Every time I hear these two I think about Gillian living in Cali and listening to KPIG radio and telling the story about hearing Ralph Stanley for the first time and being so moved she changed her course, These two were made for each other in every way, They are so damn real, when I was living in Nashville I didn't even know I was driving past their house in my 1962 Chevy Pickup and she hollered out NICE TRUCK I slowed down then stopped they were both hand washing their vintage cars outside and telling me how much the neighborhood association hated their ol rust buckets, I was raided on traditional music and yes, not a bad song in the catalog. love love love And I lived in SF and I sure don't miss that cold ass park, man.
What a TERRIFIC show!!! Just love every aspect of it... the Nudie suits, the vocals and harmonies, David's playing on that old little archtop, Gillian's absolutely pure sense in those wonderful songs... so real as to be sublime... and treasured!
Yo man i was at this concert live about 50-75 yrds back dead center and i got teary eyed right from the get go, and it wasnt just the glare off the rinestones
These two are the hidden gem of American music. A serious class act. I breaks my heart to see them age. At least their music just gets better and better. Rawlings and that mid 30's f-hole archtop Epiphone are the ultimate instrument/musician combination.
YEAH FRICKIN RIGHT!!! all of it, all, all, is beyond perfection of the highest order. i am completely blown away. no seriously blown away! messy isn't it?
These two are a musical treasure of the highest order. Her voice and songs can soothe my spirit when it's most troubled, as it happens to be at present. Thanks so much for posting this...
I haven't seen your Music for years, I moved to hole in wall in the Midwest, where it's a hundred miles or more to go see a concert, I have missed your Music, it is November 22nd, 2020, our country is STILL in the GRIPS of a Tyranical Dictator, Hopefully that will end SOON!!!! GOD BLESS the Two of You, You Look GREAT, Wish I coulda gone to that Concert, looks like it was a Beautiful Day
geese, i just was thinking. I've been listening to Gillian for over 20 years now. I was gonna say she's like family to me now, but she's always felt like that to me.
Need a CD/DVD set of this performance, IT'S SO DAMN GOOD! No surprise to me regarding these two, far as I know they both have earned their keep in the music industry and then some. Feel so honored and humbled to have their music well-represented in my ever-growing collection... ;-)
Love it! here are the songs: Wayside/Back in Time Look at Miss Ohio Rock of Ages Elvis Presley Blues The Way It Goes Hard Times Six White Horses Orphan Girl Revelator I'll Fly Away Mr. Tambourine Man
I have seen them live and they are simply out of this world and THIS performance is just insane. Wow! Mother Nature providing a wind machine and Mother Maybelle coming through those strings. Just amazing.
Gillian had her capo in the wrong location. Had to stop playing and move it. Picked up the song in progress. What a pro! David becomes one with his guitar. He plays rhythm, lead, solos, fills, and ornamentation, sometimes all at the same time!. What a pro. Playing blow/draw chords on a harmonica in a neck rack while playing highly syncopated banjo tune is impressive. Gillian’s singing is perfect right on the note. Her rhythm and fingerpicking guitar playing is great too. What a pro.
WOW I'm just flabbergasted and floored by this 59.59 performance...heart, skill, art, sheer brilliance and an incredible work ethic, WOW, really love love this and my daughter ali who showed me...thanks for the pleasure this is gonna keep on giving, thanks
Absolutely stunning. my wife Linda and I attened two HSB's but not in2015 because we moved to SC. Great video, wind and sun were nice. Great couple, David's guitar plying IS special, but it's the interplay between taelnted husband and wife that makes this extraordinary. warren Helman's vision shines here.
Magical combo these two. Fell in love with them after watching the Revelator DVD. Rawlings playing is amazing. I love so many guitar pickers but he’s in a league of his own.!
45:40 how is it even possible to build that kind of intensity playing into a microphone with a clanky dime store guitar. That is the most amazing thing to me. How he is not breaking strings is a mystery.
Wow - and wearing matching Nudie's Western Wear! I just now googled "Nudie's Western Wear Gillian" And viola! A photo of Dave & Gillian on the Oscars red carpet in these suits!
she's beautiful in so many ways, loved her ever since "O' Brother..." their work together is great too! recommend checking out the Newport festival too, it brought me here...
I got me a new favorite. this is my kind of music. If you haven't listened to their "NPR tiny desk" performance I urge you to. I heard her on a college radio station singing "paper wings" and had to search for her. So glad I found all this great music.
Thanks for putting this up - most recent performance I've seen - great as ever! Shame one of the camera operators appears to have been blind or asleep.
I've been listening to her for I guess, 6, or 7 yrs now....and I can't help but feel like she belongs to another, more sensible, and more noble, time period, say the 1930s. Also a little known fact; she makes a cameo appearance in the movie "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou":)
Cherry picking involved in any such declarative statements... 1930s saw continued institutionalized racial segregation, Hitler's genocide and war well underway, n.t.m. vast racial and gender inequality, including the legality of spousal r*pe, Native people forcibly sterilized (which is ongoing in some places) and forced into abusive boarding schools, the public lynching of black people by whites, and public lack of environmental concience and to some extent even environmental conciousness.
Thanks for posting this. A really nice person I don't know gave us a pass to sit in the restricted area right in front of the stage. I had never seen them before. They were my favorite of everyone I saw there!

