I'm sure there will be mods that end up swapping in the old character models, music, along with a reshader, so they probably should just not. The improved framerate and gameplay is worth far more, since that what really hinders the original.
It's just a very vocal minority nitpicking rather than giving actual complaints really. Don't mind them, this remaster/remake is already amazing the more they show it.
I think a lot of us are just worried about the outcome. The combat definitely needed updating, as did visuals, but it feels weird to drastically change faces shapes so much. Like why is Kaine's nose suddenly so much shorter? And why is everyone suddenly so pale? I get it's a style change, but they could have still kept the overall face shape with major improvements. Kaine's my favorite character of all time and one of the things I've always loved about her is she was pretty, but not traditionally pretty if that makes sense so some of these changes feel off. Also I think a lot of people are concerned with them adding new scores instead of keeping old ones, I hope they keep the old ones in with the new. The old OST is what made me try the game, so maybe they're have the option to unlock the OG scores in game. Fingers crossed.
old one had unique character design, proper emotions, eye movements. New one looks ugly, feels more like Nier Automata with Replicant Costume. Automata was great, don't get me wrong, but this remake failed to meet the expectations.
Yes, she's pretty, too bad this thread is people shitting on the game because they want a nostalgia trip, when this game isn't even meant to be a remake, but a version up.
I love how the atmosphere is so much realistic and cold, like in Automata. But yeah, this is different for sure. The new designs looks great anyway and the graphics are top notch !!
Kaine looks pretty in some scenes and in the others she kinda looks like Michael Jackson. I can live with that. BUT her nape is really misaligned. They gotta do smth about the model, either scale her head or connect her neck better. 0:41
I love the new faces, no idea why people are complaining about it, but everyone can have their own opinion. I think it looks great. Though I do prefer Emil’s older model, but it isn’t that big of a change. Super excited!!
1:41 Is it just me or does the old model have way more detail in the clothing? The new model looks kinda off, however the faces are definitely improved. Also the old game seems to have a lot more depth, perhaps because of more aggressive shaders. All the new content looks a bit flat in comparison.
I think the old version used 3D model to build every piece of clothing. And now they use mapping pasted on the body model instead. That explains why the old version has more wrinkles on the clothing but less detail on a plane (like the bandage)
3:03 I miss the old _-undies-_ graphics :( Jokes aside it's really good to see the improvement in graphics. However, I think the creepiness vibe on emil's mask is better in the older version.
why do i feel like kaine lack some kind of emotions compared to the older one, she looks more angry (or smth, I'm bad with words) before. and also 3:03 got nerfed? that's important to her character.. emil's 2nd form kinda lacking details too, i prefer the older one for him. others are fine, I'm looking forward to the remaster/remake, can't wait to cry again.
I would say that they are rather more realistic proportions, the old model is somewhat forced in the way it handles certain curves and lines. They are also roughly the same size when viewed from afar. Also certain old models can be seen with more emotions, especially anger, because the modeling lines are much straighter and harder, while the new realistic models are softer, which naturally lowers a certain intensity in the expressions.
They made the girls look too cute! Kaine's eye color totally changed, the eyes in general seem more cartoony, and Emil's head looks dirtier in original. They are also conspicuously whiter, they were more tan originally. That said, the game still looks great overall so I'm not totally dissing it.
I think is related to character style. The new one seems close or used Automata as references. I'm not so sure but I think they might be using a different team for character designer.
