I copied your settings and I’m amazed how good this is. Like you do I had everything to the max. I have a stormforce pc 4090 and a pimax crystal. This is the best visuals ever thank you for all your hard work.😁😁😁
Always glad to help mate 😊😊
Splendid helpful video! And starting a series as you suggested at the end of the video would be most welcome. I'm a retired airline captain with almost 20000 hrs flying in real life, settling down now with my VR setup. I started to become a fan of your positive and honest videos, keep going Steve!
That's an incredible amount of real world hours. It's such an honour to have you here watching my little videos thankyou!
Thank you so much, this guide helped allot 👍
Can relate to every word you said from 8:25 including the Mrs needing some attention because you’ve been to busy on the sim 😬🤣🤣
lol cheers mate. I think most of us can relate to this :D
Really helpful THANKS.
You're welcome!
And yes, love videos on optimal settings in VR, especially for the PIMAX Crystal!
noted. Thanks for your comments and support :)
Thanks for taking the time to give these helpful hints! Have found VR not as good since the latest update.
Nice one Steve. It’s always nice to double check my settings against yours, as we have similar systems, and you’re always bang on with your suggestions 👍
Cheers mate 😊
Steve thanks for great video. I adjusted some of my settings based on this specifically dropped lod downAlthough I only have a lowly quest 2 I then did a test from London City to Heathrow in the A2A. Held 42-47 frames all the way until touchdown dropped to 35, although London did look like it was suffering from a nuclear air bust 😮 it was very smooth. I am tempted to upgrade to the crystal light. But will I see much benefit with my 3080rtx ? 😢 cheers
Thank you for the videos. Do you prefer link over vitual desktop and why?
Fantastic stuff Steve. Identical system to yours and at native resolution with DFR on with the crystal and reasonable settings , I hover around 32fps on the ground and 36/37 in the air in the MD80. But i have to tell you, the FMS text looks so damn sharp. Need to experiment downscaling a bit to give myself some headroom. The one thing that doesn’t seem to do anything for me is the turbo mode on openxr toolkit. Keep these coming my friend.
Thank you mate!..i too used your settings, I have the 4090 And i913900k as well..I'm getting 55 -60 fps.. I have Pimax Crystal.. question..do you use smart smoothing or half frame rate in playtime on Crystal..thank you again 😮😊
Perfect, my settings were getting a bit out of hand! What is your opinion on using Oculus tray tool - worth it with msfs?
Great video. It is amazing how much you can get for less to boost your frames. Have you done a video for DCS World yet? If so can you point me there. Im looking to boost visuals without it crashing or stuttering when playing on the carriers
Sold my G2 and waiting on the Pimax Crystal light… did you see the Pimax video released yesterday by them as now shipping delays as they focus on quality. They also admitted to a few other things they are working to improve on too.
You didn't mention motion reprojection settings for the Crystal. Do you use that?
I have quest 3, and should i adjust the graphic only in game or in VD to?. I am new to this!
Steve have you experienced any inside out tracking issues with these headsets? In my G2 while flying msfs sometimes the image jumps or just doesn’t track as smooth as possible. Have you noticed one headset is worse than others. Or is this just a me problem?
Your videos and information are just so very, very good! I have a Primax Crystal Light on order because of your great information! Just one question about about the unit, do you recommend a base unit? I read if you want to lean in or left or right a base unit will track better? Any thoughts? Just love you videos!
Hi Doug thankyou that's very kind of you! You don't need any base stations as the Crystal Light has adequate tracking for flight simulation, using it's own inside our tracking. 👍
I really really appreciate your quick response; that helps a lot! I hope to stop over in England and tour next year with my wife; it would be so cool to meet you; that said I know you stay very very busy. So I understand! Waiting for your next motorcycle tour, love your videos for sure!
How about a series for Xplane 12 in the Quest 3. I'm a beginner, and I'm somewhat confused about Virtual Desktop and other programs such as OpenXR, ODT, etc. Should I'm use AutoFPS and/or Smooth Flight with Virtual Desktop? Many question and much confusion. Thanks.
Thanks , would like to see your xr toolkit settings too if you are running it
Pleasure. Check out the pinned comment (that's for Quest 3 though). Cheers!
Never miss ur videos,do you efer have crystal starting issues like many of us and do u use the power hub unever seem to have Any crystal issues, love your input
Thankyou I appreciate that. Yes I used to have problems with disconnections during flight, until I bought my own USB powered hub. I have mentioned this in a few of my Crystal videos but it's probably easy to miss.
More of this please
Many thanks for this video - very helpful re: PimaxXR toolkit. I run DLAA instead of Quality -> 1:1, no up or down scaling. I9 14k, 4090, 64GB here -> beefy ! One basic question - how do you see the fps ??😅
Cheers James. I'll give this a try later. There is a setting to show FPS in the Open XR toolkit. I think it's at the top of the first menu. Take care.
@@VRFlightSimGuy Well, I have to agree that TAA looks a bit better than DLAA with the down-scaling at 3500x4142, but I’m seeing some shimmering with buildings with lines that are close, such as corrugated steel hangars, that I didn’t get with DLAA. On the upside, I’m getting a solid 45fps TAA and more like 30fps DLAA.
Well😅 probably I would add something more if I may😂
Good video buddy. Thx
I could have easily made this video 3 hours long 😂 Just simple tips for this one. Thanks for watching. I hope you're feeling better.
What about lowering PC settings menu to LOW (or OFF)? Does it makes a difference in FPS? Does it affects VR visuals in any way?