KPIG...got me through the 'oughts.
I think this is literally the only band I know who never did a song I don't like. Saw them live years ago in the UK. Excellent.
I love the sound, the wind, the trees and nature…. This is the America I want to visit.
For sure David Rawlings is a lucky boy. He plays the guitar like a god and he has Gillian Welch sings and smiles for him.
What a TERRIFIC show!!! Just love every aspect of it... the Nudie suits, the vocals and harmonies, David's playing on that old little archtop, Gillian's absolutely pure sense in those wonderful songs... so real as to be sublime... and treasured!
Brit here. Please come back to the UK, we need you badly.
I begged gillian twice over 10 years span to play wayside in SF, they finally did!
i may have been cause of hotboxing 😞/lol
was 3rd row center.
Rawlings' lead parts are basically perfect. Guy is incredible. Teared up just listening... watching their connection, couldn't hold back.
Yo man i was at this concert live about 50-75 yrds back dead center and i got teary eyed right from the get go, and it wasnt just the glare off the rinestones
Same! 💜
I’d be crying if I were there. Big hugs, guys.
InstaBlaster.
I thought I was the only one...
These 2 live at the Lyric Theater in Birmingham Alabama is one of the best concerts I've even seen in person. Every single song was awesome.
Miss Ohio, great song with one of the best lines of all time "I want to do right, just not right now."
That's likely an Augustine reference. Lord, make me holy, but not quite yet.
These two are the hidden gem of American music. A serious class act. I breaks my heart to see them age. At least their music just gets better and better. Rawlings and that mid 30's f-hole archtop Epiphone are the ultimate instrument/musician combination.
No words. I'm so happy and content right now.

Gillian and her husband are freaking awesome man.
This is MY kind of "power couple". Humble and pure f'n talent!
Dave's guitar work on Revelator is making the tears come
Fly away on high , music from heaven. Beautiful.
I would have loved to hear Townes cover one of their songs
Absolutely love!

Absolutely fabulous concert, thanks so much for posting this 🙏
This is what I call perfection
This version of "Hard Times" gives me chills.

The energy that flashes out from Gillian's eyes at 23:17 is incredible in this tale/song !!
Dave and Gillian really tearing it up there. Wind and all. I love this group! So glad someone posted this. Real. Truth. Talent. 👍🏻

What a wonderful looking setting for that music. Wish I'd been there.

So good they make me cry.
Both of them are purest dynamite. Rawlings reworks the whole idea of acoustic lead guitar.

I wonder what you think was sensible and noble about the 1930s, anyway?
This needs a bump, cause Hard Times ain't gonna Rule My Mind.

Gillian Welch you are so BEAUTIFULL
It is almost like if the Carter family had a shredder in the family back in the 40's.
