    Hey Brad. I appreciate you posting during your process. I’m 41 and currently waiting on my medical clearance to start flight training, myself. I’m over in Hickory, NC, so I’m stoked to keep up with someone nearby. Keep the updates coming!

      Dropping another tomorrow! Thanks for watching! Have you selected your school yet?

      @@BradTakesFlight Not entirely. Several things at play. My medical has taken over a year (and lots of $)…long story, but it looks like I’ll have that in hand soon. But I’m gun shy to do too much until that is squared away.
      But my current plan is to do my private license on my own with a local instructor. Then evaluate whether I want to continue that route or look at a big flight school like ATP or Academy of Aviation in Gastonia (who advertises a “first flight to first officer” program that is 6 months and $70k, which seems at face value like a great deal).

      No point in starting if you can’t get a medical. I get that!
      That’s a heck of a deal if you can get it done in that timeframe. I’m sure you’ll have to CFI before the FO happens. Check out all the equipment and make sure they have plenty of planes, even if a few are down for maintenance.

    I flew with $70 headsets while I was exploring things in the beginning. After I finally took my first solo I made the celebratory step of purchasing Bose A30 in time for the cross country stuff. Godspeed with this crazy journey Brad I will be following.

      That’s a great idea. Now you have another set of you ever want to take someone else up. Not a bad way to celebrate either. Best of luck to you as well. Let me know how you progress. ✈️

      I'm 42 and I just passed my PPL checkride back on January 5th after nine months of weekend lessons. I'll add that delays from cancellations due to weather, maintenance, work travel, my family emergencies or my instructor's family emergencies have added two to three months in weekends. I'm an IFR student now, but we've lost quite a bit of flight time from recent winter weather.

      Congratulations on becoming a pilot 🧑‍✈️
      Weather can have a huge effect on how often you can get up in the air.

    Thank you Brad this was very helpful. I’ve been doing ground school for my PPL from Gold seal. I’ll go to the school in April 5th for my orientation which I’m sure they’ll supply some of this like the headset and a bag! So I will hold on till then to make sure I don’t buy something they’ll supply me with but this was definitely helpful! I start flying that same month also which is great.

      Glad I could help! Exciting times ahead for you in April. None of the schools I have talked with provide a headset, but some of them do provide a bag filled with these books for one price. If they do provide you one, then you can just wait to purchase a headset until you graduate. Keep me posted on your progress, and have a blast when you start flying!

    Have you started Kings School yet? Some of it can be pretty dry but I'm slowly making my way through it!

      @BradTakesFlight  2 місяці тому

      I still haven’t gotten access to Kings. I went ahead and purchased Sporty’s + for a month. It’s been ok but the explanation send you to reading material instead of the video that covers the questions content. Hoping to get access to Kings soon.

      @ryanjollie5967 I got some code today! Did you get a code for the career pilot training or four individual codes?

    • @JourneyAboveTheClouds
      @JourneyAboveTheClouds 2 місяці тому

      @BradTakesFlight I got Five separate codes. I just entered them all into my King School account and it shows them all in one place when you login. Private, Instrument, Commercial, Flight Instructor and Fundementals of Instruction, and finally CFII Ground School/Test Prep.

    hello Mr brad i wanted to ask you would I becom a F.O at a major airline if i only have cpl

    • @BradTakesFlight
      @BradTakesFlight  Місяць тому

      No. You’ll have to get your ATP license as well. This requires a lot flight to qualify, 1500 hours.

    • @medamin5147

      @@BradTakesFlight is there are airlines in the U.S that employes pilots with cpl+frozen atpl where i can complete my 1500h

    • @BradTakesFlight
      @BradTakesFlight  Місяць тому +1

      @medamin5147 no airlines but there are other jobs like agriculture, banner towing, skydiving, etc. The fastest way that I’ve heard to build up time is as a CFI.

    • @medamin5147
      @medamin5147 Місяць тому

      Thank's a lot Mr Brad fir responding i hope i won't bother with asking other questions so from the way i see i'm gone have to build some licences before getting my atpl like the ppl IR MEI CPL CFI etc and all of those gone cost me depending on the school 70000$ ?

    • @BradTakesFlight
      @BradTakesFlight  Місяць тому

      @medamin5147 the minimum you’ll need is your, ppl, cpl, and cfi. Adding IFR and CFII would a bonus. MEI isn’t really necessary since there isn’t a huge demand for that one. The cost is highly variable based on location and time available.