A very timely video for me. I'm going to be upgrading my graphics card from a 3080 10G to a 4070Ti Super 16G this week. Looking forward to following your tips for upgrading my settings I did have a question about HAGS. I currently have it turned off but have heard that with a 4000 series card you should have it on. Anyone have a definitive answer or is it more try it and see if it benefits you?
Thanks,
Steve
can this be combined with the new lossless frame gen app?
It's always a pleasure to watch your very informative videos about msfs 2020 that help improve our experience with VR. Which Nvidia video driver are you using now or which driver do you prefer for msfs 2020 in general?
Thankyou I really appreciate that :) Currently I'm using 546.01
Quick question, for playing only dcs world, is the somnium vr1 better than the varjo xr4?
Did you say which Framerate your getting with this? I might have to go through my settings again, thought they are similar but my performance sucks (can only do 36 FPS via Virtual Desktop despite lower resolution than you). Settings should be from an older video of yours but maybe I changed something mistakenly
I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. But motion reprojection looks horrible for me. I’m using a Reverb G2. Using a 4090. I get a solid locked 45fps. But the propeller looks very weird. And there’s some odd flickering and strange artifacts happening. I don’t think that’s normal is it? It’s very noticeable when I’m low to the ground or about to land.
great video. I have learned a lot of things which sure I need. My Crystal light is already on shipping. Hopefully that is not a fake. I sure follow all your guidelines.
Please share any knowledge you have ... as long VR releated ;-) :-D
thanks and enjoy dear all out there
Any comments what it would look like in a 3080 ? Many thanks
Hey Steve which vr headset is your favorite one to use as of right now? I just wanted to ask because I’ve seen you using many different vr headsets on the channel. There’s gotta be a vr headset you love using the most
Great question. Video on that coming soon, as I'm still trying to figure it out myself :D
do you recommend quest 3 again or just crystal light like every other reviewer? IT SEEMS LIKE CRYSTAL LIGHT IS THE ONE TO BEAT!

Had 2 great sessions of flying with some of these settings as a try out. But today, I’m getting a flight in my Cessna 172 where the aircraft is being buffeted all over the place. A totally unrealistic & sick making experience. Had it happen in the early days of 2020. I can’t remember what the fix was. I’ve checked the controller settings including the usual windows configuration for controllers. Only flying over Cornwall at about 1500-2000ft & the weather wasn’t bad today with live on. Like you say, 1 day can be good, the next something is maybe up with the servers.
make sure in the settings all turbulence is off. Also in the wind layers on the weather delete any wind layers/turbulence
I use DLSS Quality and then supersample it within the OpenXR toolkit to 4600x… on the Pimax Crystal, gives me ultra smooth fps and great graphics!
Same on the Quest 3. Using TAA is not the correct way to push the performance/ultra quality settings.
I still do not get what you mean by downscale the resolution. All the videos I have seen have set he resolution override in OpenXR Toolkit to *more* than the native resolution of the headset (the Crystal in my case). In one of your videos the resolution is set to 3500x4142 which is (2880x1.2)x(2880x1.4). So the vertical is upscaled by 1.2 and the horizontal total resolution is upscaled by 1.4. What? Very confusing.
It can be rather confusing, basically in order for the headset to achieve it's native resolution in VR, it has to account for barrel distortions. That's why it's much larger.
@@VRFlightSimGuy You should do a video explaining the settings for resolution override and why they are set the way they are. For say the Crystal, Crystal light and Quest 3. Those three headsets probably make up about 90 percent of the users. I loved my Pico 4, but not a LOT of people have it.
Have you heard about lossless scaling app ? Would be interesting to do some tests.
Thank you for reminding me, I've been meaning to look at this for a while. I need to remember where to find it..
@@VRFlightSimGuy it s on steam.
Hags has been nothing short of a disaster for me. Couldn’t use BATC with the crystal unless I disabled hags. Thought I would get major fps hit but I got nothing. It is an utter mystery.
I5 13900k oc 5.9ghz and a 3090 both water cooled i get 40fps flying from CYTZ with a pimax 8kx . The key is turning off all power saving features and the E-cores. Never had a problem with fps.
I need to use my 8KX again!
@VRFlightSimGuy I love mine. Is the crystal much better than the 8kx. You should do a comparison video. By the way using CPU-Z I score 940 in single core speed. I am curious to know what you score on your cpu.
@@Ddustz3 Already have ;) ua-cam.com/video/ZaQnwFw5ELU/v-deo.html
@VRFlightSimGuy after watching this my credit card started to cry lol
@@Ddustz3 😆
I have RTX 4060 ti 16 GB, Oculus 2 and I'm happy.
More please...
On the topic of DLSS also you should also get DLSS swapper, update to new version and enable ultra quality using dlss tweaks. The newest version really makes the ghosting minimal and with ultra quality at about 90% scaling its hard to even tell you are on DLSS. I see LOD's go to 500+ using auto fps with these settings
Yep G2 4090 on DLSS swapper 3.7.1 using DLSS tweaks preset E then set DLAA mode in the sim. Works great. Don't need to upscale 1:1 is really sharp.
I really dont get why so many say downscale the resolution a bit, its not that noticable in quality, to me it is night and day difference and wouldnt even recommend it 🤔 maybe different from person to person?
You cannot drop resolution because you need to read digits on displays and gauges in the cockpit
I still can at 3500x4142
Number one tip…….get an RTX 4090. I’m already saving for a 5090 👀
hmmm not exactly helpful 😅
@@VRFlightSimGuy 🤣🤣
Doing all I can with a 3080 and my Crystal. I hope a 50XX can get past all the 3rd party scaling software.
Me tooooo 🎉🎉
DX12 dosent work with VR
Yes it does
