sacat=0 Also will repair holes in air pads, tears in tent fabric, and have repaired a rucksack too. If it is a cheap tent, just brush on seam sealant, if your not worried about the finished look..... www.amazon.co.uk/Gear-Aid-Waterproof-Sealant-Adhesive/dp/B0016HS8XC/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=seam+sealant&qid=1609454765&sr=8-1 atb...bex
@@bexbugoutsurvivor The liquid Gear Aid Seam Grip WP is exactly what I'm using & what I've used in the past. The shiny appearance doesn't bother MEeee. It's a product I like & one that has worked for me. I have & use Tenacious tape to cover those small holes where Down starts to escape from the exterior of garments & it does the job. Now it's my turn to show/give you something useful when eating/cooking. I like Freeze Dried Meals that come in those foil pouches, but I don't like & don't use those foil pouches. When preparing for a camping trip & while I'm still at home, I open the foil pouches that have the food I want to eat during my camping trip. With the Peak Refuel meals, because there is so much food in a pouch, I pour out & weight 2 equal portions & put the portions of food into 1qt Freezer ziplock baggies. The meals now take up less room & are easier to store in my backpack. When I'm out on the trail & ready to eat, I boil 24oz of water in a 750ml Titanium cup. Once the water is boiling I pour 16oz of the boiling water into a Reflectix Koozie covered 450ml Titanium cup for coffee. I then pour the freeze dried food into my 750ml cup that is already hot with boiling water. Once the food is in the cup I insert the cup into a Reflectix Koozie & wait for my meal to rehydrate in my Koozie covered cup. 10 minutes later when the meal has rehydrated, I now have a meal that is almost TOO HOT to eat, right down to the last sporkful. No long handled spork needed. Here are photo of my Koozie covered cups so you will know exactly what I've been talking about: www.flickr.com/photos/bc_az/albums/72157717283951098
As I need to carry water in to camp, the water weight doesn't justify me using de hydrated meals (but great if there is a water source on route of course). I usually use canned food, and transfer it into mylar lined bags. I can just boil in the bag, and use the water for drinking. I can justify the weight of the wet food by carrying less water, (for dinks only) its just my preference, as your preference is your method. On the topic of seem sealing, I am looking into hot melt tape (iron on) but no have no direct experience of this, and generally keep my tenacious tape for field repairs.....b
@@bexbugoutsurvivor I tried the iron on seam tape 5-6 years ago. It never really sealed/adhered to the material I was trying to seam seal & I easily pulled it off several days later. I'll keep watching/listening to your videos & will be interested in what you come up with. If it doesn't work, please tell us.
Another great vid. I came across this one by accident after finding this tent for £100 on Amazon prime. I’m stuck between this and the Cairngorms 200. And now even more ‘stuck’. I like the extra size of the Orion but I really like the weight of the other. Btw, wild camping is legal in Scotland. Albeit there’s some rules and bye laws to keep to in a few areas (mainly Trussochs).
I had a similar shaped design tent to the Cairngorms 200. Be aware of tents with steep sided walls...check out why here...ua-cam.com/video/e4q2jE6Doww/v-deo.html If weight is an issue, I would look to what could be dropped from your kit, to compensate. My ethos is shelter insulation and a cook set is all you need. I add a sundies kit compact, that video here....ua-cam.com/video/ZOyCD-fboTo/v-deo.html and add in just one set of change of clothes, Polyester is light weight and quick drying and compact compared to cotton, and a light weight #goose Down jacket. The weight will come from food & water rather than the kit you carry. This affords roomier tents & sleeping bags if desired...Hope this helps...bex
Hi Bex, I just got this tent and I love it already! Bex, I have a question, I have only just got it and put it up in my lounge quickly to get the fly and inner joined. Strange thing is, the rear tension bands appear different from yours? The front one is the same as yours but I'm confused about the back one on my tent, its also attatched to the fly, so when you put the inner in you cant get to it???? Any ideas? Cheers mate. [ My inner and Fly weren't connected at the factory, no big deal but I thought i'd mention it]
