You can use fuel injection above the blower, but if you run these blowers dry, with no fuel in them, they get hot. Like 400°f hot and the aluminum changes shape enough to cause the impellers to rub and gall. Having the fuel go through the blower keeps it cool as the fuel evaporates. 13:02 awesome, Awesome, AWESOME Why E-85 (15% gasoline ⛽) because it lubricates moving parts, like electric fuel pumps. Otherwise (100% ethanol) you will be replacing electric fuel pumps each 300 or 500 miles. Helps lubricate roots blowers & intake valves. Running a roots blower, add another 10% gasoline (toal 25% ⛽).

@@richardholdener1727 amen I wanted to ask you one more question I got no response... When you get time witch kit like I said I see them $400 to $600 what's needed.Done.
My question is how much would a 100 jet turn into on a roots blower? They say a 100 shot on a turbo car could turn into a 250 wheel increase ? Keep the vids coming ! Love real world results ! 👍🏻
Man 25 years ago if you had that blower there was nothing cooler. Turbos were not even on the radar. I never even seen a turbo car at the track. Now if you got that blower. It’s just a glorified heat pump on top of your engine. Lol. I still love them. Me and a friend did a 174 on a 331 stroker a couple years ago just for the cool factor. It only made 550hp but it was cool as hell
question, if you wanted to inject nitrous as a top up to the lower state of tune blown motor, would you still use the perimeter plate beneath the carb? and if so would the jetting guide for NOS be the same. I have always assumed in my mind that fuel jets would need to be bigger on either a carb or a NOS plate when being drawn through a blower. My thoughts are that the fuel would wet/soak the blower rotors and so a percentage of fuel in the jet must accommodate for this. Am I overthinking this?
That would be nice to see with the lights off in the dyno room. The nitrous runs have just a touch of flame out the pipe, with 15 pounds and a 200 shot there would be a pretty good show.
Hey there Richard, are you still using the Dyno for you tube examples ? If so would you like to dyno a 377 sbc with a 1471 blower and mechanical fuel injection 16- nozzles & 195 hp nitrous fogger on it ? Bowtie and sbc block , if so please let me know ---it would probably make 1300 hp at the flywheel ,thx, Bill.
A 383 is just a waste of a good 400 crank... I'd like to see a heads up comparison between an original SBC and an LS. Both equally modified and of the same displacement. I'm sure you could fish that up out of your archives easily enough, unless you've already done a video about this, and I missed it.
OK I liked it and shared it, but can you explain to me why you wouldn’t Just use a small block 400 with those little short stubby 556 rods and make more power?
Good old SBC. But... Didn't you make same NA power and more boosted power with a turbo'd 5.3? I know that's comparing apples to oranges. How much did the longblock cost?
Hey Richard I was wondering what would happen if you sprayed nitrous to the supercharged 383? With the roots style blower you stated it liked the cooling properties that the e85 gave so I was just wondering how would a 100 shot with the supercharger act. Also I have a 11.5.1 comp. 383 and i spray 250 shot can i throw a supercharger on it or will i grenade my engine.
Isn't part of the reason that E-85 makes more power is because it takes more ethanol then gas to produce the same hp? Thus displacing air volume with a liquid creating a temporary higher compression ratio? Not knocking e85, just something I thought would be part of this equation. Though, e85 would not be around unless its subsidized. Just saying
@@richardholdener1727 He has a valid point, Richard. It's logical that the extra liquid could raise the dynamic ratio, and contribute some of the power increase.
Taking the 305 carbed engine out of my 83 squarebody and putting in a tbi 350 out of a 94 obs. What intake do I need to get to change it over to carbed?

Why E-85 (15% gasoline ⛽) because it lubricates moving parts, like electric fuel pumps.
Otherwise (100% ethanol) you will be replacing electric fuel pumps each 300 or 500 miles.

