Ram 2500 6.7 transmission issues when EGR deleted

- If you're considering purchasing a used Ram truck that has been tuned, be aware that your transmission is not going to last and will likely need an upgrade rebuild. This is expensive with a bottom line price of $3500. The EGR delete/ tune options have added horsepower but consequences. I hope this helps you in your decision when purchasing a used truck. I knew nothing about this when I bought mine and it cost me a lot of money and headache when all I wanted was a dependable vehicle.
ATS diesel in Colorado has a bullet proof Allison complete conversion. It’s a bit pricey, yet once done you’ll be glad you did this.
2012 ram cummins deleted. Currently 208,000 and no problems from anything. Stock tune, I drive it like an old lady.
Exactly, stock tunes add max 10hp, lol
Glad I’m not the only one, I deleted mine at 127 and am at 132k with my 2012 Longhorn
Believe it or not, diesel engines love it when you push them hard. Not drive fast, but actually let it work by towing and hauling heavy things
Not all tuners turn em up that high on horsepower. Mine has a 30, 60, 100, 150, and 200 horsepower settings. Don’t wanna hurt it just leave it on the 30hp or 60 hp setting.
An extra 150hp is still within the spec of the truck including the 68RFE. I added an ATS deep transmission pan, a transmission thermal coolant block delete and an ATS 68RFE case brace. Trans runs between 135-140 now and with the new pan and case brace the week case is now reinforced. I also never hot rod the truck.
I live in central Florida, stock transmission, and my temp sits between 130-140 as well. But absolutely nothing done to it. Just a egr delete and 4” straight pipe and no tune.
I deleted mine at 2k miles on the truck, been running 200 hp tune and now at 50k miles, no probs yet out of it
Edit: running 37x13.50 mud grapplers and tow lightweight alot
When I de-EPA'd my 2012 RAM 2500 CTD, I had the transmission tune added to the main tuner, I did have some shifting issues prior too, but none since.
Just bought a used 2016 that's been deleted that's giving a chirp from first to second. Wish I would have seen this video earlier.
It's been a year since the rebuild and no problems so far.
Get a better tuner, such as an MM3 from Double R Diesel, you can push way more HP. Every source I've found states as long as you stay below 120 HP you will not have a transmission problem with an un-upgraded tranny. You are not going to have ANY emissions issues (EGR, DPF, SCR) as your truck ages, $$$ savings to you, you will not have to pay for the EGR cooler to be cleaned at 67.5K, $$$ savings to you, your not going to have to replace the DPF ever again, $$$ saving to you, you have dramatically increased your MPG, that alone will pay for the tranny and no more DEF ever again. Not to mention you saved 3k from the previous owner paying for emissions deletes. I hope this video didn't convince anyone not to delete.
2012 deleted, tuned, studded, running stock 68 and no issues runs great! Although I dont hotdog my truck or however everyone wants to put it. Change fluids regularly and keep rolling. I tow 10k trailer as well at least twice a month. Non towing I run 120hp tune to,get mileage, towing I run stock and or tow 40hp tune depending on how heavy the trailer. I know it will eventually catch up to me but I drive as normal as possible ( not saying you or anyone doesn't) but I have no complaints. But definitely a mild built 68 is on my check list for extra insurance.
I've tuned a lot of trucks and not all tunes are high horse power. I just did a 19 ram and it got a 30hp tow tune. That's it no other tunes available on the programmer. And you can put SOTF tunes in that go from stock to a 180hp or so. But don't say every tuned truck has over a hundred hp added because that statement is blatantly untrue. And if you really want your trans to last to pull heavy loads and run big tunes put in the B-D Diesel 68Rfe trans protect kit. Up your line pressure and you'll be fine. Its only about $200
Don’t tune it and you won’t need to worry about it.. That’s what 95% of what everyone does. I deleted my egr, no power gain, and a 4” straight. I just used the tuner to clear the codes then took it off and never tuned it.
I have a deleted Mega Cab with a 68 and no issues... deleted at 13k and at 160k currently.
The real problem is the valve body, get a revmax and you wont have to worry about your low line pressure slipping your clutch's
you delete the engine to save the truck, you don't delete to ruin a transmission. If you don't hog it, and run it hard, then a delete will not kill the 68RFE. drive like a normal human after the delete and you're fine.
Yes, I bought it with 190K on it. That 68RFE was shot from longshot hauls I think. After a $3500. Transmission rebuild, I still only had $23,000.00 in the truck. It's been dependable since. I'll probably keep it.
I just spent $4450 on a new 63MM turbo (stock went out), tuner and deleted. Had it back 1 day, never got on it and it fried 3rd-6th gear. AND, this transmission was put in at around 65,000 miles. I bought it at 120,000 miles. This trans is junk with a deleted tune!
Not "over 1,000 horsepower", but 1,000 Torque.
A 1,000 horsepower truck would be a likely trailered Race Truck and the Torque would be more like 1,800-2,000
If you have any more issues look into ATS 68RFE transmissions, Good to go.
just reading the comments LOL people buy a 2500 series truck to pull heavy loads campers flat bed trailers not to run to Walmart or around town LOL YES the 68 r trans is well known to be the wrong trans for the cummins
Where can I get a performance built 68 at for 5k. 🤣🤣🤣 Can't touch one in northeast Ohio for under 8500 with a core good up to 650 HP!
98,000 same issue bought deleted transmission died. :(
Let’s hear the truck running
Great information.
People dog them at 160hp you can’t do that leave it at the 30 or 60
Do you have a controller or they just loaded a to your PCM.
When I bought it the delete was just loaded with no controller. I had to buy a new delete kit with the controller after the transmission rebuild.
@@1776concernedcitizen People tell me why so much for a delete kit and they tell me he does it for cheaper and I tell them go to them and this is an example if your PCM,BCM, TRAMISSION MODULE,IGNITION SWITCH ETC ETC ETC goes out and you need to put your truck back to stock you can do it with a (controller) and then program new modules.
I haven’t owned a dodge that had a transmission last past 150,000 miles
The 68rfe isn't a great transmission. Mines still working after the rebuild but I don't trust it. I wish it was an aisin stick shift
I’ve owned Dodge’s since 1995 and never had transmission problems.
Can’t get 85,000 miles Out of a dodge trans
Neal Bowers you just got bad luck then because I see them typically shit the bed from 160-170k miles
The old 48re anyways...
This isn't accurate information..
Lol stock tune adds 10hp
I have the Aisin
Jimmy4x4 Socal
Is that trans any better?
If so does it perform different?
Yes it’s much better torque converter locks up in all gears and stays locked. Great for towing
