      I like these guys, no problem for me but... when you put yourself out there doing vid3os or whatever for the consumption of general public at large you open yourself up to criticism, and unfortunately it seems like as time goes on we find the % of losers with no manners or poor manners on purpose grows.
      Likewise we are free to berate them.
      On a side note I had to stop watching their videos with my kids, they are getting smart enough to catch and understand the sexual innuendos. Again, free speech so I’m ok with that...unless you want to stop that would work too!

      Kids shouldn`t be online, the internet is a terrible place.
      And when they understand innuendo`s, they`re old enough to watch it, you should be open about that stuff and not have it be secret or forbidden, it will save them a lot of frustration and lying as time goes by ;)
      Same goes for cursing, if it`s forbidden and demonized, it will be attractive and seducing, like with smoking etc..
      Unless you want them to keep everything from you as they grow up lol..
      just sayin`..
      Some uncomfortable conversations are worth having :)

    DEFINITE NEW SUBSCRIBER HERE!!!
    I bought a Rustler VXL & Bandit XL-5 in 2018. My son & I drove both of them maybe 1 month(too much power for his age). Been in storage since!
    Last month, I found em, pulled em both out, and me being a COMPLETE NOVICE, I took both apart as much as I could and detailed/cleaned them up!
    After 2nd battery run, the Rustler snapped the pin on the top shaft. Having zero knowledge about RC's I took to local hobby shop & watched them fix it for me. Had I found this video/channel a week ago...I'm sure I could have done it!
    Great camera visual & explanation here! I'll be stopping back by for more How To's... Thanks guys😎💪

    Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I just purchased an entire bearing kit for my rustler. I did the tires this yesterday. I have yet to do the transmission bearings. This was extremely helpful. I may also just go ahead & replace the diff with the sealed version while I'm at it, don't want to have to open it again lol. This ia the part of my traxxas that scares me a tad 😄 I'm ok playing with the pinion & spur, that's cake..... But those loads of tiny pins inside that box, well.... I call that box 'Pandora' 😂

Using a 3-Cell LiPO, this set-up drives my 2WD Slash at 50MPH on 2.8 inch JConcepts Rulux Wheels with JConcepts G-Loc Tires (G-Locs aren't supposed to balloon - My set-up proves that wrong, they do balloon!) Hey guys. Love this vid. Very thorough. You mention the 1 flaw in the traxxas case is the built in a-arm mounts. I agree this is a fault, although the rpm 3 piece with 4 small nuts is tought to tighten without removing a bunch of stuff. I feel the main fault of the traxxas is actually the fact that it has to be sealed with a piece of tape. Whats up with that? Look forward to watching more videos of yours. I was surprised how clean the bearings you removed are for a rustler that was driven hard. Mine always seems to get gross. I have to change the bearings everytime i do anything. I buy them by the 100 lot. Be excellent to each other.

    Hey Guys. I want you to know that I I was gifted in 1992 and afterwards. It's actually quite a long story and I would like to send this to you to let you know I had come across your videos fixing tires on a Traxxas a vehicle with another video showing how to put the gear on to the motor and don't let it slip too much because it would overheat. I have learned quite a bit from the man with the red hair. About my gift? I've never met either one of you men but it's not too hard or difficult for me to pick up that the man with red hair is very knowledgable in these vehicles. No questions asked. I have an Emacs brushless truck and I have light pole three batteries running it. The plastic gears I have burnt most likely in around 20 of them because I am learning on my own and now that I know how to subscribe which I have subscribed to your channel and I know how to get to your videos, I would like to know if there's a way that I am supposed to tighten my tires on the back of my truck from wiggle in a little bit.? I have Botton many many many and too many parts from Traxxas. I would like to know if you tricks or tips as you will call them. I hope you can respond to me soon I'm going to be looking for more videos to come from you and ur little friend u have there.
    Thanks for your time and have a blessed day. Jason.

    I appreciate the info with the upgraded parts and even the cleaner. A few things though...I notice no blue loctite when screwing metal to metal. Also, I did not see any grease inside the gearbox, only inside the hot-racing diff??? Lastly, I did not find carbon fiber pads for the rustler from hot-racing. Are you using a version meant for a different vehicle? thanks!

      See above for my opinion on grease. the diff uses silicone oil not grease. the oil is there to provide resistance not lubrication. You are correct about the Loc-tite. I meant to use it but completely forgot. I'm not sure how Hot Racing lists the carbon pads. TRX15GS is the part number. They refer to them as "graphite" pads. they work very well.

    I loved the proline 2wd trans... I ran mine for 3 years before sheering off the diff output. I bought diff outputs and fixed it but now I see their discontinued so eventually I will have to do this. Its sad because the arm holders are separate and cheap on the proline and so were internal parts so I could just buy arm holders instead of doing the whole trans thing over and over. And it makes 1/3 of the noise.. plus you can tell a speed and power difference instantly, along with the pulling to one side it had b4 being gone. I with there was more options.

