It's funny how he says yeah I like to adjust it tight af the other dude says it will break all the gears traxxas says he say yeah it will break all the gears but I get wheelies and throttle response , but i ain't driving it to work
i love it when he says... it goes wheeeeeeeee and doesnt go anywhere. that actually helps people understand the actual issues that may have, instead of just showing people how to adjust it.. great videos guys!
Thank you guys so much I have a rustler that has just been sat in the garage because when I put throttle on it didn't go anywhere I just got took your advice to tighten it a lot and now it's zooming again Thanks again!!
Over 6 months of changing EVERYTHING else it seems through the driveline and watching soooo many videos and you just solved my problem. Thanks so much! I subscribed.
I have not only adjusted the Slipper Clutch in my ECX 2WD Ruckus but upgraded pretty much my whole Truck. I upgraded her Transmission with new Metal Gear set & Associated Slipper Pads, upgraded to a Metal Spur & Pinion Gears & applied some Tamiya Cera-Grease & bought a Clear Plastic Trans Cover (that looks 😎 watching the Gears-a-turnin' 👍). A new Metal Slippery Diff (& I opened up my Stock Diff & Locked it with Super Glue as a replacement to try. 😜). I also upgraded my Drive Shafts to a set of Hot Racing HD Shafts (not the Star Shafts, just the thinner round 1's. 1 of the 1st upgrades to do due to the Stock Plastic pos items breaking almost every time you take it out! 😔). I upgraded my Stock ECS & Brushed Motor to a HobbyWing EzRun WP-SC8 & a Leopard Hobby 3800KV Brushless Motor, & added a Motor Heatsink & Fan that I "piggy-back" connected to the ECS Fan wiring, so both fans run together from the same Plug Port. 😘 Upgraded the front Steering & Suspension with mostly HR Alloy kit (some goood bit o' kit, right there, that HR is! 😅) & (Cheap Chinese from Wish)Metal Camber/Caster Adjusters, Front & Rear (went back to Stock Steering Arms due to the Wish 1's I bought being too short. 😕), a HD Steering Servo. HR Rear Hubs. I installed a Light Kit & Roof Light Kit but need new of both from rolling & crashing my Raucous BEAST!! 😂). Oh, I had to install a Traxxas Wheelie Bar & am working out Front Weights to help keep the Front End DOWN so I can have SOME semblence of Control. 😂 I only need a new Dual Battery Charger that "does it all" & a new Battery or few. My Vant 7.4V 30C 4000mAh battery is swelling due to improper storage on my behalf (I beleive?). I had it charged unused the past 6 months due to my upgraded Alloy Bell Housing losing an Allen Screw or 2 & falling apart, breaking stuff, etc... & my being financially strained, unable to get replacement parts. I just worked out a temporary fix using some Stock Parts until I can get a new Bell Housing, & whilst doing the repair job checked my battery & it's-a-balloonin', man! No good. So I'm discharging it completely running the cars' Lights & Fans to dispose of it properly asap. 😅 What would you suggest is a suitable Battery C-Rating for my Setup? I am pretty sure the ballooning is due to improper storage as the Battery hardly heated up under use compared to the Stock Battery & ECS, etc... THAT Battery got HOT! I just want to be sure that I am correct in thinking the Battery WAS ok, & that 'twas my bad storing it charged. Thanks heaps! ☺
The right way to address this is to get telemetry and check your peak load/power. It is going to be different for different setups/vehicles etc,...of course, bigger is better in terms of "C" rating, but to do it right you need to know what your actual load.
@@Rcstreetshop I believe I saw some device on this 'ere inets that you can plug your esc into one side & your motor into the other, & it tells you various infos about the motor's various states of operation? But that may be a bit costly for me atm? Certainly worth my looking further into though. I have an Automotive Multimeter with a Temp Probe & all, but lack the knowledge & experience with 1 to do so, so... 😅
I just discovered you guys. I am new to the hobby. Old and worn out in everything else. Just thought I would tell you that I am enjoying watching your videos. You are fun and informative! Thanks!
