I'm not from Leutonia, but i identify as someone whom is. The 8 people who dislike this video am probably from Plutonia, Plutonia always been a very poor country & jealous of our success in Leutonia. Leutonian women are best looking in all europe & our football team is best in world. Our national dish is cabbage rolls & coffee & our national bird is the beaver. Our flag is a puking vulture on yellow field. Come to Leutonia & see glorious revolutionary tire fire of 1937, still going strong!
What an event!! Candles of the world, Melonville's busiest intersection and a week of cabbage rolls and coffee. it just doesn't get any more glamorous! Lucky ladies!
Thanks for posting thisI havent seen it since it ffirst aired in 1983 and ive been looking for it on UA-cam..That part where Candy dances the polka with each of the contestants while Levy takes an accordian solo kills me.
If you didn't grow up in Ontario during the late 70's to 80's you're missing out on a whole 'nother level of irony here. If you do remember Walter Ostanek's Polka Time on tv tho, SCTV completely captures the low production values & sauerkraut-&-accordion perfection.
When I saw Miss Glass Fixtures (?),cleaning the toilet, this memory, came flooding back. Five stars, even if nuthin' blowed up real good....Thanks for posting. :D
Thank you, thank you, thank you to whoever uploaded this! I was a major SCTV fan back in the day and the Happy Wanderers were perhaps my favorites, but I don't remember this one. It's great (however you say that in Leutonian 😉)!
Took me SOOOOOOO many years to find this. I couldn't find it in any of the compilations. Nobody believed it when I tried to describe it - nah, that never happened! "A pretty girl is like a melody"
Yosh and Stan Schmenge remind me of Steve Martin's and Dan Aykroyd's characters on "Saturday Night Live" -- Georg and Yortuk Festruk, the "Two Wild and Crazy Guys" from Czechoslovakia.
@@gaywizard2000 -- In 1721 the French writer baron Montesquieu wrote "The Persian Letters" in which two fictional Persians toured France and commented on what they saw. Not bad teeth necessarily, they just did not spend money on Porcelain.. Many used Gold , just looks funnier blacking out the tooth .. lmao ... most of front tooth damage were accidents . Rough living back in the day , so many different ways to chip or crack a front tooth .
I got to ask, is there a Leutonia? Anybody know, anybody, anybody..? I heard it was the first of the Warsaw Pact nations to break away simply because the Russians forgot it was there in the first place, but I don't know where it is.
Using the clues given, I place it somewhere in the vicinity of Hungary, Romania, and Ukraine. However, it's safe to think that it can't be part of Moldova. No one in that country knows how to make a decent cup of coffee.
I got a kick out of this. The women in the skit looked like they were having a good time. The fourth runner up reminded me a bit of Madge Blake, who had a great sense of humor.
Even in the neighbour country -Plutonia - there are beautiful girls. Some have got 6 Fingers on each hand, or 1 eye on the forehead. But all beauties, who don't need to hide. Love women with moustaches!
the tall one doesn't even have high heels on . when i was younger it never bothered dating a tall females or having taller girl friends than me and I was 5'9" not exactly short back in the day . i find it strange, maybe sort of an insecurity thing that it seems most males want a female partner who is shorter than them
still better than anything on TV today!!
FInally - I FOUND IT!!! Nobody believed me about this. Pure gold
This show was absolute Comedy GOLD... Just Genius .. brings back such good Memories ... more comforting than some good Cabbage Rolls and Coffee..
Yosh was a true renaissance man. Clarinetist, beautiful singing voice, light on his feet and such a presence on stage. Riveting!
😂😂😂

The Candles of the World Show was stunning.
It was really somethin'.

Brilliant! There were cable access channels in Chicago at that time where this would have played as news.
Do you remember Frankie Yankovic and his Polish Rythem Kings ?
@@RWildekrav66 And Vlasta!
Amazing how these guys could stay in character
Even on TV Interviews , and doing improv in character .. awesome talents , both of them.

"Sinky's Green Suspen-ders!"
We still have a show like this in Buffalo, NY in 2020.
Plus all the cultural clubs pageants.
or Polka Varieties in Cleveland
@@vilveyachke5103 Long live polka, I say.
Having lived in Chicago, I've been to many of these.
Same here - Milwaukee. And of course, it has to take place at the "Ethnicity-American Hall". Next door to the Orthodox church.
@@gregoryschmidt1233 same in Pittsburgh!
Every Saturday Nite !
The way Miss E-Zee parking hiked her dress up!
Wa wa wee wa!
"Leets hear it for Stan schmenge!" ... "ok thats enough"

Yes, it was Miss Glass Fixtures.
I spent a week in Leutonia last year. They have running water now and indoor toilets are right around the corner.
Loved it. Again! Seen it so many times!! There's no ridicule in this portrayal. We can just love them.
And there are the two losers who will just go home... God I miss SCTV and the brilliance of that show.
John Candy and Eugene Levy, you guys were the absolute best.☕️
Cabbage rolls and coffee for a whole week ?
Now we are talking about something.
I feel like dancin after eating my cabbage rolls and coffee.
That's some mighty fine toe tapping music !
"End ve'd like to t'ank Mrs Vilve Yatchke for de cabbage rolls-"
"End de coffee!"
I'm pulling for Miss Glass Fixtures.
Brian Newell I don`t know.. I think Miss Yelnick`s Spiced Meats got her beat!
Next year I hope to have my daughter enter this pageant and be a runner up

