Scott Hall has gotta be one of the biggest tragedies in wrestling history. Back in the 90's, being the child of an alcoholic myself, I knew he had a problem and what was happening wasn't staged. At the time, I had no idea of the trauma he had been carrying around his entire life. I only learned about it after watching Dark Side of the Ring. RIP Bad Guy. We miss you terribly.

It's not just Hogan who was supposed to go down...Kevin Nash was to lose to Giant, but at the last minute he pulled out due to an alleged "heart condition". Compile that with Larry Z v.s Bischoff for control of Nitro being an overbooked mess along with Hogan refusing to lose cleanly to Sting. This PPV was supposed to be the beginning of the end for nWo...but they just didn't know when to stop with it and broke them up into two stables.

The finger poke of doom happened the following week, not the night after Starrcade. Elizabeth claimed Goldberg was stalking her, and Goldberg got hauled off to the police station. Hogan showed up and Nash said that if Goldberg wasn’t back in time for their match, he would defend against Hogan instead. The finger poke showed that Nash was still a heel and that the Wolfpack was in on it.
Hogan wasn't a face at the time of the fingerpoke of doom. The NWO had split prior t that with Hogan as head of NWO Hollywood (black and white) and NWO Wolfpack (red and black). After the idiotic Fingerpoke, the NWO reunited.