Thank you for this video. I just got my Nitro Rustler from a garage sale and thought it was broke. I said ahh well just paid $50.00. Saw your video did what you said and now I am tearing up the asphalt. Lol
I agree with tightening slipper all the way. Because I switched to a brushless setup and kept burning up the spur gear and slipper parts. I tightened the slipper all the way and no longer have that issue. And like he said an $8 gear part much cheaper & easier to fix and replace.
thx guys my car went down yesterday and I thought right away its the motor but when i picked him up, the wheels still turned when pressing gas. I took it apart and found no broken things but now I know that I have to check this as well. This video is by far the best I found.
well it seams it was not the cause of the problem and I ripped my diff apart as I probably tightend it to heavy. At least one side of the wheels is blockednow. Might also be because I took everything apart before I tighten it. But not worries, I will take the car to the shop where I bought it. They are very helpfull and I can order the things needed right away :D :D But still the video is very good and helped.
sure thing I dont like to order from abroad just to save a few bugs. and I always look to use the shops closest to me. Not only for RC stuff. But somethimes you have to go a bit further :-)
I had to take the spur gear off yesterday to reach a suspension screw that broke loose. I thought that nut in the middle was to take it off and tried that first, only to find out what it really did in another video. It was a traxxas bandit, and it seemed to be cranked all the way down from the factory, so that's where I put it back. Seems to run okay after putting it back together.
The slipper is designed to help increase traction on low traction surfaces, and reduce the load on the gearbox. If you adjust it too loosely, it can damage the slipper and the spur gear. Adjusting it too tight can cause damage to the gear box/spur. To adjust it properly, place the vehicle on the surface you intend to drive on, and from a dead stop, accelerate hard. The slipper should slip for no more than 2 feet.
Thank you guys so much! I love RC's so much. Just finished my first kit. I also just fixed my old duratraxx truggie and 2wd traxxas slash. Lol the truggie is missing a spur gear, but I think I have one lying around. What brushless ESC would you guys recommend? I'm trying to convert the trugggie to brushless. I already have a brushless motor... Please get back to me asap. (I subbed)
oh thanks for this info i was wanting quick take off and cool spinning of the tires lol.i thought i was going to have to try to change gears or something..ill be sure to get a few extra parts if they break
Thanks for the video. I needed this because I removed the bearing in my Slash which is attached to the slipper, and didn't know how to readjust it when putting it back together.
very helpful cause thought I stripped my gear I didn't know it was those cheap plastic pads great explanation guys I just bought the hot Racing carbon fiber pads keep it up guys
Ahh! So that’s why whenever I would accelerate with my 4x4 slash, it kinda of just sits for a split sec before slowly gaining speed! Because I had replaced the entire Transmission and didn’t adjust it! The problem I suspected but never knew. Thanks!
AWESOME INFORMATION!...I have a question hoping you guys can answer. I recently chose to put aluminum slipper pads. After a couple of runs I opened it back up and noticed I had metal shavings every where in my MM/Slipper housing. Turns out that the hubs were grinding into the aluminum pads leaving a circular groove in the pads. Is that normal for aluminum pads?...because the plastic stock pads only had scuff marks that I can easily clean off...the hub didn't cut/dig into the plastic. If it's not normal...what can be the cause of this?
Great job guys! I have a kyosho nitro buggy and i was wondering how would I adjust the clutch because it does not have a slipper clutch like the traxxas models?
The slipper clutch maintenance kit you can get for the Traxxas Rustler VXL the pads you get with it are made from some kind of material. You can also get the slipper clutch maintenance kit for something like the Stampeed but the pads are made from metal. Will this kit work with the Rustler?
So can I follow the same principle here tighten it to it's Max capacity then do one full twist to loosen I own a stampede and it was recently repaired and upgraded but it isn't popping wheelies as that is one of the reasons you get a stampede 4x4 vxl I follow this guide and I will be good to go?
on my first RC I melted the spur gear that the entire was gone. I have learned a lot sence then. Im watching this because my cousins have broke a total of 6 front and back diffs and I have not broke one yet and I did not have a lot of info about this
hi thanks for the video. is IT true that if the clutch is too tight IT can damage the engine? or burn IT because the big Gear is too tight and that over forces the engine (velineon)?