@@JohanIngeborg strange, my feeling is the old ones were generic. Pretty similar faces everywhere and all with this kinda Final Fantasy look to them. Personally I think the new ones are def improved, as they now have an original art style and don't look like characters in any other game except for Nier:Automata, which is part of the franchise anyway. Yes, they seem more doll-like. Each of them. But doesn't this fit?
It's not that the characters are whiter, it's that games in those days had a gross dark filter over them to make up for the fact that Lighting was a shitstorm to work with. It's why games like Resident evil 4 and 5 are buggershit brown, but take off the filter and the game world becomes a vibrant landscape.
I've always loved NieR despite it's many flaws. It was one of the first games I got on the PS3. And I'm tbh so hyped for this since they are using Automata's engine and updating the combat. Nier Automata was perfection as a whole but I love the originals story a lot more. The superior story of the first combined with everything Automata did right, is gonna equal an amazing game!
Japanese devs do seem to have a habit of making their characters look very young or have a "baby face" the remake of shadow of the colossus a good example
@@tomrichards1764 its what japanese wants. They wanted the game to be successful! Not like western game like tlou2. Their face got worse and worse even though is detailed. talk about worshipping ugly faces
Nier looking like 9S will bother me. The producer for Automata showed during the Masterline Statue interview that he thinks of 2B, 9S and A2 as Nier, Emil and Kainé, respectively. So it's Emil who should look like 9S, I'd say. Hopefully it's just an artstyle change and they don't try to justify it. Kainé's face makes sense at least. According to the lore, A2 was designed after Kainé, and 2B after A2, so they all should look alike.
I think the whole reason for Kainè's redesign is due to a line in NieR: Automata in which Emil states that 2B looks a lot like Kainè They were trying to get her close but not quite identical to 2B in appearance in this Remaster
I just hate the new Kaine so much. Seriously, they dolled her up so much SHE LOST HER GOTH MAKE-UP. look at the damn comparisons. She had dark lipstick with dark eyeliner... remake: PINK.
consistent differences: the human characters now have anime-shaped faces like automata had (like at 4:35. kaine has a shorter jaw here) the movement speed is more dynamic like in automata (because seriously, the originals had the stiffer movement) emmisive materials. ie: glowing surfaces
Kainé new eyes are way less expressive, but new graphic is decent in 2021. I think that the most important thing for the remake are quality of life changes like combat and a bit of gameplay. The game was amazing in storytelling and bad/meh in almost everything else. I want to platinum this so bad.
I do think the remake looks better, but I also feel like some good things were lost, like some of the color variety and saturation. Everything has a bluish grey tint to it now. It also seems like the character designs have moved slightly away from a gritty realistic design and closer to an anime design. The faces are prettier sure, but some of the texture and detail is lost. In the end, I think it will be a positive change. The original didn't seem super confident in its art style, but this dreary atmosphere and doll-like anime character design feels distinctly NieR to me.
Only thing I dont actually like is Kaine's eyes. In the original they, maybe unintentionally, had a mad glint all the time, which really fit. Here they seem alot softer
Anyone else think all the new female faces look a bit weird? Like I think they went a bit too "cute" on the new faces while the original and automata went for "mature"
I kind of don't like the lighting in the new version and the tone is so cold. I mean, I know it's a dark game but those warm tones gave it some life. The updated characters are really good though, especially Nier
@@inyrui Yeah, the color is more cohesive in the remake. The materials just look super bland. Whereas the original's materials had more reaction to lighting but not necessarily realistic. I don't know that I would've released this comparison video though if they weren't planning on pushing the graphics more.
This is just my opinion but, you can see that most video games nowadays usually stick to one colour for a specific tint, the original had somewhat of a yellow and greenish tint making it hard on the eyes to adjust to sometimes. The new one may look bland in comparison but I'm glad they did that way, they're sticking to one colour for aesthetic and by colour theory and logic of the game, making it pale just gives me this feeling of emptiness and somewhat pureness in it.
