      Hahaha yes, I found it when I tried to resize the window and accidentally clicked on it. Thank you so much for this application!!! BTW, I really respect how you handled it with ResetXPDR. 👏 Do you have any thought on how to apply the two tweaks settings? (terrain vs objects balanse and te aggessiveness slider) Cheers Mike

    • @somewhereelsestudio6342
      @somewhereelsestudio6342 4 місяці тому +1

      @@VirtusimThe Terrain vs Object preference is only used when the tool decides that it is time to give the sim more load... as the average FPS is high enough to warrant it. Deciding which of the LOD values to change is based mostly on the two ranges (that you, as the user set up in the Limits menu), and the relative position within those limits that the sim currently resides. If that sounds like fuzzy logic, it sorta is.
      It's trying to emulate the decision that you might make if you (as a human) would look at those 2 options and have the job of: "You only have one coin to spend on one of these options. How would you spend it?"
      The priority slider gives you one last chance to sway that decision a bit. So if you slide that all the way to the left, it's going to almost ignore Object LOD values and load up Terrain LOD. Slide to the right gives a preference to Objects. Which is why by default it's 2 ticks closer to the left. We know that the more noticeable change is going to be to add some Terrain detail. But we can't ignore Objects, so it's a fuzzy human decision making algorithm that arguable can be ignored. But it's there if the "Tweaky" side of you needs to tweak.

    • @somewhereelsestudio6342
      @somewhereelsestudio6342 4 місяці тому +1

      @@VirtusimThe Aggressiveness slider is tied to the "Auto-set low limit using AGL" option. This will likely not make the cut to any production version. That's primarily due to the fact that the normal adjust-as-you-fly based on Actual Graphics Load is better and more accurate anyway. but I have it there because it's currently in the "let's test it to see if it has value" stage.

      @ard1400 you’re welcome. I didn’t empty the shader cache this time, but yes, that works very well. Know that when I’m recording in VR it will cost me about 5fps. That’s why I was on the low side of the fps in the video. 🤜🏽

    Hi - I just tried this and it did improve the smoothness of my flight around the NYC area by KLGA, but I'm not understanding how you're supposed to get it to show up in VR? I have a Quest 2 but there's nothing in the Oculus software that I'm recognizing will help the UI appear for me in my headset when I'm in VR mode. Any ideas?

    • @somewhereelsestudio6342
      @somewhereelsestudio6342 4 місяці тому

      Yes. I know of 2 ways to get a window in VR, and that's not counting the myriad of 3rd party tools that also claim to do this. But it's so much easier to show you than tell you. I'll try to give you the steps here, but I have to make up words for things I don't know the proper terminology for. :)
      Step 1: connect your quest to the computer. I connect via Quest LInk Cable. I don't know if VD looks different so you might have to translate.
      2. From that first screen should see the whatever your startup screen is.. and a "ribbon menu" at the bottom. On the far right of that ribbon menu is a Plus Sign. Click on that
      3. From there, you can select the window you want to bring into VR. If SmoothFlight is already open, you can select it.
      4. You can resize it, bring it closer or further away from you, change the angle...etc. PUt it roughly where you think you'll want it in the VR space. Don't obsess over this step. It doesn't have to be perfect. You can ( and likely will) change it later, but for now, you just need it visible and not blocking the majority of the screen.
      5. Important step: On the lower taskbar of that window you'll see a pin. Hovering over it will bring up the tooltip: "Pin to Experience". Clicking that pin makes the window stay visible when you go into VR. These 5 steps will take you a total of 5 or 6 seconds once you've done them a few times. Just consider it part of your checklist.
      6. After you're in VR and have yourself seated and are done moving yourself around to make it look like you're properly sitting in your chair... (and you know we have to do this every flight), click the flat oculus button on your right controller. This will put you in a sort-of halfway mode. Half in VR and half in the setup screen. From here you can grab the floating window and finish placing it where you want it. Then click the oculus button to return to VR and you're good to go.
      7 Making changes to that windowed app is still a bit klunky.. as it's not actually in VR with you. Just the face of the screen is projected there. So in order to interact with that app, you have to either:
      a) Briefly take your headset off and interact on your 2d screen or
      b) Alt-Tab in VR to make the app become the "In-focus" app.
      Make changes, and then Alt-Tab back into MSFS
      Yes, that's a klunky way. but you're really supposed to set it and go fly...not have to tweak it. The point of automatically adjusting settings is so that doesn't interrupt the enjoyment and immersion of the flight. But if you do feel the need to watch it work, then I suggest using the Mini-Mode. You can either resize the app manually or click on the tiny silver button in the upper left. Then drag that tiny screen into VR with you and stick it unobtrusively on the dash somewhere Like it was a post-it note. :)