RC STREET SHOP Geat Video , quick question, is there anything you recommended if running 2.8 tires? I have a slash 2wd upgraded vxl-3s Velineon 3500 set up, should I crank it down or loosen it with the larger tires or do you recommend a complete clutch upgrade? Thank you very much

Hey man I have a question, I keep on breaking the pin on my slipper shaft, there are two pins, one on the outside that you can see after removing the slipper clutch and then one more in the transmission on top of a gear, I have probably had to replace that pin inside my transmission nine or ten times now.. I’m getting frustrated, The people at my hobby store said that they have no clue what is going on most of them are on their first slipper shaft pin and still running smoothly, am I doing anything wrong? I have my slipper clutch adjusted a turn out
What if you have a horrible, loud sound coming from it? I adjusted the Velineon motor on my 2WD Rustler and lost the screw while driving it and it tore up the spur gear. I replaced the gear and I still have that sound. I also have the Slash 2WD with the Valineon motor upgrade, so I can tell they're the same. Not sure what it is. Possibly the transmission?
I have a 2wd Traxas rustler and I put larger oversized rims and tires on it for the front end back and i burned out my slipper clutch. When i press the throttle it wouldn't really move fast so im going to replace the slipper clutch it's burned out bad. Should I just tighten that Spring And is it okay to run the larger tires on the front and back? It's the brusless VXL model and the tires and rims i bought are way bigger then the origin tires it actually looks like a monster truck now.
If you end up tightening that thing all the way down I do lock tight with another nut on the outside and never have issues but get a wheelie bar if you have stampedes rustlers and what not
hi thanks for your answer! can I build the 3 pads of the clutch with some material? wood or any other ? today one of them has broken cause IT was too thin.
I just watched this vid for no reason and I already had my slipper clutch set up the roger way and after watching this vid, I’m still going to keep it that way even if I could ruin other parts, what’s the fun in RC if something doesn’t break if its replaceable
Most likely you busted differential, but it also could be something else, there are a lot of variables. Stop by the shop and our tech will take a look (or your other local hobby shop).
nice vids, i got a question about traxxas stock tires, do they all come unbalanced? mine did and my back tires shake when i hit the gas in the air. front ones seem to want to hang at a specific spot. first time traxxas owner here.
Any tire comes unbalanced, it doesn't matter if its Traxxas, Kyosho or HPI. It is recommended to balance it (to make your suspension work better), but it is not obligatory.
I just got the E Revo nitro conversion unit. I can not get the Dx5c and my 6ch rx to deal with the 2 speed w/rev transmission . What are some tips to setting this up?
I smoked my clutch so bad i thought it was the motor, lol, it did smell like an electrical fire, is the 5352R kit compatible with the XL-5 2WD RUSTLER?, Thanks
@@Rcstreetshop i was trying to figure out what happened and i was pulling the throttle for a good 30 seconds then some of the plastic caught fire... My steering servo also died yesterday so im getting all my new parts soon.
I have a stampede, I thought the differential was shot so I bought a new one and installed still just power to the right side is this a slipper issue? Anything will help like your channel.
Check your hub bearings (or bushings for XL-5 models). If you have a bad/seized bearing on one side, that'll create extra resistance on that side and the differential is going to send power to the side with less resistance. Also, if you have a rock stuck between your wheel and the suspension, that'll do it too.
Not gonna just strip the spur gear if its set to tight it can put that much more power into the differential only way i used to strip diff gear in tmaxx
How should i set it if i keep breaking my diffs? Will loosening it save my diffs or will it just wreck my spur gear? I have a 1/16 revo with a 1/8 motor and it just keeps destroying my drivetrain. My driveshafts are all steel but everything else breaks even when testing at only 1/4 throttle... :/ id mych rather replace a spur gear every run than pull my diffs out after every run. Edit: i did shim my diffs.
Anyone have advice on how to prevent breaking the slipper clutch shaft pin so often? I'm new and bought a rustler vxl used, and the slipper may have been too loose. I'm an expert now at tearing this apart. Lol..