Turbo = big power
Blower = badass
2.5l turbocharged Chrysler minivans were blowing the doors off most cars on the road 25 years ago.
I remember those going into the 10s
Richard, any testing with Blowers and Water/Methanol vs none or vs E85? Would have loved to see that same E85 run with 50/50 Methanol/Water injection.
I don't think much gain adding it to E85
question, if you wanted to inject nitrous as a top up to the lower state of tune blown motor, would you still use the perimeter plate beneath the carb? and if so would the jetting guide for NOS be the same. I have always assumed in my mind that fuel jets would need to be bigger on either a carb or a NOS plate when being drawn through a blower. My thoughts are that the fuel would wet/soak the blower rotors and so a percentage of fuel in the jet must accommodate for this. Am I overthinking this?
JETTING IS THE SAME
@@richardholdener1727 thank you for quick reply
I was waiting for nitrous and blower pull on e85.
You would have to speak with westech if you want to dyno that motor
Being a power adder deal I'd think you'd be safe with a 250 shot of nitrous, I bet it would have made some awesome numbers!
And nitrous is cold!
Blower + nitrous + E85? Interesting but sounds like a good way to find the weak spot in the rotating assembly. LoL.! PS. Do it!
And adding N20 would also cool the charge even greater, right???
rcairforceone that’s what I was wondering he used that small of kit why not put it on the blower
Good video. Even with boost on E85 it is no match for even a mild LS with turbos.
Well hello captain obvious. That difference would be the power adder......
BPE supplied the motor and asked us to run power adders
Did you do any test on a small block 400 with stock rods?
Turbocharge 🤔🙏🏾
Good old SBC. But... Didn't you make same NA power and more boosted power with a turbo'd 5.3? I know that's comparing apples to oranges. How much did the longblock cost?
Well to be fair, the 5.3 was running more boost. Waay more.
@@fonzieramirez296 they ran a 5.3 in one of those tests and stepped the boost up to the same level and it made more power than this.
E85 is the ultimate power fuel
Bro I'd love to see the 383 with the 6 71 blower, plus nitrous & e85 I'm building that right now for my 83 elco street /strip
Could you do 350/ 383 with TPI set up? Most people bash them, but they make a ton of torque.
Hey Richard I was wondering what would happen if you sprayed nitrous to the supercharged 383? With the roots style blower you stated it liked the cooling properties that the e85 gave so I was just wondering how would a 100 shot with the supercharger act. Also I have a 11.5.1 comp. 383 and i spray 250 shot can i throw a supercharger on it or will i grenade my engine.
that would be a lot
Love your videos man keep them coming
What is the threshold for a 96 to 99 vortec bottom end?
There' s nothing like the big ol' Weiand sticking out the hood with a pair of 4 barrels sitting on top!
Screw packaging.
Those blower assemblies are heavy...
Agreed, bad ass
Turbo's please, single and twins with nitrous???
When you put E85 in did you need too put larger fuel line and pump in
WE ALREADY HAD ENOUGH
Isn't part of the reason that E-85 makes more power is because it takes more ethanol then gas to produce the same hp? Thus displacing air volume with a liquid creating a temporary higher compression ratio? Not knocking e85, just something I thought would be part of this equation. Though, e85 would not be around unless its subsidized. Just saying
Might be part of it.
its not compression-its charge cooling
@@richardholdener1727 So the extra fuel for E85 is not enough to effect the compression. Got it maestro
@@richardholdener1727 This concept of using fuel to cool down parts to make more power is used on rockets also (Regenerative cooling)
@@richardholdener1727 He has a valid point, Richard.
It's logical that the extra liquid could raise the dynamic ratio, and contribute some of the power increase.
What Jets on the blower carbs and what jets on the E85 can you share that information? ...
Ill check to see if I have jet sizes from those tests
Hey Richard. Can you do a sbc distributor vs coil near plug comparison and see what benefits there are to be had
there would be none at this power level
Subscribed!
Would rather have seen the ebay turbos. More cost effective and it can actually fit under the hood.
Hood?
Just mount the hood higher up, like on stilts or something.
@@fascistpedant758 hood spacers
Realized I wasn't subscribed, sorry Rich!
thnx for fixing it
I'd like to see it under driven on e85 with a small shot of nitrous..
Taking the 305 carbed engine out of my 83 squarebody and putting in a tbi 350 out of a 94 obs. What intake do I need to get to change it over to carbed?
use your 305 carb intake or any dual plane