The drunk/addict angle is tasteless especially if the wrestler in question has real life problem . We've seen it with Scott Hall in WCW , Jake Roberts and Hawk in WWF/WWE and Jeff Hardy just about everywhere he's been . Wrestlers who have problems with alcoholism or addiction be it drugs , gambling or anything else should be taken off TV at least until they can get straightened out . If anyone else is having a problem of this nature remember there are people out there who can and do help therapists , counselors , rehab centers or even DDP .
Kiss Demon was I think Brian Adams (Crush) in the first appearance. The rumors were that the character was immediately scrapped except for already contracted matches which they just tossed onto a jobber and let Crush off the hook. Everyone knew that and so anything the new guy did wouldn't help him any.
The WCW World title doesn’t carry the lineage of the NWA World title (re: David Arquette winning the belt). WCW was a member of the NWA and branched their title off from it. The NWA and WCW shared the same world champion, Ric Flair, until he left in 1991. The titles split after that. WCW made Luger champion, while the NWA still recognized Flair until he joined the WWF. The title was won the following year by Masahiro Chono in a tournament hosted by New Japan Pro Wrestling with involvement from WCW, and the WCW and NWA champions wrestled on the same shows until WCW withdrew as a member of the NWA in 1993.
I remember watching the night they pulled the Scott Hall-vcmits-on-Bischoff thing and genuinely having no idea if what I was watching was a work or not. My thought process was just, "Surely, they wouldn't actually run with this as something pre-planned, would they?" More than the Fingerpoke (which I didn't hate beyond the fact a swerve was obviously coming, and I kinda actually wanted to see Hogan and Nash have a match first), or Nash beating Goldberg (which I _definitely_ didn't hate), or even Arquette as champion...THAT was the moment I knew something was seriously wrong with WCW.
Look there were highs in the run but it’s way more low points than highs. Bischoff even regrets it and Hart himself said they did nothing more with him. His character in WCW was a mess too. It was a missed opportunity given how much a star Bret is at the time, him jumping ship could’ve been the nail in the coffin for McMahon who screwed him over when he left when WCW was red hot and killing WWE. It never happened.
In my opinion, many old WWF/WWE stars that jumped to WCW got old even their auras that showed in their gimmicks not giving chances to younger stars to shine (Billy Kidman, Eddy Guerrero, Rey Mysterio Jr. , Chris Jericho and etc.) which they were given much chances to shine when they jump to WWE long before the demise of WCW. Those given chances were with formulaic gimmicks that tried to imitate the old and new WWF/WWE (Goldberg- Stone Cold, The Giant- Andre The Giant, Mark Jindrak, the next Paul Orndorff and etc.). There are also ridiculous gimmicks introduced in both WCW and WWF/WWE but WCW run with it longer and when WWF/WWE realized that the gimmick did not work then the scrap it immediately.
What made goldberg’s heel turn even worse is it was promoted beforehand as a draw for the ppv. Remember this is russo’s wcw. So schivone said on tv,”tune into the great American bash, someone is turning heel.”
And Bischoff and co. were saying, "There's nothing Vince McMahon can do about it" (the idea was to "one up" the WWF by turning Goldberg heel before Vince could do it with Steve Austin upon his return).
David Arqeutte winning WCW champion was a bad thing But He donated his salary to fallen wrestler families. There is Theory At the time Arqeutte was getting many movie opportunities from Hollywood elites. If he said no to winning a WCW Champion and he would get more push and get more movies and gain more popularity from fans. In addition, Jenna Ortega who Arqeutte mentored her just like Father and Daughter figure in several movies just like Saving Flora and She won't be an actress today. Someday Jenna Ortega would join WWE just like Logan Paul in coming years but NXT Brand and be manager role for Joe Hendry from TNA which benefited for TNA and NXT Brand partnership and she would rehabilitate her acting career and potential bigger roles in baby step. she would learn father figure David Arqeutte's mistake when he was experiencing pro wrestling for the first time. At the time, Warrior was at odds with Vince McMahon in WWF. The common claim was that WCW was hoping to hire Warrior, but had to resort to creating a knock-off (Renegade) when those plans fell through. An alternate version I've seen is that WCW would rather have an easier to deal with knock-off than the real guy anyway. The WWF would try pretty much the same thing itself, to an even more disastrous response, when the WWF claimed to still have Diesel and Razor Ramon (the same "characters" now portrayed by different wrestlers) when Kevin Nash and Scott Hall left for WCW.
Rik flair has always been terrible. His mic skills are shocking with every other word wooo.. the guy wasn't that great in ring either. People who say he is one of the GOATS need to re think their life.
ok so if youre gonna do a critique of something its best to get the facts straight... Hogan was NOT a babyface at any point during the finger poke, Nash was... and it happened two weeks after Starrcade, not the next night... and the angle actually worked despite what WWE would try and tell you, Nitro ratings were still in the high 4s and low 5s all the way up until mid March and then fans started tuning out because they didn't follow the storyline to its proper finish which SHOLD HAVE BEEN Goldberg running through the faction over a couple of months en route to dethroning Hogan for the belt once again... so again, despite what WWE would try and fee you, if you were actually there watching during this time then you'd know the Poke of Doom simply was not the promotion ender they'd like to have you believe... the few months after it were.
intentionally misleading----WCW did not have lineage tracing back to 1905. the national wrestling association and the national wrestling alliance were two different things.
You forgot to include the main event of Starrcade 1997. Hogan vs. Sting had one of the best builds in wrestling history and perhaps the worst payoff in WCW, if not, all wrestling history. The match itself was not great; too short for my liking. And then the finish was pathetic. Bret Hart coming down and trying to stop a screw job (Montreal screw job) from happening again, which was ruined by a botched fast count. You can take all that screwy finish away and the match still wasn't great. It sucked. Wasn't long after that WWE Raw started winning the ratings war. Starrcade '97 sucked
You wanna know how it should've been booked? Sting kicks Hogan's ass all over the ring...but it was the other way around as Hogan beat the dog outta Sting and Sting loses clean to a normal count..only for Bret to come out of nowhere and restart the match, making Stinger look weak in the process while Hogan looks like a million bucks.
Goldberg was boring. all his matches were boring. every match Goldberg was in (except ppv) was a squash. he does like 2 moves and it's over. just like the Great...the AWFUL Kali. and here i thought the in ring fight was actually telling a story but nope. best example, Bret Hart vs Rowdy Piper. we saw Piper, who was the current IC champ and was to drop the belt to the new rising star, Bret Hart, in just 1 match, saw Piper go from being a face, to a heel, to a a**hole cheater, then redeemed himself and lost with dignity. great story telling through kayfabe violence. i rather watch a bra and panties match on WWF than any main event on WCW during their dying days. especially when WCW started having ninjas attacking every week, no seriously, ninjas attacking in the back locker room and office, it was awful.
What about Jeff Jarrett being WCW heavyweight champion. Jeff Jarrett al he was is a midcarder at best. When WCW went out of business Jeff Jarrett created tna wrestling and of course he had to be champion.

