  • Challenge Rules:
    - I can only use my starter in battle.
    - No items in trainer battles except held items.
    - No glitches, exploits, or RNG manipulations.
    First playthrough:
    - No Double Team until level 100
    - 31 IVs across the board
    - Cheating for information is acceptable as a last resort
    Second Playthrough:
    - All bets are off. Complete the game as fast as possible
    - Max 31 IVs unless pursuing Hidden Power
    - The option of a single egg move
    - I will be playing these runs at 4x game speed
    My footage will be edited to give what I consider a better viewing experience. This includes making cuts, fades, and adjusting the speed of the footage to match my commentary.
    I use a software called "PKHeX" to edit my starter, setting things like it's Nature, and IVs to be perfect 31s, or marginally reduced to give specific Hidden Power typing to optimize strategy. All of the Pokémon I use are 100% attainable in the base game. The software allows me to create my "perfect" egg Pokémon in a much shorter timeframe.
    PKHeX also allows me to set my Pokédex total to max after the Round 1 Elite 4. A requirement of Round 2 is catching 60 species and I am only interested in the potential of the Pokémon that I'm running instead of my ability to catch Pokémon optimally.

    100 was an eggseptional legend, even though I'm not a fan iof Pikachu, because of pokemon Yellow. But with surf and substitute it definitely makes it up to it's horribly bad defenses.
    Blackout training is a great option to grind for levels and EVs too,Thanks to Bruno Pikachu's defense EV's were not that bad,for the round 2 champion. That makes me wonder how great Raichu could have been with these boosts?🤔
    And also old habits die hard, it's hard to constantly check if you haven't picked up certain items that are kind of mandatory in your run,but not picking them saves a lot of time that's for sure.😊

    Egg, lets say you were 10 years old and about to go on your Pokémon adventure. What 6 pokemon would you make your team of? (Remember pokemon are real and this adventure is going to take you across the land far and wide. It will be difficult and your Pokemon will not only be your team but also your tools, your pets and your friends).
    Rules for simplicity: gen 1 and 2 only, no legendaries, may select 1 starter only (if you choose to get a pokemon from one of the professors).
    Bonus: what would be your goal to become a "pokemon master"? Catch all the pokemon? Beat the elite 4? Just to adventure and have a fun life with pokemon? Something else?

    Hey Eggsceptional :)
    Congratz for the 100 :D
    A thing I have to mention when playing Pikachu (or Marowak).
    You said early in the run, that it would be either one shot or get one shot.
    Then why did you bother with defense EVs?
    You had about 170+- SpAtk Evs (first run), when you mentioned, you had them all maxed out. If you would have maxed out those SpAtk EVs, you'd have more favorable ranges, since every SpAtk stat you gain is basicly doubled.
    You could've maybe saved some time cause you didn't need to overlevel as much, since you gained the stats needed more effective (Your round 1 Spatk Stat of 177 would be acquired as soon as Pikachu reaches lv 80 instead of lv 90)
    Your 2nd run SpAtk stat of 182 could be reached at lv 83.
    I don't know if that's efficient or a time waste, but that's a thing, I would consider (Psyduck in Fuchsia while surfing gives 1 SpAtk EV and is between lv 20 and 40/ 230 - 460 exp)
    Besides that, enjoyable as allways! Kepp it up :D

    • @Eggsceptional
      @Eggsceptional  Місяць тому +1

      The defense EVs were mostly geared towards Round 2. Making our decoy tougher allowed me to tank a Rock Tomb later in the game allowing us to avoid more threatening things like Machamp's Cross Chop. I've found that maxing out SpA EVs takes a huge time investment.
      I don't have any fancy routing software or anything, just anecdotal bits from the first run, and hope for the second :P There's always room for improvement, especially when I'm only doing 2 runs per video. Thanks for the tips!

