this tune is hitting me hard, bbbbbeautiful gillian thank you.
Gillian is so gorgeous, the simple dress, the lack of showy jewelry or makeup, and of course that voice and writing genius.
Gillian Welch is a great singer and so are the others!
The way she does 1:43 in this is so much better than in the album version. I love this rendition
David Rawlings playing is just mesmerising. He hardly seems to be doing anything, but beautiful sound is cascading from that Epiphone.......

Similar to Norman Blake's "in the spring of the year"
When you listen to "Wayside/back in time" by Gillian Welch you can really hear where she got the melody. She gives a respectful nod to Norman too.
I love it!
"Oh, I wish I was in Frisco
In a brand new pair of shoes
'Cause I'm sittin' here in Nashville
With Norman's Nashville blues"
-Gillian Welch
Dave R mentions Norman Blake as one of his major influences.

Beautiful
Gillian is great
great!
A touch calmer than how Chris Thile plays it with Punch Brothers.
He is an artist. You accompany your guest, not show them up.
I think voted best mandolin player of all time.
Country is a bit too predictable for chris. Kinda like a genius
@@kevinwheaton7347 kinda like the two "country" artists he's playing with, Opie.
@@kevinwheaton7347 nothing he can do that would show these two up.....nothing!
A song that every city wants to get mentioned in is Wayside, for good or else.
Standing on the corner
With a nickel or a dime
There use to be a rail car
To take you down the line
Too much beer and whiskey
To ever be employed
And when I got to Nashville
It was too much soldiers joy
Wasted on the wayside
Wasted on the way
If I don't go tomorrow
You know I'm gone today
Back, baby, back in time
I wanna go back when you were mine
Back, baby, back in time
I wanna go back when you were mine
Black highway all night ride
Watching the times fall away to the side
Clear channel way down low
Is comin' in loud and my mind let go
Peaches in the summertime
Apples in the fall
If I can't have you all the time
I won't have none at all
Oh, I wish I was in Frisco
In a brand new pair of shoes
'Cause I'm sittin' here in Nashville
With Norman's Nashville blues
So come all you good time rounders
Listenin' to my sound
And drink a round to Nashville
Before they tear it down
Back, baby, back in time
I wanna go back when you were mine
Back, baby, back in time
I wanna go back when you were mine
Hard weather, drivin' slow
Buggies and the hats in town for the show
Oh darlin', the songs they played
All I got left is the love we made
Back, baby, back in time
I wanna go back when you were mine
Back, baby, back in time
I wanna go back when you were mine
Anyone know how to get the mp3 of this? It's worth listening to over and over again, I think.
+Christina Dickerson, or get the studio album. Gillian Welch is awesome, all of her songs.
Their live arrangement is eons better than the studio cut
Great song better harmony synchronicity
I always wondered if Kenneth Pattengale (Milk Carton Kids) drew directly from David Rawlings' sound, or if they just both kinda landed in a very similar spot
He couldn’t NOT have heard Rawling’s playing. It’s as much landing in a similar place as it is cross pollination
I've seen interviews with him where directly cites Rawlings sound as an influence!
nice build up in the solo to the bridge
Chris should really take over Prairie Home
lol
I cant help but hear this as a slow version of Thiles song. I dont like it nearly as much. still great though.
Gillian wrote this song It's from the 2003 Soul Journey album
His version isn't as good.