I gotta admit whilst the newer version definitely has better graphics it kinda lakes the charm and uniqueness of the original, the remade version looks like a generic anime to me. Edit: just realised the twitter mob are gonna lose their minds when they see Kaine's incredibly revealing outfit.
I prefer the new style, but there definitely is charm to the janky nostalgic 8th gen look of the original, as well as the more realistically proportioned characters
I honestly like the new look of the game. Nier lost his anime hair gel thank god. Although less colorful it shows the stark apocalyptic setting of Nier. However, I really hope they're able to capture the feelings in Popola. Also, I swear if Kaine isn't voiced by Laura Bailey I'm going to scream like 9S on the bridge.
I feel like Kainé is someone else. They changed her eyes color entirely, and made her look even younger somehow, softer or something. To me she's almost closer to Drakengard's Zero than Kainé. But hey, we'll see how it turns out.
This may be surprising, but its based off the original concept. Remasters are usually like that. I understand the nostalgic attachment to the way things used to look.
Honest opinion incoming. Overall, I think the remake looks amazing. They've already shown some gameplay a while ago and it's clear they've impoved it a lot so we've got that part covered too. The graphics look great. The colors are clearly less warm to adjust to modern aesthetics (and to Automata), but I think it's the kind of thing you only notice in comparison videos like this but while playing you won't mind it at all. It worked great in automata and it's going to work great for this too. The character models also look like they've been improved, especially Nier and Yonah's. Emil might look like a downgrade due to the head looking more smooth & clean but again I think it won't be too noticeable while actually playing the game. I'll be honest, idk how to feel about Kainé's new face. She looks pretty, but also younger and more doll-like. I wish she looked a bit more mature honestly, just like her voice sounds, but i might also be partial due to playing Gestalt, so papa Nier + more mature Kainé made sense together. Maybe younger-looking Kainé makes more sense for brother Nier. Either way, can't wait to hear her curse like a sailor every 5 seconds again. Best girl. I do feel like this brother Nier looks /really/ young too, which I wasn't expecting (i always thought brother Nier looked like a mid to late teens kind of character, while I feel like in the remake he looks like hes barely in his early teens) but that's not necessarily bad, just surprising. Soundtrack's amazing as always, though the new versions of the songs might take some time to get used to. Honestly I hope they give us a way to switch from brother Nier to papa Nier so that western and Japanese fans that loved Gestalt can also experience papa Nier's story in HD, not just brother Nier's. I just feel like there's a different kind of desperation to a father fighting to save his darling daughter compared to a brother fighting to save his sister. I'm going to miss that. (...Though on the other hand, if you've ever read any of the extra stories that weren't in the game itself, brother Nier has done some really desperate shit for Yonah's sake, including prostituting himself to a slimy old man just to be able to pay for her medicine, so I guess that makes up for it...) But at this point I'm just rambling. I love this game with all my heart. Has anyone else preordered the collector's edition of the remake as soon as it was announced or is it just me? I can't wait!
Much narrower colour spectrum with a lot less contrast between the lights and the darks in the scene. Shadows no longer look as good as they did in the older game and everything just seems greywashed. A lot less vibrance and smaller details lost as a trade off for nicer models. Emil's face no longer looks as nice without the harsher shading.
Also. Unrelated, however: Bioware: we are going to edit out Miranda's but shots because reasons. Yoko Taro: HAHA! Kaine in lingerie go brrrrrrrrrr God bless this man.
The color palette and tone is more desaturated. It looks like they're making its art style match Nier: Automata's grey look.

