Hi, I have recently purchased an e bike. Never did I think at 67 that I would be riding again and here I am doing around 60km a week, weather permitting. Absolutely love it. Find your video’s very helpful, cheers from Melbourne Australia
hello fellow melbournian. I hope you're still riding. It's pretty magic.
Having an ebike has been a huge blessing! I still have to pedal sometimes, but I no longer have to pedal all the time! This means I don't get more excercise than my aging body can handle anymore!
I just built an eBike! Converted a Mongoose mountain bike with a 1000W 48V system. The hardest part was getting the pedal crank off to put the pedal assist sensor on. I went to the local bike shop and the owner let me borrow the tool I needed to get it off. I am so amazed at the community of biking now. I showed him pictures of my eBike and now he wants to see it in person, going to ride up there, on pedal assist of course! I spent 30+ hours building it, but it was worth the effort! I really like this channel it helped me out during my build. THANK YOU!!!! I would love one of your books!
I built myself an ebike from a kit, with the main goal of getting fit. I could never ride for very long on a regular bike because I over heat easily. Ebikes make biking enjoyable.
Great Video, keep up the good work, 9 years of riding ebikes here and still doing it, at 77. Thanks
That is awesome!
Love this! I've been wanting more info on e-bikes and fitness. Thank you!
Great advice and I DO try to get out every day!! I had my 1984 Specialised Stumpjumper converted--absolutely brilliant.😎
Going through some videos since finding this channel and love these tips, thanks again! As I'm new to ebikes having not yet committed (might wait for spring '21 at this stage), these tips are essential to success!
This was really useful. I have had my ebike (pedal assist) for three years and love it. I live in the heart of the French countryside and cycle along lanes here. I use mine as often as I can - going to the local shops about 11 km away and going to see friends. The best thing I ever got. In the hot summers I try and get out in the evenings as much as possible. Thanks for the tips about power levels. I usually start off in 1 and then tend to either not have the power on, on the flat or have it on around 2 - 3. Thanks again.
I use mine for exercise I could not ride a regular bike but this made it possible .
Just ride the damn bike, even with just pedalling, it still beats staying in the couch or driving a car.
Me and my wife love riding our bikes together! Good vid!
Loveddd this video! Sooo inspiring! Gotta get on my e-bike more often!😀
Just installed an E-switchy Switch 2 kit on my adult trike. I took a ride and feel so blessed to have a way to get around again!
Cool green screen effect with your left hand. I like the tips and can not wait to build an ebike. Your "The Ultimate Do It Yourself EBIKE GUIDE" is very helpful.
Great tips, another great video.
Thanks for sharing I learned a lot.
as a Dutch woman (and you know we looove our bikes ) this is so much fun to watch because we don't really look at our bike as a way of exercising. to us it's just a way of getting from A to B . and when ebikes were introduced in our country some 15 years ago they were mainly sold to senior people because riding an ebike is less demanding on your joints and are also easy to ride for people with condition issues.
nowadays 70 percent of all bikes sold in the Netherlands are ebikes with the most popular ones being them with the motor at the middle axle because that will provide you with the most natural way of riding.
Great video. Thanks for the tips.
Great points like always! Thanks Micah.
I’m considering getting an ebike. Good tips. Thank you.
I was wondering how you got such cool footage, then I read you used a 360 camera. Pretty cool!
Very helpful video. Thanks.
I'm using an ebike to go to work everyday. 40km distance. It's great! Love your vids. From Philippines.
I just start to go to work and shopping on the ebike. Great workout
Very good information. Thanks.
GOOD VIDEO!! I JUST GOT 1 4DAYS AGO AND LOVE IT!!!
Another great video! Thank!
Great advice. I enjoy cycling solo, but look forward to my club ride every week to catch up with friends. I would add to your tips with advice to join the online cycling forums and cultivate a healthy relationship with your local bike shop.
That's a great suggestion, thanks for the tip!
Thanks for the tips in this video … I pick up my first e-bike on Saturday, though I have an ordinary hybrid bike, but never use it. I tried a friends e-bike a few days ago, and was amazed at its performance.
I have now ordered an e-bike, it’s being fitted out and it should be ready to collect this weekend.
Getting out and getting exercise was one of the main reasons for getting the e-bike. With the power assist, I just thought it would give me incentive and motivation to use a bike, rather than have it sitting collecting dust, like my Canondale which I bought about five years ago, and only used twice. I’m really looking forward to picking up my Volt Pulse, and getting out on many of the cycle paths we have in Bristol, and getting out in nature too.
Much thanks for this interesting, informative, and engaging video …. excellent delivery of narrative too.
Much thanks, Steve, Bristol, U.K. 🙏👍🏻 🚴
Great video!
Nice knowing you can put some exercise with an e-bike
While I wait for my Frey EX to arrive I tried out a demo Specialized Levo SL with a friend (he ended up buying a Turbo Levo) and rode one of my hardest mtn. biking days ever. I was so surprised how much exercise you still get even with pedal assist. You just go further, 12 miles and 2700 ft. elevation gain, and faster, 5 hrs .