    Eggcellent sir, truly Eggcellent. 1st great to see you back doing Poke runs, feels like a long time since I saw you do one.
    2nd, oh my wow Pika-chad was awesome, you definitely have improved the way you run, I'm glad to see Scott has been imparting his wisdom. that 1st run went about the way I thought it might, nearly identical to mine actually, although you definitely had the better moveset to play with, surf is definitely better than HP water and HP ice is kind perfect, those grass types were a nightmare with just electric and water moves. I stand by the idea of messing around with other HP's to see how the coverage might help, but I think you got the set right. just surprised you didn't throw on volt tackle for style points, might of been handy for dealing with Jynx if nothing else.
    2nd run, I can't comment, it was near enough perfect, 0 resets and just a little blackout training, job done you got through. was there any consideration to thunder and rain dance over sub strats, I know it would of meant taking one hit, but at that level, taking one hit was possible, the added power of thunder and the boosted surf might of saved a few minutes grinding. aside from speculating about the moveset, which lets face it, we're always going to do whenever its an option, that was perfect, one hell of a 100th run.
    I mentioned in the the chat Gen 4 Pika, I stand by it, you will have great fun. Light Ball for a start will boost all your moves not just the special ones and thanks to the physical special split, you get a wider variety of options. moves like volt tackle become monstrous, surf is still an option, but you also get grass know which is a special version of low kick, you also get nasty plot and I think sweet kiss from pichu if you evolve through the run. and the cherry on top is HP is now all special so you can have a rarely seen special rock or fighting move on top of all of the other special options you had in Gen 3, add onto that Sub is now a TM so you can learn and relearn as you please. so imagine if you will, a Pikachu with surf, nasty plot, Electric STAB and any other special move you could think of rotated through a run as you please. are you tempted yet?
    my runs on Fire Red and Leaf Green are nearly don now, I can't recall what I was on last time we talked, but both my clefairy runs are done, special was easy, physical with belly drum I messed around with metronome a lot, but eventually just went with STAB, shadow ball and brick break to sweep. I did a team run using the rivals team from fire red, replacing Blastoise with Gyrarados. I caught a wild one so I could test the HP and got HP flying, which on a Gyrarados is awesome, surprisingly smooth run. right now doing another rival team run, just using the Yellow Rival team, which is a real pain, Cloyster is useless, ninetails isn't the best, Sandslash is ok, but I'd prefer any other ground type and Magnaton has no moveset, is going ok, but the grinding sessions are so slow, especially hunting the EV's.
    I might do a Gyrarados solo before I'm done, but I am more than likely going to start on Sapphire and Ruby runs next, same kind of team runs as leaf green and fire red to start off with, poison, sandstorm immune, bugs, fighting, maybe a dragon run and then start the solo bugs and starters plus anything else that comes to mind along the way. I will genuinely miss the FRLG runs, but I can always come back to them later.

      Thank you, thank you. It feels good to be putting out another Pokémon vid. This one was a blast. I have been trying to be aware of not falling into the same strategic ruts. HP Ice just felt so good! With Volt Tackle, you know me. Recoil terrifies me.
      I had really considered including Rain Dance. It was that threat of losing too much speed. Not being able to one shot = death, as you know. I would say I got my nature wrong though. Going Modest instead would have saved some speed. It was a great 100th! Now it's time to aim for the 200th.
      Yeah, that Gen 4 moveset on Pikachu sounds ridiculous. I need my overlay in Gen 4 to be better, but I might have an alternative. I just need to be playing it :P
      Ahh yes, I can see that being a bit of a grind. That'll be a pretty killer team when it's fully assembled. Which Eeveelution did you end up going with? Gyarados is a run that I need to get back to. Not having used a single Rare Candy has continued to bother me to this day. I've missed my FRLG runs so I know you'll go back to it too.

      @jptheflipper3825 Місяць тому

      @@Eggsceptional its been good seeing you back on here. I could tell you were enjoying this one, it was such an easy one, you can enjoy yourself much more when you're stressed by a run. HP ice did do its job, can't complain, when I ran Racihu I was stuck without it or HP water, I had grass, you find you appreciate the standard HP when you don't have a good one in these runs.
      I was gonna ask about your choice of nature, considering how frail Pikachu is, have a minus speed nature seemed like a hindrance, modest would of made sense, you never used the physical after all. rain dance is very handy for Pikachu and worth the risk, it can mean the different between KO and 2 hit and Pikachu rarely gets a chance to 2 hit safely so risking it for the KO is worth it
      its been a long time since I've seen your en 4 overlay so I can't comment, maybe borrow Scott's or use it to build up your own, it could work. and oh yes, Gen 4 Pikachu is awesome, I have 2 of them for competitive, one physical , one special, both are powerful little mice. physical volt tackle with a light ball is very OP and KO's my enemy Milotic when I'm in a pinch more than I care to mention.
      it was a rather solid team against the R1 and R2, very few KO's on my team, for the R2 I upgraded the sets for most of the team and swept. I couldn't decide on which eeveelution, Vaporeon would of made sense as Shellder is not available in Leaf Green but the rest of the team is, but I wanted to do the team itself without the eevee like I did with the fire red rival team run. Magnaton, ninetails and cloyster, are the options depending on eeveelution and the rest was sandslah, exeggutor and alakazam, very effective. I think you'd like sandslash for a run, has a decent set and gets swords dance for R2. I'll tell you this though, not counting HP all of them had a very poor movepool, most STAB only and limited coverage.
      I decided on one last FR run before sapphire and ruby, a gyrarados. getting it will be the worst part, but I have a plan, I shall buy the magikarp from the salesman and replace squirtle (as per my rules) evolve it with 15 transferred over rare candies and test its HP. I want HP flying ideally, but anything physical aside from ground or steel will do the job. if I don't get it, I reset, going back to the save before I bought the magikarp and start again. this will take a long time, but will be worth it. once I have the right magikarp, I will start the run proper.
      if and when you go back to your gyrarados run, would you consider a HP flying for it, as mad as this sounds, but in Gen 3 it is the best STAB move it gets aside from a rain boosted hydro pump, as I found with parasect having a flying move is very handy neutral damage against a lot of the game

    It seems like the main obstacles were Fighting-types oddly enough and not Ground-types. As a side effect of buffing the Fighting-type in general, Machamp and the Hitmons got substantial boosts to their Special Defense in Gen 2, and Heracross also has decent Special bulk. Paired with most of these Pokemon having Earthquake in Round 2, yeah.