When you fully tighten the slipper do you back it off the one full turn or just tighten it down and leave it at that?

The slipper is designed to help increase traction on low traction surfaces, and reduce the load on the gearbox. If you adjust it too loosely, it can damage the slipper and the spur gear. Adjusting it too tight can cause damage to the gear box/spur.
To adjust it properly, place the vehicle on the surface you intend to drive on, and from a dead stop, accelerate hard. The slipper should slip for no more than 2 feet.

@@Sleeperknot - You can hear it when it slips. It has a bit of a high pitch whine. You'll also notice the car launch slowly if its too loose.
@@AddictedRC thank you! I just adjusted it the traxxas recommended way while building. Will do this test once I'm able to run the car!

The rod that the slipper clutch is attatched too is broke . What is it. ?
What would cause the teeth on the slipper clutch to strip out
nice vids, i got a question about traxxas stock tires, do they all come unbalanced? mine did and my back tires shake when i hit the gas in the air. front ones seem to want to hang at a specific spot. first time traxxas owner here.
Any tire comes unbalanced, it doesn't matter if its Traxxas, Kyosho or HPI.
It is recommended to balance it (to make your suspension work better), but it is not obligatory.
RC Street Shop how is that done?
You suppose to use a special tire balancer.
Should i grease the spur gear
no
What kind of damage can overheating do to the motor
1) damage magnets -> efficiency drops
2) crack isolation laquer -> shortcut
3) overheat ballbearing -> damage isolation ->shortcut
4) damage magnet glue -> shortcut
I just got the E Revo nitro conversion unit. I can not get the Dx5c and my 6ch rx to deal with the 2 speed w/rev transmission . What are some tips to setting this up?
I smoked my clutch so bad i thought it was the motor, lol, it did smell like an electrical fire, is the 5352R kit compatible with the XL-5 2WD RUSTLER?, Thanks
Does this apply for nitros too?
Not quite, with nitros you have clutch, which slips while engagement. Its factory pre-set, unless you change it to aftermarket or some other specs
Yeah this solved my problem. My clutch actually caught on fire... Getting a new one soon.
Wow, we've never seen RC clutch on fire
@@Rcstreetshop i was trying to figure out what happened and i was pulling the throttle for a good 30 seconds then some of the plastic caught fire... My steering servo also died yesterday so im getting all my new parts soon.
Thanks, great help
Thanks for the comment!
The more I break the more I learn :)
Amen!:)
how come i strip out spool lockers when i use sand paws on the lawn?
Because you had too much grip and power.
Hi guys I've got an RC car I've done what you said but only one side is gripping the other sides not so what does that mean
I'll be in ur store soon
We're looking forward to meet you
I have a stampede, I thought the differential was shot so I bought a new one and installed still just power to the right side is this a slipper issue? Anything will help like your channel.
Check your hub bearings (or bushings for XL-5 models). If you have a bad/seized bearing on one side, that'll create extra resistance on that side and the differential is going to send power to the side with less resistance.
Also, if you have a rock stuck between your wheel and the suspension, that'll do it too.
Thanks guys!
Not gonna just strip the spur gear if its set to tight it can put that much more power into the differential only way i used to strip diff gear in tmaxx
Thanx for this video it really help me out
Always welcome, we're here to help!
I would definitely recommend trying a looser clutch setting, especially if you run on loose, low traction surfaces.
The problem with my little traxxxas summit vxl is that if the clutch isn't REALLY soft my back differential is broken after 4 wheelies
Try to help your diff with higher viscosity oil
Anyone have advice on how to prevent breaking the slipper clutch shaft pin so often? I'm new and bought a rustler vxl used, and the slipper may have been too loose. I'm an expert now at tearing this apart. Lol..
Same here as my car was fine out the box then made a wizzing noise. And it turns out it was this 👍👍
Happy to help!
I had mine too tight, sheared my spring pin on my slipper clutch input shaft, it sucked to replace
Great advice 👌🏽
Thank you!