Look to the inner tent at the rear, and locate 2 slits positioned near the mesh. These slits are velcro and you may need to locate them and pull them apart. Thread the TBS thu the velcro slots....
Both are pretty good, the Orion 200 just gives a little more height on the foot end. Neither are that good if you are tall. At 5'8" mine is snug, so I lay diagonally.
I was taught door facing the wind, that way the midges will take refuge at the back of the tent not the door,I think alot of these so called rules are made up by people who never really go out,my rule is best view gets the door.
It's versatile, well made and very sturdy. I don't get it why people don't give it a go. Good review, ty. Btw...I read the story of Gelert, very sad. ;-( I didn't get the name of the motorcycle tent...Slummit cup 1???
Slumit cub 2. It has an exo skellington frame, goes up like an umbrella. Pitch time 30 seconds for me, then guy it out. There is a re-visit video coming up soon on the slumit cub 2. Will leave you a link on an older video I did on it...... ua-cam.com/video/Ol4F8FAa30I/v-deo.html
Hi! Bex, Dump pockets, will he mention the vernacular usage of the term? You didn't fail me. 😂 I bought a Vango Banshee 300 Pro about a year or so ago. I haven't go round to using it yet. I bought it in a sale at a good price, it has upgraded stitching and zips throughout and enough room for me to spread out. I like the fact it has a door on each side, better chance of a nice view. I suppose we shall all be having holidays at home for a year or two, if and when this virus runs its course. Good review, good strong tent. I have only heard one or two give negative comments on them and that was with the groundsheet leaking a little, after years of use. An extra footprint of polythene underneath, should fix that problem. Take care mate, all the best to you and your family. God bless, Steven.
next time i see one of these tents unattended i will make use of its dump pouches, lol, but it does look like a good 'camping' tent, where tent's are the preferred option, Dont think i would trade one for my polish or hungarian lavvu thou
Feel free to use my dump pockets...lol I was the other school of thinking, and infact did replace my polish lavvu for a tent, I found the pol Lav terrible when wet bulky and heavy, and definitely wasn't fire proof...Couldn't stand for laughing as I watched it burn. Panic reaction I think. Its on the channel some where. But I.m not really into the bushcraft side of kit, but i did one own one...take care bex
bex bugoutsurvivor ... for me the lavvu is a winter camping setup, as it retains heat, I have a couple of pup tents too, ... but yes main flaw with all of them is the weight,
This tent is apparently no longer being manufactured by Vango. And there is no retailer in America for any Vango tent. Warm Regards, from Reno, Nevada U.S.A. A few are available on eBay, however, the shipping charges in addition to the tent price make Vango tents TOO expensive & unavailable.
There are plenty left to buy on the net. I too have to pay import to buy kit, in order to make free videos for views to watch. Now you know how I feel....
Hullo Big Lad ..... ok I’ve got me one of these bad boys for a longterm bicycle tour on which my tent will be my home !! So my question is this ..... how is it preforming now ..... I’m sure you have given it plenty use by now ..... !!?? Anyhoo keep on keeping on sir i send my best regards 😁
No problems so far. Water tight no leaks, used with Sig only no footprint, and no ground ingress. Stoop up to gale force winds, up to nearly 50 mph. Little heavy side for rucking but great for bike packing. I used fly only, in good weather to save a kilo or so..bex 😀
I think you will find like the vast majority of tents in the UK they are made in China, some of the top end and some of the budget are made in the same factory by the same workers. If you doubt it check the small print Vango as in "Govan" letters rearranged, are just the distributors, it's been a long time since any sort of equipment came out of Scotland.
I think you'll find I said Vango was a Scottish company, and NEVER said it was manufactured in Scotland... I think you'll also find I couldn't give a shite what little pedants like you think...
Nice review thanks !!! I think the main reason it's not selling well, is price related ...for not much more you can get a Hydra 200 ...which imo is a better all-rounder than the Orion is .
NOT A BIG SELLER IN RELATION TO THE VANGO BANSHEE OR TEMPEST , PAY ATTENTION.. THE HYDRA IS A GOEDESIC TENT, GEARED FOR SNOW LOAD AS ALSO MENTIONED IN THE VIDEO, AGAIN PAY MORE ATTENTION...