    Nice video.
    I'll disagree with the nature. A nature with minus attack would have been better than minus speed. There were points in the first run where the speed mattered and a minus attack would have meant you did less damage to yourself with confusion which would have been nice if there was bad luck.
    I liked seeing some league grinding in the second run. In the first run did you consider grinding against Lorelei and Bruno rather than doing cycling road and victory road. I definitely think its something you should consider sometimes to speed up your grinding.

    • @Eggsceptional
      @Eggsceptional  Місяць тому +2

      I agree with your disagreeing with my nature! Modest would have been much better option. In the first run I was worried about needing Brick Break for Tyranitar, but in run 2, Modest was the obvious choice.

    Im only about 15 mins in so far but i feel like secret power or return aren't the worst ideas ever. Pikachu is gonna have better physical attack until after you beat Blaine and alternative coverage is ALMOST never a bad idea. Especially since you'd only be giving up thunderwave anyway, which I don't think you've used even once (correct me if im wrong)

    • @Eggsceptional

      This was my mentality in the first run. I definitely could have used more physical moves, but there wasn't a lot motivating me to do so. You're correct, I never once used Growl OR Thunder Wave in that 4th move slot. I'll chalk it up to being a bit rusty with solo runs. That's my eggscuse ;)

  • @Chronoflation
    @Chronoflation 3 дні тому +1

    Honestly, I think doubling down on Sp Atk EVs would be better than Defense. Sure, he survived that Machamp EQ, but with light ball effectively doubling the gains from your EVs, if you had a remotely significant amount of EVs left from maxing out sp atk for Pikachu, some 100 or so, then a lot of those hits into red may have turned into ranges or possibly even guaranteed KOs. I'm curious about the math on this, are you able to see it on your end?

    • @Eggsceptional
      @Eggsceptional  3 дні тому +1

      I don't have route files or anything breaking this down, no. The problem I encounter when going hard into SpA EVs is that there are only so many available without going off the beaten path. I could get more from wild battles, or going back to say Pokemon Tower, but I feel this would have had a negative impact on completion time.

    • @Chronoflation
      @Chronoflation 2 дні тому +1

      @@Eggsceptional ah, yeah, that makes sense. I wonder if there's a way to route in like 100 more sp atk EVs relatively efficiently, even if it's maybe a minute or 2 slower than the other necessary grinding you'd do anyways 🤔

      @@Chronoflation Probably the most reliable place to train for SpA EVs is just outside Vermillion with the VS Seeker. There's a trainer there with 3 Magnetons (2 SpA each) that can be rebattled. As far as speed doing it? No idea :P

    • @Chronoflation
      @Chronoflation 23 хвилини тому

      @@Eggsceptional oh yeah, vs seeker rebattling feels like it's be pretty slow. But maybe. You'd need to battle him like 15 times though. Not Modest, but Quiet? On a pure special attacker? 🤨 Isn’t speed a concern against Starmie, Raichu, and Aerodactyl?
    There’s not a single physical attack worth using when you have a Light Ball, unless you have Fly against Heracross, and even then, it’s barely better than STAB Thunderbolt, mostly just because Heracross has slightly lower physical defense. (Note: There’s nothing up through Gen 3 that resists Electric, Ice, and Water coverage excluding Shedinja, and only Magneton, Heracross, Sneasel, and Medicham take neutral from those types while being 4x weak to a physical type, but two of those are extremely fragile and three don’t appear in any major fights.)
    Also, Steelix and Heracross probably had ranges with Earthquake. If they roll an OHKO, they go for it. If they don’t roll an OHKO, they use Rock Tomb for speed control. (The Hitmonchan in your second playthrough has me doubting this, since it went for Sky Uppercut when you were at full health but Rock Tomb when you were at half health. Does the Gen 3 AI calculate misses when rolling for damage?)
    Also I was low-key expecting a port of Partner Pikachu from Let’s Go. But with Light Ball too. 😂

    • @Eggsceptional
      @Eggsceptional  Місяць тому +2

      Yessss.. upon reflection Modest would have been a much better nature in the second playthrough.
      Generally, yes the AI will go for the knockout as the highest priority. In fairness to the Hitmonchan, when he selected the move I was still at 75% health instead of 50%. With Steelix though, after that first sub was out if he didn't go for Rock Tomb on the first it was a slow death from there.
      I've never played anything past Gen 5 (and I've only played that once). I wasn't even aware of what a Partner Pikachu was until after making this video :P