You know you're in the home of someone from Leutonia when you see the cabbage candles.
It is hard to say "No" to anything from the Old Country like this.
Stan’s sideways glances are priceless.
Truly a great Victory Walk!
I never noticed that Stan pronounces his surname slightly different that Josh. They do this in every skit.
Took me SOOOOOOO many years to find this. I couldn't find it in any of the compilations. Nobody believed it when I tried to describe it - nah, that never happened! "A pretty girl is like a melody"
Why didn't they show the petal plucking race? That's been the center piece of the Miss; Leutonia Pageant since its inception.
Thanks for sharing these!! Brilliant!!!
Stan especially is really "on" in this-- he really was Mr Showbiz.
I really dig stan's swinging accordion I wish they did a full recording of the song!
went to Leutonia last summer. The cabbage rolls and cofee were em em god.
Reminds me of Berwyn Illinois
And parts of Cicero .
I've had the privilege of knowing one of the Houby Queens of the 1970's too! A friend of my wife's.
Serious housecleaning as the Talent Competition. Keep smiling girls!
Yosh and Stan Schmenge remind me of Steve Martin's and Dan Aykroyd's characters on "Saturday Night Live" -- Georg and Yortuk Festruk, the "Two Wild and Crazy Guys" from Czechoslovakia.
Except they weren't funny and it comes off as making fun of immigrants.

These guys really got into their characters.
You can’t do any of this today.
Yes, you can.
Yeah, but the guys would be wearing the dresses and cleaning the toilets.
Genius. Levy soooooooooo underrated. Miss John candy.
I miss John Candy, and this show!
I can almost taste the homemade cabbage rolls and coffee.
3:56 Not gonna rinse the dish?
Lawrence Welk would approve 🤣
Love it, love it, love it.
Thanks for sharing!
"It is Leutonian tradition that the women are happy in their (domestic) work!"
Indeed. They say the poem Of Cabbages and Kings was inspired by the Shmenge Brothers.
Yosh is so light on his feet!
The saddest thing is that I really liked the accordion solo...how can I be helped?
ua-cam.com/video/N4HyyrSC-IQ/v-deo.html
I did, too. I'm old and like instrumental music!
candles of the world...
I caught a reed when he threw it in the audience, that man could blow a clarinet like nobody's buisness
The sponsors names on the sashes cracks me up. My vote is for Miss E-Zee Parking.
Megan Smith played Miss E-Zee Parking. She was on a CBC Radio comedy show called "The Norm".
Rosemary Dunsmore played the blonde "loser" who was eliminated in the first round.
I would like a Leutonian mail order bride.
I ordered a Leutonian mail order bride. The shipper forgot to punch air holes in the box. Good luck trying to get a refund or replacement...
Good luck getting all the stamps off
I gotta visit Leutonia one of these days. The women are absolute babes!
There is something so endearing about the Schmenge Brothers!
Leutonian tradition that women are happy in their work !
Hysterical!
A four way tie! 😃😃😃
I love the depiction of eastern Europeans, warts and bad teeth.
Not bad teeth necessarily, they just did not spend money on Porcelain.. Many used Gold , just looks funnier blacking out the tooth .. lmao ... most of front tooth damage were accidents . Rough living back in the day , so many different ways to chip or crack a front tooth .
I thought oh they’re really going for it with a tie for 3rd Runner Up - no one would see that coming.
Can’t be beat!
Those two were absolutely nuts! Lol
Distant relatives of the Sid Dithers family ??
Who else could it... be...the hosts of Miss Leutonia pageant but the Shmenge Brothers.
Who is that Miss E-Zee Parking? Gorgeous!
Miss "EZ parking" has a double-meaning. If you know what I mean Stan?
Brilliant fun this stuff.
I would take these women over these 304s today!!
Leutonia....it’s on the dark-side of the Carpathians. 🐼
I vote for Ms. Eee Z Parking.
I’m a bit disappointed that Linsk Minyak didn’t make an appearance.
I'll take Miss Lighting & Roofing!
Like an epidemic or something, with the four of them LOL
But it turned out that the winner had posed for Leutonian Playboy, and was disqualified LOL
When asked how this came to their attention, Yosh and Stan cited an anonymous informant. Some of us remain unconvinced.
hahah so goofy i freakin love it
What happened to Miss Wash Your Wool?
Miss E Zee Park is my favrit. This pretty woman is happy wanderer of Spain Madrid. La mujer es bonita, si.
I got to ask, is there a Leutonia? Anybody know, anybody, anybody..? I heard it was the first of the Warsaw Pact nations to break away simply because the Russians forgot it was there in the first place, but I don't know where it is.
It's a made up country. Kind of a mix of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia
Of course there is a Leutonia. It's where the Shmenge Brothers were born, and it's the birth place of the artificial Christmas tree.
Visit Leutonia if you can. It is really something. If you cannot find it immediately, it is located on the dark side of the Balkans.