Finger poke of doom, Hogan pokes Nash in the eye, they have a match then the boot, leg drop (Hogan would never take a bomb) Dungeon of doom, a serious take, not the saturday morning cartoon type, all heels and Hogan was to defeat em to break to control of the cult. You could say, Dungeon of doom influenced the Brood, Ministry and WYATT family. The dark carnival actually did better than what the dungeon of doom attempted. as for the KISS fiasco, they had the stable, yet they were rivals. Sting, Vampiro, Great Muta and the Demon (and I.C.P and the Misfits had their spots)

It was bad especially 2001. But it is not the worst. I say 1995 WCW was pretty bad. And WWF in 1995 and 1996 were just as bad as that.

At the time, Warrior was at odds with Vince McMahon in WWF. The common claim was that WCW was hoping to hire Warrior, but had to resort to creating a knock-off (Renegade) when those plans fell through. An alternate version I've seen is that WCW would rather have an easier to deal with knock-off than the real guy anyway. The WWF would try pretty much the same thing itself, to an even more disastrous response, when the WWF claimed to still have Diesel and Razor Ramon (the same "characters" now portrayed by different wrestlers) when Kevin Nash and Scott Hall left for WCW.

ok so if youre gonna do a critique of something its best to get the facts straight... Hogan was NOT a babyface at any point during the finger poke, Nash was... and it happened two weeks after Starrcade, not the next night... and the angle actually worked despite what WWE would try and tell you, Nitro ratings were still in the high 4s and low 5s all the way up until mid March and then fans started tuning out because they didn't follow the storyline to its proper finish which SHOLD HAVE BEEN Goldberg running through the faction over a couple of months en route to dethroning Hogan for the belt once again... so again, despite what WWE would try and fee you, if you were actually there watching during this time then you'd know the Poke of Doom simply was not the promotion ender they'd like to have you believe... the few months after it were.

You forgot to include the main event of Starrcade 1997. Hogan vs. Sting had one of the best builds in wrestling history and perhaps the worst payoff in WCW, if not, all wrestling history. The match itself was not great; too short for my liking. And then the finish was pathetic. Bret Hart coming down and trying to stop a screw job (Montreal screw job) from happening again, which was ruined by a botched fast count. You can take all that screwy finish away and the match still wasn't great. It sucked. Wasn't long after that WWE Raw started winning the ratings war. Starrcade '97 sucked
You wanna know how it should've been booked? Sting kicks Hogan's ass all over the ring...but it was the other way around as Hogan beat the dog outta Sting and Sting loses clean to a normal count..only for Bret to come out of nowhere and restart the match, making Stinger look weak in the process while Hogan looks like a million bucks.

Goldberg was boring. all his matches were boring. every match Goldberg was in (except ppv) was a squash. he does like 2 moves and it's over. just like the Great...the AWFUL Kali. and here i thought the in ring fight was actually telling a story but nope. best example, Bret Hart vs Rowdy Piper. we saw Piper, who was the current IC champ and was to drop the belt to the new rising star, Bret Hart, in just 1 match, saw Piper go from being a face, to a heel, to a a**hole cheater, then redeemed himself and lost with dignity. great story telling through kayfabe violence. i rather watch a bra and panties match on WWF than any main event on WCW during their dying days. especially when WCW started having ninjas attacking every week, no seriously, ninjas attacking in the back locker room and office, it was awful.

Finger poke of doom, Hogan pokes Nash in the eye, they have a match then the boot, leg drop (Hogan would never take a bomb) Dungeon of doom, a serious take, not the saturday morning cartoon type, all heels and Hogan was to defeat em to break to control of the cult. You could say, Dungeon of doom influenced the Brood, Ministry and WYATT family. The dark carnival actually did better than what the dungeon of doom attempted. as for the KISS fiasco, they had the stable, yet they were rivals. Sting, Vampiro, Great Muta and the Demon (and I.C.P and the Misfits had their spots)
