    About the engine.
Rotax is today through subsidaries owned by BRP. Originally the company, which is in Austria, was called Lohnerwerke which made trams, and their own engines. In the 70s they started making the engines for Sea-Doos. I am not sure now if BRP ownes about 75% of the Rotax company or if that is old news.
Rotax is also famous for making aircraft engines, engines for small prop planes and UL and LAPL aircrafts.

Definitely agree on fuel mileage! My wife converted 18 months ago from w wheels to a Spyder and the fuel burn is really astonishing, she’s lucky to get 30mpg.

It can happens at times during start up if the battery voltage goes low during cranking.

Bingo! I had that for a bit until I replaced my battery with a higher capacity one. Haven't seen it since. Check your battery connectors as well - my stock battery had to have accessories connected via one set of terminals that the Spyder also used. My new battery has separate terminals for accessories.

Main things I want to see on the can am- Shaft Drive, Faster-better mpg, keyless/proximty start and storage access, and adaptive cruise!

Thank you for another good video Chris. It is always interesting to listen to your opionions and I agree with most of them.
I am not sure if BRP is coming with something new. They really need to fix some of the issues they already have.
What I mean by that is several things I noticed. As example.
    - The new screen on 2024s and up is nice, but monocrhome..... Really? In 2024.
    - Rear tire hard to fill air.... This is really akward as the Spyder is supposed to help people out who have mobility issues and some may not be as likely to crawl around on the ground.
    - Reliability.... I am not only talking about the quality. But there are tons of people who cant get their ride fixed because there a months to wait for replacement parts, there are issues that the dealer mechanics dont know how to fix, nor does Can-Am, lots of issues with bluetooth, electronics, even such simple things as the radio. But one of the worst things is as the bike ages, dealers dont won to work on it anymore. What is that about, just because a bike is 10 years old dealers dont work on it?????
    - Then we have things like not being in the game with USB and charge ports. It is 2024.
    - Backup camera, it is 2024, even Piaggio has backup camera on their scooters. Think a 30 or 40K machine should have it.
I like off-road, and I really liked the idea of something off-road capable on 3 wheel. The Canyon, well, it is a start, but although one may take it on a gravel road, and maybe some tractor roads, dont expect too much, the suspension travel is only 10 inches and some, I belive 10.2 inches. That is nothing for off-road. Off-roaders start complaining on bikes when it is less than 20 inches of travel. The Canyon looks rugged. I both like it, as well as I think it is fugly. Cant make up my mind. Maybe it will grow on me, but the price. No.
    Safe ride to Rhode Island.
    Cheers from Sweden

Enjoyed your video. If they are going to change the engine make it a 1500cc with the same fuel mileage. And yes shaft drive would be great, but as we all know more money.

Just a note, when you fueled up I noticed a fuel truck delivering fuel to that location. I learned many years ago that if they are taking on fuel then it is stirring up the sediments in that tank. I wont buy gas there at that time because of that. I also think the light you saw may have to do with the gas tank being opened and filled up. Be careful and don't over fill it as that can cause various things to happen which we will not get into in this post. Blessings Brother

Just my thoughts... I doubt there will be any RT's that become partially off road capable. There were only 2 lines of Spyders, the F3 (Sporty & Touring) and the RT (Roadster Tour) and now BRP has just added a 3rd Spyder model, the Canyon, which is designed for off-road and on-road. The RT is their On Road RT (Roadster Tour), so in my opinion the RT will remain their On Road Touring Spyder. Perhaps BRP will expand trim levels for the Canyon for different levels of off-roading that you'd like to see, but I don't believe they'll give their Roadster Tour a partial off road design. Also, the F3 is more overdue for a design change than the RT. But since the Canyon just came out, a very significant major change / addition to the Spyder lineup, it may be a couple/few years yet before we see major changes to the F3 and RT.... again, these are just my thoughts.

Change your battery and that should take it away. I bought a 22 RTL and I got several faults. On the Spyder Lovers forum they indicated that the batteries are not up to the correct charging amps from the factory. Apparently they put a cheaper battery 300 CA rather than the 315 which is indicated in the manual.
    Good luck.
After I swapped the battery no more faults.

      @SpyderChrisYT  3 місяці тому

The fault went away immediately, but I’ll have my dealer check the battery next week.

VSS is Vehicle Stability System so it’s a major system but isn’t a problem unless the dash shows it as persistent. It could be as simple as a piece of dirt that went by the speed sensor or brake fluid level or any minor system hiccup- it’s only an issue if it persists. One key issue is if one tire is very low compared to the other two. Ten pounds or so different but would come on only when driving as Can -Am generally doesn’t hold most codes in memory.
TPMS would cost easily another $1K and it is NOT a requirement by the government or any government. Probably not happening until the government requires it and considering all motorcycle sales are less than 3% of sales, I think is the number. I’m surprised you haven’t bought the FOBO system?

  • @chrismills4213

Vss codes could indicate a low voltage condition…. Check to see if there was a fault code recorded…the Spyder will store codes of concern. You can look them up in the display. If codes are recorded, you can look up what condition caused the code. BTW, love the 2025 models.

I agree with you but will add that a battery could provide good starting power but still be defective. The needs of a high ampere current draw starter motor are much different than those of a computer that needs clean voltage. I had this problem with the battery on my 2022 RT L. The dealership technician tested the battery several times with his equipment and it passed each time. I explained to him the differences and that computers work on the basis of ones and zeroes and that clean voltage is a necessity and that if I left after clearing the code that I would be back in a week with the same complaint. I left the dealership with a new battery that day after our conversation. Professionally I am a Certified ASE Master Automotive Technician with decades of experience and was able to apply my training to help him understand something he had not realized. My 2021 has had no battery issues at all but the 2022-23 models were affected by supply problems due to Covid and the batteries originally installed were unavailable for a period of time so alternative batteries were used which seem to be more problematic.

Vehicle Stability System, not sure why it came up but some people are suggesting a low amp's from the battery? I guess you could get it checked with the dealer, some vehicles have a digital plug up these days which can tell you what the fault code means and what's needed to fix it, not sure if that facility is the same for the Can Am?

have a 2024 RT with 900 miles, at a drive thru last weekend, my turn at the order speaker, decided to shut the bike off. The line was long and the fans were running and with my helmet thought it would make my hearing and the order placement better if I turned it off. Hit the kill switch (maybe should have used the key) placed my order tried to start and got the VSS error code. Wouldn't start, turned the key off and back on and got the VSS error again but it started and the error went off and it ran fine. Kind of a scary moment, no way out of line, park brake was on and it was in 1st gear so pushing wasn't an option. Maybe neutral, maybe just turn the key off? Don't know but won't do that again, just leave it run. 1st service this weekend and I was told they have to do a software update as well, part of a recall for the TFT display

the previous generation RT ran from 2010-2019... the current f3 model has been mostly the same from 2015-current. Id say its unlikely that they will make many changes for 2026 on the RT

The Spyder Dealer competency in the Southern US is dismal, took a very large dealer here in the south 5 weeks and BRP to figure out that I had a bad compressor in my Sea to Sky. These young guys have no idea how to troubleshoot issues, I did most of the troubleshooting and sent the data to the dealer to send to BRP. I do 90% of my own maintenance and now I'm going to buy a BUDS tool because the dealer service sucks and at $160 an hour is highway robbery. Good luck if you have a real problem with your spyder.