    Better Video than I can make lol haters are gonna hate. I actually did this rebuild with the hot racing case. some things that I did not see you mention is that if you get the replacement dif gears there is also a very small washer that goes between the drive shafts that I am thinking got missed. also before you screw the diff back together let the dif fluid settle if you have an air bubble it can cause parts to break because of torque. Also Traxxas does not seem to sell Idler shafts by themselves they only come with the replacement cases (Bogus!!!!!) If you have to put the top gear on the shaft use a 10mm deep socket to push the top gear onto the shaft.

    A locked rear diff is the best way to go idk if that’s what he’s referring too by sealed diff
    But I just take the stoke gear and shove hot glue inside or jb weld or super glue just pack it and close it and that has lasted me 5 years with no problems 😂
    And it drifts every were 👌

    • @Rcstreetshop
      @Rcstreetshop  4 роки тому +2

      Locking up your diff will make your traction really bad, it needs to give at least a little bit. 2WD Slash doesn't have enough grip/torque to utilize high viscosity diff fluids, but you may try to put 50K to 300K and see how you like it.

    Thinking about doing this. I have an rpm case though. I just destroyed all the gears. The differential got some broken teeth into it and messed it up and the intermediate has under 10 teeth as well as the other. I guess that’s what happens with a small spur and 3s lipo when it goes in 2 wheels and your slipper isn’t properly adjusted. Gonna be a fun experience lmao

    Didn’t anyone notice he forgot one thing? Lightly applying Grease to the teeth on the differential... simple to do as he could’ve done it before or even after assembling the case... just a light coating on the diff gear will cover the rest of the gears which helps quieten it, make it cooler running and gears last longer... don’t drown it in grease... light coating is key as too much can make it bog down and bind

    I think Traxxas may have put thicker grease in the newer 2WD transmissions. My Bandit, Slash and Rustler (all three are just under a year old) all seem to have very smooth yet somewhat stiff diff action like my Rustler 4x4 and Slash 4x4 VXL's.

    • @Rcstreetshop

      You need to service differentials. Racers, service their diffs every race. For weekend racers we recommend to service diffs every 2-3 months.

      @@Rcstreetshop They've been like that since new. Plus I have serviced the entire gear box on all of my cars. It was just something I observed. I remember when the Traxxas 2WD platforms were fairly new in the late 90's. I remember the diff action being looser on those older models.

    • @Rcstreetshop
      @Rcstreetshop  5 років тому +3

      There are a number of reasons. Generally speaking you have too much grip. Adjust your slipper clutch so that it gives a little bit under heavy acceleration. OR adjust the way you apply throttle.
      You may also change gearing to slow down spool time which basically changes acceleration timing.
      Or try different tires (with less grip).

    I just put wheel axle ball bearings on 1 yr old Rustler (60 2s lipo runs on dirt&grass) to replace the 8 bronze bushings. Steering was sloppy, now it's great! But when I was setting motor pinion mesh, I noticed a bit of radial play in the top shaft that the spur and slipper run on. Is that shaft that the slipper clutch is on in bearings or bushings from factory? I have 2 more 5x11x4 ballbearings, but I hate to break into the xmission mid season if this play is normal.

    I finally picked up one of these sealed diffs. I'm not sure what silicone grease weight to use. I am seeing info all over the place when it comes to what weight to use.
    I'm using my rustler for dual purpose, light bashing outside around the house & also for speed runs.
    Also, does cold outdoor temps affect the viscosity of the grease?
    Is that 500k cst oil that you used in this video?
    Thanks, Awesome video!

    Like your video guys. Just wondering, it looked like there was no lube put on the gears when you reassembled, but metal on metal would seems to want some form of lube, especially if the diff grease is staying inside the diff.

    • @Rcstreetshop
      @Rcstreetshop  4 роки тому +2

      For what we use it for, we do not use lube...believe it or not but lube will slow it down. RC gears do not last as long as gears in real cars, so sometimes you may get away without using lubrication.

    Hey guys, thanks for the video, I saw James J question below, but I didn't see why you don't lube the sealed diff, idler, and top shaft gear teeth, do you put them in dry, or some sort of lube ?

    • @Rcstreetshop
      @Rcstreetshop  6 років тому +2

      Thanks for your comment. It is OK not to lube hardened gears, they very durable and wear resistant. In general metall gears require special lube which Roger didn't have on hand. Any other lube would actually slow the transmission down and add additional resistance for Motor/ESC.

    Hey, I just want to say, really appreciate all the how to videos 👍, they have really helped me, being that I've only been into RC about 6 months, but I am having issues adjusting the slipper, first it was too tight and I stripped two spur gears, so I barely backed it off, not even a whole quarter of a turn, and it was too loose, car barely moved and burned up the pads and warped the spur gear, any suggestions? And what is the brand and part number of the bearing kit?

    • @Rcstreetshop
      @Rcstreetshop  6 років тому +2

      Thank you for your feedback and comment. Setting up a slipper really depends on many variables. I would start with setting right gear mesh (we have video on that too) and gap. Then I 'd make sure that the grip (the actual grip) is right, meaning that you have right tires for where you run it. Once you know that power get transferred correctly you start tinkering your slipper. Try not to overheat it, as it will change the way it responds. Do 1/8 of a turn, on super powerful vehicles we even suggest 1/16 of a turn (a with high power even slight adjustment makes a world of difference).