Nice video. Thanks.
Great advice thanks!
live these videos micah
Another great video!
Great tips!
My very first bike was a red Western Auto Rollfast back in the day. That was my first introduction to the fun and excitement of bike riding. "What I'd give to renew that first-time experience and joy of biking."
I have a 29er bike and damaged my wheel. I've been looking into an ebike kit. I don't know a lot about making batteries but the no weld kit looks tempting. I think i will try that kit on my daughters electric razr scooter.
Great information!!
Hi I have just placed an order for a E Bike it’s the ancheer folding bike.
Love your ytube posts
Great tips, Micah!
With the second point I'd argue that it depends on a person's situation. I've got a full-time job and in my spare time I'm developing my own video game and so rarely have time for fitness nowadays, however this has only been in the last 4 or 5 months due to having had some (albeit limited) degree of cycling fitness prior to that. I still feel I have retained enough fitness to start at pedal assist 1 even though I haven't done any cycling since then. Love your videos by the way. Thanks again :)
Good ideas, not too stressful.
Getting mine soon!
I actually took my peddle assist off, and use the throttle only when I need a bit of help, so I mostly just peddle normally, but when I hit a hill or taking off from a start, I hit the throttle and it takes a lot of strain off of my knees (which is why I stopped biking a few years back). I wear my Fitbit and just keep my heart around 125 bpm (between 120 and 140).
Ok, I have been over thinking about which e-bike to buy, but after this, I will just go for the one I like, I mean the one that for me has the best design. Thank you!
your mental game is spot on.....
Great advice Micah!
The best thing that happened to bicycling is e-bicycling ;)
That Ampler looks sweet!
That's good advice. I found that when I was biking to school it was great daily exercise. I miss that but my daily 30 mile commute to work is just too long.
bought a Pace 500 last summer 2021 and put over 800 miles on it ... great fun and good exercise
Thank you, I have subscribed
Good tips
Im always watching your video for more tips to how care my ebike im whatching your video here in the philipines tama kaya to english ko translated lang sa gogle
Im glad you said about the price. Its easy to get caught up in expensive bikes. My nakto pony at $650 over performs my expectations. I needed to know if i would like ebikes. I love it. I now want to convert my specialized rockhopper. Recommendations for a 750 front hub conversion kit would be appreciated!☺️
Got my first ebike its a 16 inch wheel .fouldeble Valk bike .its great fun .
Nice video!!!
I'm gettin' closer to the free book...I can feel it.
Honest advice
That was great!
I ride my eBike to my preferences of having battery last very long so I pedal a lot and notice the 7 gear Hubs you ride of shifting like a Clutch of various speed and terrain. Say I have 9 levels of PAS on 350watt, Im at PAS5 only on 5th gear GOING 21 MPH but I need to slow down so I go to PAS6( 6 TO 9 IS DOWNSHIFTING POWER,but you can go from 4 to 3 ect) with switching to 4th gear, then PAS7 3rd gear, PAS8 I start applying my disc brakes of the speed slow down I safely stop of 7 feet braking to full stop. It is really fun to learn this as it gets me more knowledgeable of how to use besides looking at specs.
Good tips on fitness :)
Still waiting for my Bafang kit but I'll be joining you soon!
The video shooting is amazing, I’m a visual and above your explanation (which you have a great way to do) the feeling I got in the beginning, you were two to do this video (but in fact seeing after the what you used to do this video with a “drone”) for getting the shots so impressive. I was always in a suspens of the drones would hit an obstacle while you were rolling (post or car ...) BTW nice area to bike ;-)
In fact for this video I used a different camera, a 360 camera, which mimics the drone effect but is much easier to control and doesn't risk hitting things (as much).
The 360 cam worked well. The "tell" in using the 360 cam (vs drone) was how the 360 cam more closely mimicked the ground contour the bike was riding over.
@@EbikeSchool There a particular 360 model recommended?
@@RideShagbark Yes I think insta360 one x gives best bang for your buck
I was really impressed and intrigued by the video as well and wonder if you can briefly explain how a 360º camera works. If it’s not a drone, then how did you have it attached? I could see nothing from the bike. Amazing!
I have a 300watt pedal assist only
ebike cost me $930 weighs only 43lbs with battery, can carry on my shoulder up my apartment stairs, logged over 150miles in 8 days
on hilly terrain just got back from a 30 mile trail ride. Worth every penny. My knees are happy too 😂 most people don't realize you really don't need throttle. If you really want to get a workout, PAS is just fine.
i thought that was a Rad Mission with the batt off lol . Those Ampler bikes well designed . Yes, Ebikes are great for cardio fitness ,used properly they keep you in the Target Heart Zone ❤ unlike a normal bike where you'd just have to slow down to keep from overexerting .
OK, I was going to ask how in the world you were doing this video...then I read about the drone? I hope you do more videos like this.. This was really an nice video....I liked seeing everything around where you were riding. Thanks for posting!
