I had a granddaughter stay with me for a year, and she was really keen on getting some stuff from storage at another house she and her brother had stayed at. Mostly toys. But even though she was in her early teens, she was SO excited to see those toys again. I feel so sorry for the children of this family. You know there are favorite toys in that find that they will never see again.
My sister paid to get my cousins’ stuff out of hock. Primarily she wanted the letters that my grandparents wrote to each other during the war…WWI. All typed with CCs. Three years worth of history. They had not even met yet. It was a “write a letter to a soldier” campaign. Worth the ransom paid. There is mention of a coat my grandmother had her eye on and was saving for…I have a photo of her in that coat with the open galoshes very popular at the time.
Tip for moving out in a scramble: rather than wasting money on storage keeping junk, post on Craigslist, FB Marketplace, etc. A friend was moving and had a lot of items she didn't want to fuss with, keep, pack, etc. So, she put it all on a table in the corner of her garage, took a picture, and posted, "Moving out. Each item is $5 each." She got a couple people, but then a guy showed up, made an offer and took all of her stuff. Another day she put a bunch of stuff at the end of her driveway - treadmill, scrap metal, nightstand, etc. - and posted a pic that said "free," and it was gone in 45 minutes. Better to sell it dirt cheap than waste money on storing stuff you're not going to come back for. Alex said it best when he said a fast nickel is better than a slow dime.
What is really sad with this unit is that those toys and plushies were probably some little guys' childhood memories that he is never getting back, made me very heavy hearted. I hope some other child gets some of those to enjoy and be happy.
Thank you Alex for having decent human respect about going through someone's stuff. This one was a hard one. Clothes and most toys have little resale value but are such personal items. That unit was so stuffed and so random full of tiny stuff. It's sad that someone probably packed in in a panic. So good that you donate winter clothes and the bed. Thanks, happy holidays and HUGS
This type of thing makes me so sad. As a child, we lost everything when my stepdad left us and my mom got laid off. We lost our house and everything in it. I went to live with my grandparents with one small basket (like the white one in the video) of clothes and my teddy bear. All our stuff was thrown away or sold to the highest bidder. This brought all of that back to me.
@@victoriagreenfield5781 Sorry you went through such a rough childhood. When an apartment is being abandoned sometimes the landlord can't reach the tenant so they put all their stuff into the storage unit and then the tenant has to pay for the storage and claim their things if they want it.
We have a store here in my city in WI that is called "Left Behind". It's run by some landlords who sell used stuff that their tenants left in the apartments. Things like kitchen goods, decorative items, clothing and furniture, etc. It's very, very reasonable.
I'm addicted to watching. It's sad, though. Reminds me of when I had to go through my sister's belongings when her husband passed away 9 years after she did. He didn't clear out her stuff after she passed away, so there was stuff I remembered from when we were younger. And his stuff.
Alex is definitely a wealth of knowledge. Some other youtube guys that do storage lockers know nothing and it's frustrating watching them discard stuff of value
Big up and well done to Melissa's friend for giving a home to somebody, I wish I was close by as I have some new bedding I could donate . . . England is a long way to post something! Happy New Year and many thanks.
@ we don’t donate and recycle like you do in America, we have a place called the tip but stiff is still put into land fill from there and they don’t pay you for metal stuff
I feel the same...this looks like someone who may have been evicted and had to shove all their contents into the storage unit, and then lost that too. I'm very glad they can make something good come out of it, but it makes me sad. 😢
Especially when you see their clothing, toys, beds….who can go live somewhere else without their personals. You wonder if their children lives are okay? I’m glad they can make use of this, but you’re right, it makes you sad the parents can’t get it together for their family.
what a fascinating video! I really enjoyed watching your process of digging through the $400 junk storage unit. It’s amazing how many hidden gems can be found in such places. Personally, I think you did a great job showcasing the potential value in seemingly useless items. I love the thrill of the hunt, and you definitely captured that! Can’t wait to see what else you discover in future episodes!
Alex said he returned the cart to the store, presumably Home Depot. That would be sad if the cart was actually purchased and Alex just returned it instead of selling to help recoup his money.
It is amazing how much storage units cost and the amount they raise the prices to. So easy to lose a unit for someone else to purchase. Happy Holidays to you and your family
Storage lockers can be really hit or miss. It's difficult to judge from a photo or two. This one was unbelievably stuffed full. Hope you got back your investment and a bit to cover gas for the truck and other expenses.

Even units with black bags pf clothes can be profitable. I had a $60 unit with 2 totes (and a New Huskey tool box) and about 12 large black bags of clothes.. to sort thru. A few nice winter jackets, 4 or 5 Harley Davidson t-Shirts.. already have my money back. After sorting 12 bags I think I had 3 totes full of name brand clothing to be washed and sell. And about 10 bags of clothes and bedding(sheets or blankets/towels) that go to a Church donation for the Homeless. And because everything was bagged or in boxes... maybe only 1 hour labor to load up. Time is just like money too.
I would have liked to see the clothing in the bags. There are clothing consignment shops that may take them or do you bring them to the auction? Thanks Alex! You did good on this one.
