    I thought if you had a speedy internet connection, rolling cache should be off. Has that changed? The Nvidia shader cache is a must and something I have been doing on a regular basis. To fully delete the shader cache, you should also do that from Disk Cleanup as there is a section named DirectX Shader Cache as even after clearing the folders under %appdata%\LocalLow\NVIDIA\PerDriverVersion\DXCache and %appdata%\Local\NVIDIA, there will be cache left to still clean.

      I did forget the disk cleanup... crap.. I did it I just forgot to mention it...
      The other directory I did not know about and will be doing! :)
      And no you were right about the cache I reversed it lol..
      Now I sound like an idiot lol

      What I wonder about is how much your nvidia shader cache should inflate before you delete it? Mine is about 60mb, while I have allowed it to get to 5gb in the settings. I don’t see how 60mb are creating this bottleneck, nor how can it actually be this low?

    This is like the 10th video from a MSFS youtubers I'm seeing in the last few days talking about clearing the rolling and shader cache. Do you guys all just copy off one another?
    I also don't understand why this is suddenly such a hot topic. Not to sound smartass, but this has been known literally for years and recommended after each sim or content update. If you got to the forums and search for stuttering this has for a long time been the no 1 recommendation.

  • @XYQW7

    Funny it took the community of YT MSFS streamers that long to realize this "tricks". In the official forums it is old news that the sim runs mostly better without any rolling cache and that cleaning it (if used) from time to time but certainly after each SU or WU prevents issues. Same goes for the DX shader cache. So for me, this vid is a nice reminder of what I anyway do after each SU, WU or nVIDIA driver release. Probably the most important message of this vid is however another one: please restart your computer. Many, many people have issues with "tricks" as the one shown here because they never restart their rig. You can not restart your computer too often and with a decent build, it should also not take more than 1 Minute to do so.

    Dude ... this might (literally) be a game changer for me. I have been griping on my channel about the insane amount of popping in some mountains around the world. Cache-clearing aside ... I bet just tweaking the in-sim RC settings might be the curative elixir I've needed all along. Thanks for passing it along!

  • @countdavis
    @countdavis 10 місяців тому +1

    I have been doing these steps for months now and I do not experience any stutters in MSFS.
    There are also many other tweaks on YT which can help the sim run better. Today I carried out a disk clean on my drives and deleted 18GB. That was cool.
    In-game, I turn the rolling cache off .

      Better to stick with a LOD of 100 (as the difference is so slight above that and it kills fps), and instead use it to just lower LOD below 100 when your fps drops below a threshold of say 25fps for say 30 secs before reverting back to 100.
      I set mine to lower LOD from 100 by 30 if fps drops below 25, and it keeps it at a LOD of 70 then for 30 secs before raising it back to 100.

    I haven't been getting micro stutters. I use MSFS Enhanced Map application but I don't use Google Maps. You have the option to use Bing maps and that might sound counter intuitive but hear me out because I think there are a few reasons that might put people off using Google Maps and I know this from my own experience.
    I tick the box for High LOD enabled and the box for High LOD enabled only when flying. This makes the scenery look way better out of the box but the best bit is that the EM app uses it's own cache which you can empty, or set to whatever value you like Zero being unlimited and you can switch off rolling cache altogether in the game.

Comments if anyone out there changed their monitor from a 4K Monitor at 60HZ to a Gaming monitor at 144HZ and Got better Frame rates and smoother game play.?

      Many of the 'fixes', such as this one, seem to be more like housekeeping of rubbish that has built up over time especially if you've not had a recent fresh install. Could/should this clean-up be automated as part of each sim update I don't know. Other fixes would seem to fall into the optimization/enhancement category and often centre around Nvidia settings.

      Just to say i followed these tips and it worked for me like a charm ! . I agree mfs is badly optimised , they were lazy relying on a single core to do all the heavy lifting .. but deleting all the cache does make it alot smoother … apparently in the mfs 2024 they have optimised the cpu load across all cores for a more smoother experience .

      @@OverkillSimulations hah. I think it's because I only just started MSFS2020 about 3 weeks ago... As soon as I googled my stutter problem I found like 20 videos just like this one and forum posts as well. Every video claimed "DO THIS AND ITS FIXED!!" and of course 1,000 comments saying "it worked THANK YOU".. Yet nobody is coming back to these comments / videos explaining the fix is completely temporary and there's basically no escaping this issue, the only real solution is turn off rolling cache completely and either waste your bandwidth / data cap perpetually, or turn off scenery completely and play MSFS in gimpy scenery mode without all of the high res imagery. All of that Nvidia cache clearing is basically a waste of time. The issue is they didn't engineer it to run on multiple core CPUs correctly so heavy disk I/O happens when the rolling cache fills and its trying to clear out old scenery while loading new scenery at the same time, this hangs up the main sim thread because they didn't figure out how to parallelize their code properly.
      As someone who just came into the game now, I'm deeply disappointed Asobo couldn't figure this out after 4 years...

    So you basically clean the cache and gain temporary improvement, only for it to come back - what's stopping it from happening again ? Sorry but this is absolute nonsense advice. You only get smooth frames with high end hardware that can keep up the the graphical demands of titles like FS2020, and that is just a fact. Anything else is just snake oil.
    The only suggestion I have for folks with older hardware is to try the Frame Gen mod. THAT does work, at the expense of some VRAM ( DX12 only ) and some minor graphical artifacts on menus.

    • @OverkillSimulations
      @OverkillSimulations  10 місяців тому

      That is completely inaccurate statement. This improves performance across most titles especially following updates to drivers or the sim as cache files change and older garbage is left side.
      I don't usual make improvement videos if you look at my channel history. It has to be something that actually works.
      I'm genuinely suggesting doing a bit more digging into shader cache and what the impacts of old data is.
      I noticed a significant increase in smoothness not fps.. which is why I made the video.