Loving you’re channel if you had to pick between the Orian or tempest what one would you go for sir 🏴✌️
I went for the vango hellyvian I can’t spell

Glad it helped. 6 minutes, well done you. I was out in mine last night, no wind so pegged only the front and back with 4 pegs in total.....b
Hi Bex ,
Brilliant review , very informative , with a good dose of humour , look after yourself out there .
Thank you kindly!
I've just subscribed & rang the notification bell. I've also read many of the replies B4 composing the following:
Do you have any thoughts/comments/observations on the stitching on the seams, on the seam sealing, on the waterproofness of those seams?
Have you ever re-sealed any leaky seams & if so what seam sealing products did you use.
Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada, U.S.A.
Thanx for subbing....I have tried the cheaper option of painting seam sealant over leaking stick work, but its not easy to be neat. I soon switched to using tenacious tape. Its expensive for the small amount you receive, but the repair is permanent, and the finish is neat.....www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1313&_nkw=slim+Tenacious+Repair+Tape&_sacat=0
Also will repair holes in air pads, tears in tent fabric, and have repaired a rucksack too. If it is a cheap tent, just brush on seam sealant, if your not worried about the finished
look.....

Be aware of tents with steep sided walls...check out why here...ua-cam.com/video/e4q2jE6Doww/v-deo.html
If weight is an issue, I would look to what could be dropped from your kit, to compensate.
@@bexbugoutsurvivor Of course, slits in the inner! I am a dick! lol...Thanks mate :}
I really like the look of the tent. Really torn between this and banshee pro 200.... Not sure what to go for 🤔
Both are pretty good, the Orion 200 just gives a little more height on the foot end. Neither are that good if you are tall. At 5'8" mine is snug, so I lay diagonally.
@@bexbugoutsurvivor thanks for the info I've bought Orion now ☺️ can't wait to take it out for a spin
Brilliant - that’s sold it to me.
Mine's been thru some storms. In summer I peg out on just 4 pegs, and is won't need guying out either...all the best thanx for watching....bex
I was taught door facing the wind, that way the midges will take refuge at the back of the tent not the door,I think alot of these so called rules are made up by people who never really go out,my rule is best view gets the door.
Think I like your idea, door to the view. Except in high winds....lol

Hope for more reviews to come, cheers
How waterproof is this tent . Ireland is way wetter than the uk 🤣😂
The HH was stated in the video.
Hi! Bex,
Dump pockets, will he mention the vernacular usage of the term? You didn't fail me. 😂
I bought a Vango Banshee 300 Pro about a year or so ago.
God bless,
Steven.
next time i see one of these tents unattended i will make use of its dump pouches, lol,
but it does look like a good 'camping' tent, where tent's are the preferred option,
Dont think i would trade one for my polish or hungarian lavvu thou
Feel free to use my dump pockets...lol
I was the other school of thinking, and infact did replace my polish lavvu for a tent, I found the pol Lav terrible when wet bulky and heavy, and definitely wasn't fire proof...Couldn't stand for laughing as I watched it burn. Panic reaction I think. Its on the channel some where. But I.m not really into the bushcraft side of kit, but i did one own one...take care bex
bex bugoutsurvivor ... for me the lavvu is a winter camping setup, as it retains heat, I have a couple of pup tents too, ... but yes main flaw with all of them is the weight,
“Dump pockets” 🤣🤣🤣
having there eye out nice
Looks decent mate.
cheers bud....Bex
This tent is apparently no longer being manufactured by Vango. And there is no retailer in America for any Vango tent. Warm Regards, from Reno, Nevada U.S.A.
A few are available on eBay, however, the shipping charges in addition to the tent price make Vango tents TOO expensive & unavailable.
There are plenty left to buy on the net. I too have to pay import to buy kit, in order to make free videos for views to watch. Now you know how I feel....
It's currently available on Amazon UK for £120

Slum-it 😀👍
Cub II.....
Dump pockets...lol!
Try not to incur the death penalty !
LOL Thanks, now if it was only available in the US!
Ha,ha, ime English and never understood why ' gelert' is sometimes pronounced 'jelert'
Ha yeh. May as well call Llandudno Ludo....lol
@@bexbugoutsurvivor even some English place names are difficult to pronounce.
Still has to go through Vango 's quality control and specifications. Most company's in UK EU USA get their manufacturing done in china even apple
@@ColtSievers1000 Vango are manufactured in SCOTLAND fact.
