Police car hole filling patching painting

- If you've got an old police car, chances are it has holes in it from light bar, antenna, or other police equipment installed. Many send them from the auction with random items filling the holes, such as rubber plugs, silicone, or even a latex glove! In this video I show you how to more professionally fill these holes with metal discs, an epoxy like JB Weld or Gorilla, lots of sanding, primer, and spot putty, followed by a good spray from a spray gun. I also learned that Dupli-color Championship White is a suitable replacement for Ford's Performance "Peelformance" White color.

Good job, J-B Weld can be tricky to work with and great idea with the HVAC tape, thank you for posting this!
Great video once again. I have one hole and I've lived with it for 7 years so far. It's on the trunk and has never leaked. I have an '05 and have wanted to move my factory antenna and plug the quarter panel hole from Ford. I'll definitely use your advice and video for help when it warms up enough here in Texas. About 70° today, gonna be in the 50's Friday, you know how this is. Keep up the good work sir.
That thumbnail is so artsy. It looks like a network TV show DVD cover.
Damn, your paint skills have come a long way.
I'm telling you though, there's gotta be a way to turn the Harbor Freight Green House they're always trying to sell into a dedicated paint booth. Lol
Also, if your air compressor ever craps out, you gotta look into California Ultra Quiet Air Compressors. I got one a year ago, and it been so nice to use.
Nobody can believe how quiet it is when I show them.
paint skills have come a long way, but still a long long way to go. I'm happy-ish with the way this one came out. I'll probably give the trunk a mild sand, buff, and polish to try to take out some of the orange peel. As for my compressor - it's over 20 years old and still going strong, but if I ever need one I'll check that out.
Your creativity is on point man
Great job
thank you
After filling my three roof holes, I took my P71 to a local body shop for an estimate. $1500.00!!!! WTH? They listed 15 hours for body labor and 5 hours for paint labor. Not happening lol.
I used eastwoods no weld hole repair kit. But great video.
I've never heard of that... I'll have to check it out
Any ideas of how to plug the spotlight holes and were to get the plugs ? Homedepot ?
and the side car moldings that have been cut
get them from a town car ?
any ideas Mr Handy
ty bud
Yeah, rubber stopper/ cork at home depot for the spotlight holes
I last purchased side moldings from Rockauto but I think they were out of stock last time I checked. I haven't done a spotlight plug yet, but I have a couple vehicles that I could attempt one. Temporarily all the ones I have they filled with RTV and I didn't mess with it since it isn't leaking
@@WJHandyDad How would you recommend I cover up the spotlight hole once I remove it?
the best way is to install a spotlight :)
@@WJHandyDad lol yes you're right
Great video, Have you used any magnetic material under the holes . Thanks
hopefully I am understanding your question... are you asking if I've ever used something magnetic instead of tape and adhesive? If that's your question, no I haven't. Just done it exactly as shown. Prior to this video I tried to bondo those holes but that never lasted.
@@WJHandyDad Ok thanks I must have 7 holes in my 2011 that someone used bondo and it's coming off , I just was thinking of using flat magnets at the bottum of holes and JB weld as filler and than primer, paint , Than clear coat .
@@MrRockydee07 sounds like that might work too
So how to you get the roof panel down like that
you have to basically remove everything in it's way... A, B, and C pillar trim, anything bolted to the roof. The middle is glued in, but you can usually pull it down enough to fish wires or plug holes without removing the glued portion
What JB weld product did you use?
I prefer the regular one for long lasting results
WJ Weld
WJ man, i have a mistery leak, all my roof holes are patched and painted, and i keep finding water in my ticket light, new windshield installed, and the headliner is not wet, could it just be condensation?
Also my ticket light only goes red, not white, so could it be one of the resistors failed?
pull the ticket light and see if you have water there when you spray with a hose. If water there then pull the headliner and I bet you'll find the leak.
@@WJHandyDad it's riveted, ill drill it up
the ticket light should rotate and come out without drilling. It may have a plastic "tree" clip in the front, but otherwise just rotate it out
@@WJHandyDad i took the white plastic cover off and i see two aluminum rivets in the centre, i didn't want to pry on it too hard, I'll try to twist :)
the rivets hold the ticket light together, they don't hold the light to the roof. I'm pretty sure I have more than one video that shows it being removed. But pretty sure this one would help: ua-cam.com/video/GGC9HRvC-0Q/v-deo.html
Round file instead of hammer next time! 👍🏼
thanks for the tip
I just put back antennas lol
certainly an option, I just prefer the no antenna look
@@WJHandyDad nice and clean!
