    I like the idea that the players choose the captain. The key for the club is to stock the squad with viable contenders.

      Great insight. I think it should be someone who the manager trusts but getting the players buy in is crucial as it needs to be a member of the squad that demands respect. The players will give a good insight to this. Agreed that we are light on the ground so we need to fill the squad with a few more players who have leadership qualities.

    We need more players in general, certainly we need a leader last time we where In Division One we had Liam Daish. We have to start well if we want to get promoted otherwise we are going to be playing catch up all season.

    When the club announced that Bielik had signed a new contract there were comments about Bielik being captain. I get your point about him being the best choice in the current squad but I 100% agree with you both that we need to sign more than a few leaders and ideally a new captain. One that leads by example but is also a really good communicator and the latter I don't see in Bielik.
    Totally agree that a CH or CM are the best positions got a captain.

      Thank you for your comment Richard. Leadership on the pitch is something that was a glaring omission last season and something that has to be fixed for the coming season.
      I'm pleased with the signings we have made so far but I would like to see a few older, experienced heads being brought in to provide that grit, know how and leadership that we are going to need in a none compromising league. I'm sure the club must have identified this as a priority. KRO and kind regards (Gary)

    Great podcast again Gents.
    The topic being discussed is incredibly important and I totally agree with what’s been said
    The only captain that we have potentially is Bielik and I don’t think he is a true leader.
    If the recruitment does not include 3-4 vice captains then they have failed. Our lack of captaincy contributed to us being relegated last year. This has to stop. I do not want to see smiling, jovial faces like Nathan Laird, who, in my opinion is never captain material. I want to see determined concentrated faces who want to win at any cost. We need to See the passion and fight in their eyes every game even in Pre Season friendlies. If I was still playing I would fight blood sweat and tears for Blues or any club who paid me to be a professional footballer. Without this then we could end up being in League One for a couple of years. This is not going to be as easy as we think. KRO

    • @BCFCRoyalBlue
      @BCFCRoyalBlue  Місяць тому +2

      Thanks Robbie and really interesting insights :)
      Yeah, 3-4 vice captains sounds reasonable and should be one of the highest priorities for recruitment this summer as we pretty much have none at the moment. We are gutless and it was clear last season we lacked real leadership on the pitch. I agree with you, this was one of the huge factors on the pitch that ultimately got us the drop.
      I think Laird was winding everyone up last year with half hearted performances but then trying to get the crowd rallied / fired up. This wouldn't be necessary to some extent if the players played with that passion and fight we so often talk about. We would be fired up with them.
      I'm with you that getting these sorts of players in isn't easy and they will need to be spot on this summer to get us ready for next season.
      Very best, KRO!

    Hi lads. Another great video. Impo we need to be sorting out our spine. I was so chuffed that Beilik has extended his stay. He's going to be such a force for us this season with his solid defensive game reading play. My work colleagues and I all agree he should wear the captain's arm band next season. It's a pity that Paik and Myoishi haven't come forward and pledged their loyalty for us this year. I hope they do. Even if they do, we are still shy in a load of positions. We require another RB, CB, CM, RM & striker at the bear minimum. We know that the kids will not be up for a starting place after Saturday. One or two of them possibly on the bench at best. We're covered on the left with three players midfielders and now two left backs. Two keepers, but that's all we really have.
    Hopefully more signings in the coming days. Fingers crossed gents.KRO

      Unless the club recruit a few leaders I think Beilek is nailed on to be captain. To be honest we need at least 2-3 experienced players who could be captain otherwise if Beilek is selected as captain we will be back to square one if he is injured or suspended.
      I’m pleased with the.Cochrane addition which was confirmed today however as you point out we still need a lot of further signings to bolster the squad. KRO and kind regards (Gary)

    I'm sure Davies knows the value of a great captain. Whether he buys a captain for leadership qualities alone is doubtful. Not all successful captains are vocal. Some lead by example. That is the type of leadership players most respect. Shouting in a noisy stadium has limited effect. Close one-to-one verbal communication between all players is more important. A team with 11 acting captains is the ideal. Hand gestures from the bench are probably more useful when it comes to tactical instructions.

    • @BCFCRoyalBlue
      @BCFCRoyalBlue  Місяць тому +2

      Thanks mate and really good points!
      I think a good captain certainly leads by example. This is one of the most important attributes and they tailor that approach for each player. Some players love a bark and some players prefer closer one to one communication. This has certainly been my experience playing in teams, every player is different but a captain knows how to get the best from his 11 men on the pitch.
      I like what you said about 11 acting captains. This screams team cohesion, trust and a togetherness that I feel we have been missing for quite some time.

      We are way too passive as a team and it really shows. Of course we can point to the manager turnover as our biggest fault last year but on the pitch we were way too timid and it showed. A big reason for relegation was the lack of leaders and people willing to really fight.

    Giorgio Chiellini is the greatest capitano ever !
    I’m not saying we could get anything like him 😀
    Our new captain has to be a central defender or midfielder.
    He has to be physically strong, mentally intelligent, read the game and be the managers deputy on the pitch.
    I’m sure we will get someone in who’s mentally strong enough to lead Chris Davis team.

      Agree with you 100%. The captain certainly needs to be a good talker on the pitch and not worry too much about his own game - Bryan Robson was a great example of that. In a perfect world I would always want a captain to be a central midfield player. Central defender possibly, but goalies and strikers just don't work for me. Anyway happy with the new signings so far! KRO (and of course another great podacast guys).
