One of the best of all their movie parodies. You can see Joe Flaherty walking on his knees at 7:32, but it's all part of the low-budget charm of season one. What a great show!
Another early example of the kind of long form, detailed, absurd parodies they did so well in later seasons. This one and the Ben Hur episode really stood out.
Thank you so much for posting this! " I"m going to hit a home run for you kid". I seen to recall the whole episode had a lot of dummies thrown around, one of the best!
SCTV trivia moment: this episode marks the very first appearance (well, vocal anyways..get off my back!!!) of the great Guy Caballero. And RIP Moe...guess those Lutonians finally got to him... );
Geez, Flaherty really looked the part. I thought his knee-shoes and baggy pants were overdone until I saw a picture of the real Toulouse-Latrec. Man, SCTV should have been called parody central. No one did it better, nor invested more into a true parody. I honestly think they were and are the comedy standard. No one is even close. Well, Monty Python had their moments too. But SNL - naaaah.
Help me SCTV fans, please !! There is a scene where Guy Caballero is watching something he doesn’t like and starts saying,,, “ I don’t like this I don’t like this I’m a scared ,,,,,,,,,, then rubs his hands all over all over his face while making booba booba bluba bluba sounds………. I thought it was the ZONTAR episode but I’m mistaken because I watched Zontar on my DVD looking for that scene a few years ago and my buddy watched it a few days ago online looking for it and it ain’t there. HELP if you can. It’s buggin’ me. ANY info. at all would be greatly appreciated.
Still hopin' for some clarity 2packs4sure ? That would be "The Night of The Prime-Time Stars" ( Jamie Farr, Lorne Greene, etc, etc ) where a ball of energy from TV past starts appearing as Ralph Kramden and Arlene Francis ( etc ) and zaps Ed Grimley and Gus ( etc ) in a Poltergeist fashion. Just rewatched it less than a week ago !
Anybody know the name of the background music at the start of Dialing for Dollars? I remember it from years ago, but have never been able to identify it.
I mean, he's perfect in GHOSTBUSTERS, great in STRIPES, and spot-on in AS GOOD AS IT GETS, but writing indeed was his superpower. His daughter Violet said he ultimately didn't like acting as much as his actor colleagues.
R.I.P. Joe Flaherty. 😢
Joe Flaherty...so effing hilarious. "Get out! Come back! Get out and come back" God, I wish he was a star. Deserved it.
One of the best of all their movie parodies.

ahhahaha
And the same 2 guys that were in Shake&Bac are here as well, "Yoo Hoo,Monet, Degas Yooo Hoo!
The music at the beginning of Dialing For Dollars is called 'Syncopated Clock,' and it's by Leroy Anderson.
Brilliant show. I grew up in the 80s watching this with my dad. So many memorable characters and skits.
You can see crew member visible a few times helping Flaherty walk on his knees. See 03:28 to 03:50
I love Joe Flaherty's disgruntled schtick and paper-thin patience in the many roles he plays; it's practically a trademark acting trait.
I lost my crap at the "Long Legs" part when I saw this episode XD

It's strange seeing comedy from an era in which people had a basic familiarity with art history-- just enough to get the jokes, at least!
Rest in peace Dr Spangler, you are missed!
SCTV seems to have been a launch pad for several folks. A great piece of televised comedy! Thank You.
" The tablecloth is in the Lou,ra,ra,rah " LOL
"Idiot! We're all gay!"
"I forgot!"
everyone is, or so I queer
"I can never love a fuzzy-face shrimp!"
Moe Green was hilarious. In one show he was kidnapped by terrorists. The station refused to pay the ransom note.
still better than ANYTHING on TV today!!!
Who is Babu!? WHO IS BABU?! I AM BABU!!
The funniest fucking sketch ever!
Gawd, I still can't believe that Harold is dead. :-(

Guy (Gui Goi Goo) Caballero ain't dead, he just be resting terminally like
Wasn't Joe the tallest of the SCTV cast members so him playing a little person kinda makes it a funnier joke

Yoo hoo! LMAO
another lost gem
or an Unknown Pleasure as it were...but we remember when we were young
The funniest fucking sketch of all time!
SCTV was great. These days, the shows have been dumbed down ....

1:13: a silly walk if'n I ever done sawr one...BRAVO you lunatiCanucks!
Harold Ramis was far better behind the scenes as a writer. He just doesn't quite work as a performer, to me. But the skit is pretty good.

He is a hoot in the sketch ‘The Grapes Of Mud’ as Joe Flaherty’s boss.
