how do you know what color to glaze over? it seems like the color you use in the glazing looks nothing like the color that results from it. or maybe the time lapse just makes it look like that
Start with warm colors for your first layer of glazing. This can create a vibrant base that enhances the overall warmth of the painting. Follow with cool colors for subsequent glazes. This layering technique helps to balance the warmth and add depth. There will be a tutorial demonstration available soon!
Amazing! Grisaille segment was perfect and beautiful, but I was particularly awed from 1:34 onwards because that is my own stopper. How long to wait for every glazing layer to dry? How long did it take to go from finished grisaille to finished color painting? ¿Hours, days, weeks, months? Thanks!
I'm glad you enjoyed the grisaille segment! Generally, I would wait 24 hours to several days for each glazing layer to dry completely. The exact time can vary based on: Thickness of the glaze: Thicker layers will take longer to dry. Type of oil used: For example, linseed oil tends to dry faster, while safflower oil dries more slowly. If you have any more questions or need further information, feel free to ask!
Using ivory black and titanium white is a great choice for creating a rich grisaille effect. Ivory black provides deep shadows, while titanium white offers bright highlights. You can mix these colors to achieve various gray tones and create depth in your artwork. Enjoy your painting!
I'm glad you found it amazing! Here are the colors I recommend for glazing, divided into warm and cool colors: Warm Colors: Yellow Ochre Vermilion Burnt Umber Cool Colors: Cobalt Violet Ultramarine
It's not a dumb question at all! Yes, I often mix staining colors into gesso. Specifically, I typically use acrylic Burnt Umber and Ivory Black to create a toned ground. This helps add depth and richness to the surface before I start painting.
Thank you for the great feedback! The next tutorial will be much slower, especially when painting the eyes, nose, and lips. I appreciate your suggestion
Yes, I mix linseed oil and stand oil for glazing my grisaille. I typically use about a 1:1 ratio, but you can adjust it based on your desired drying time and finish. Using more stand oil will slow drying and increase gloss, while more linseed oil will speed up drying.
OMG This looks amazing, keep doing it, you're doing a wonderful work 🤩
Thank you so much! I really appreciate your kind words and support! I'll definitely keep at it!
What oil medium to you use for glazing.
For glazing, I use linseed oil and stand oil. I specifically choose the Liquin Mediums for its quality and performance in achieving transparent layers

I am with you on this.
Why don't you paint a "pretty" Asian Woman, instead!!! It's exotic!
Beauty comes in many forms and cultural backgrounds, and everyone deserves to be seen as an individual rather than a stereotype.