2:52 Who else thinks Devola looks pretty?
on the left that is, new one is ugly
old one had unique character design, proper emotions, eye movements. New one looks ugly, feels more like Nier Automata with Replicant Costume. Automata was great, don't get me wrong, but this remake failed to meet the expectations.
@@blueice1364 especially the desert location just a lazy copypaste and faces looks horrible

They all look more dolland childish. I feel like every main character is a 10 yo and I really don't like this choice of design.

The New running animation made the game more tense as it is. I'm loving it.
1:41 Is it just me or does the old model have way more detail in the clothing? The new model looks kinda off, however the faces are definitely improved.
Also the old game seems to have a lot more depth, perhaps because of more aggressive shaders. All the new content looks a bit flat in comparison.
Nah, I think it's lighting fault. Look at 0:41, remastered bandage on the neck looks like have more details too.
See also 2:09.
I think the old version used 3D model to build every piece of clothing. And now they use mapping pasted on the body model instead. That explains why the old version has more wrinkles on the clothing but less detail on a plane (like the bandage)

lmao, I understood what ya meant by nerfing.... xD
lmao i didn't notice 3:03, that's true man, they nerfed kainé can't believe it
I would say that they are rather more realistic proportions, the old model is somewhat forced in the way it handles certain curves and lines. They are also roughly the same size when viewed from afar. Also certain old models can be seen with more emotions, especially anger, because the modeling lines are much straighter and harder, while the new realistic models are softer, which naturally lowers a certain intensity in the expressions.
@@mythicalsalmon3621 they look more like supermodels
Just gotta say that Voices track you picked for this video was perfect....
What song is it?
They made the girls look too cute! Kaine's eye color totally changed, the eyes in general seem more cartoony, and Emil's head looks dirtier in original. They are also conspicuously whiter, they were more tan originally. That said, the game still looks great overall so I'm not totally dissing it.
Yeah, the original had a certain grittiness to it that i don't see in the new one. Was a big part of the charm, in my opinion
I think is related to character style. The new one seems close or used Automata as references. I'm not so sure but I think they might be using a different team for character designer.
Yeah, old ones had much more character in it, while new are kinda like generic anime girls. Deff underage.
Ironically the original looks better in some cases. The character's faces mostly looked more mature.
Japanese devs do seem to have a habit of making their characters look very young or have a "baby face" the remake of shadow of the colossus a good example

Kaine's face looks more serious and angry in the original version but the remaster made it even better and more beautiful than ever
So nobody gonna point out how Brother and Kaine look like they got 9S and 2B faces?
possibly reused those models. y'know, Kaine gotta have those polygons
Maybe this is on purpose, to make another link between the games
In some theory, A2 (or say, No.2 series) was "manufactured" based on Kaine's outfit and memories. though it has never been confirmed officially.
@@rikamayhem 9s got young nier's clothing 2b got kaine's and a2 got older nier's clothes. or have there been other dlc outfits?

consistent differences:
the human characters now have anime-shaped faces like automata had (like at 4:35. kaine has a shorter jaw here)
the movement speed is more dynamic like in automata (because seriously, the originals had the stiffer movement)

I said it was because the color has more dynamic than ever before plus with accurate contrast making it like it was too good (the new version).
i think the lighting has more to do with it. in some scenes they look almost identical.
Kainé new eyes are way less expressive, but new graphic is decent in 2021.
I think that the most important thing for the remake are quality of life changes like combat and a bit of gameplay.
The game was amazing in storytelling and bad/meh in almost everything else.
I want to platinum this so bad.
Looking at Devola, I didn't know you can have a glow-up more than once
前作をps4でできるなんて贅沢だ😭
Thanks for making it.
Here they seem alot softer
they using dynamic eyebrows that can change shape with every kaine expression.
The characters in the remaster version look a bit too young. Could be a little bit tougher, IMHO.
Anyone else think all the new female faces look a bit weird? Like I think they went a bit too "cute" on the new faces while the original and automata went for "mature"

Original has better use of color. The enhanced has better graphics.
i'm actually glad those sickly greens are gone. everything on ps3 was green lol. the greys fit the world much better
@@inyrui Yeah, the color is more cohesive in the remake. The materials just look super bland. Whereas the original's materials had more reaction to lighting but not necessarily realistic. I don't know that I would've released this comparison video though if they weren't planning on pushing the graphics more.
The original looked yellowish like pee. Idk how that is better use of color!
7:55 Dunno why you even have to add this, but I noticed how they nerfed them a bit.
Great comparison. I go against the grain, apart from the frame rate and the improved gameplay, I prefer the original.

@@Lilithsblackm00n That would explain the shift to more gray environments too. And the art style change of the eyes.
It surprised me too, but looking at her official art, age etc. This new version makes more sense. She's not meant to be a grown woman.
(...Though on the other hand, if you've ever read any of the extra stories that weren't in the game itself, brother Nier has done some really desperate shit for Yonah's sake, including prostituting himself to a slimy old man just to be able to pay for her medicine, so I guess that makes up for it...)
But at this point I'm just rambling.
Did you atleast play with color in shader like reshade or something? Or like everything. narrower chroma and luma? Are you fking kidding me?