A Juiced scorpion ebike is fun to ride and good exercise. Plus you get a lot of people looking and wondering what it is you're riding.
Good info. After having my Lectric for a few months, I discovered all five points. I'm not an off road fan, though, since my bike has no suspension.
Try letting just a bit of air out of your tires when you go off road. Not too much, just a bit. Those fat tires are almost like suspension.
good tips
Ah, the boring flatlands of FL... thanks for the e bike info.
I've had my e-bike for a couple of weeks and at 76 years old I have enjoyed riding it. Riding a bike after a 30 hiatus meant I had to relearn basic skills such as stopping and starting. Also, my first e-bike was too big and after a couple of incidences, I had to exchange it for a smaller model. Unfortunately, riding to a coffee shop or a store is a problem because of a lack of bike racks or something solid to lock my bike to. E-bike theft is very concerning.
Great video! I'm really interested in how you mic'd that video! Your audio was perfect. What 360 camera did you use? Just bought a Como 5 and your channel has been a hot spot for me. Thanks for your great work!
Sweet video ride-along idea. Looks like Florida. :)
Awesome, thanks for the advice. I've been researching for a number of years about which ebike to get and the options are so overwhelming that it bogs me down and I lose interest. Every once in a while I get back into ebikes but this time I will just choose which kit to get and buy it.
WoW that's a pretty good green screen you got going there. Almost got me convinced 😂😂😂😂😂
No green screen, just 360 camera. Turns out you were double tricked ;-)
Thank you. I still want the ecells😂. They didn’t want to get involved with me for a cross country ride this summer.. maybe next time...
Thanks for the tips! Will decide on E-bike soon -yours looks great! Is that neighborhood Florida-Looks Beautiful. Started to look at relocation-out of Brooklyn!
I added a 1000W rear motor to an existing hybrid bike and I've been loving it. I can ride a lot longer continuously pedaling and use the power when needed for hills. My cousin has Parkinsons. He bought a bike but I don't think he's using it for the same reason I wasn't using mine before (the hills require too much effort). I would love to help him add power to his bike. What do you think?
my best tip is getting a big enough chainwheel up front so you can use full power and still put down power for best speed
I would like a video on how to adjust the power of your ebike. The wattage of the motor, the max amperage of the controller and the voltage of the battery and how they all come together to make a bike with say 1000 watts or 3000 watts. Thanks
Check out his earlier videos, he covers all that and more! Helped me decide on my 1000 watt rear hub motor, 20ah 48v battery, and I love it for myself and my weight, etc..
👍 good one
Very sensible. I must try to avoid pas 1 and 6. And focus on 3
Yes I’m agree with you, do it with somebody, and you will ride more and more.
Lighter the better - once you cycle past the limiter MPH/KPH on an eBike, when there is no assist, then its a real struggle to get what is a heavy bike to really go 5-10 mph/kph faster. The Vado SL (super light) you mention would appear to be a great option, if maybe too premium for some folks first eBike. I have a heavy eBike (Cyrusher fat tire full suspension) and its a monster to manually accelerate (after hitting the limiter).
Thaks for the ADVICE. J.Q.
I did my first short ride on PAS 1 and it seemed great. But I've been riding a heavy old school mountain bike or cruiser 3 days a week. I can;t imagine PAS 5 it would be crazy fast and seems like almost no exercise.
My main tip is the Bafang BBSHD.
Thank you
All makes sense to me !
U have inspired me to get an ebike. Thank u. What camera is good for recording my journey?
Nice vid. Smooth ride and video capture. Also, either you're in great shape or the e- bike you're riding is really easy to pedal. No signs of breathlessness or fatigue on your part.
Looks like a really bike friendly area you were riding in. What part of the country is this?
Finally, for your on safety, you should be careful on the intersections. Seems like you just kept your pace and attention was on making the video. Ride safe and be well.
Honestly I never thought of E-bikes as a source of exercise. Now you've got me thinking one more plus for getting one.
That's one great thing about ebikes. Their like a hybrid bike that you can choose how much excercise you get, vs how much the motor helps you out. The increased speed also makes them more fun for fitness
Here is a good list Micah made for reasons to ride ebikes if you are making a list of reasons to invest.. ua-cam.com/video/Ofj8T80eiO8/v-deo.html
I just use eco to get going, and switch the motor off and just pedal like that, on bike paths that are kind of level, when it starts to get too much I turn on eco mode for little while and then get it moving turn the motor off and keep going my bike is a magnum nomad it's fat tires it's about 75 lb so if I pedal that thing for an hour even on level ground I am exercising, also I am in 1st gear, going slow 5to 10 mph
I aired down the tires for off road trails, and eco works really well, 6lbs is good for rocky jeep trails, Iam doing this for fitness, smooth single track that are level I can turn eco off and get leg exercises
Building a kit, frustrated waiting for a battery from China. I am totally blown away by your videography! How do you get the shot from in front and how do you get such smooth narrative? As a newby I really enjoy your channel!
When will you finish the motorcycle conversion? Really want to see that!!
I love riding with friends
