- Few series have remakes that hold as much significance as the Pokémon series, they always bring innovations despite being remakes and they are eagerly anticipated by fans for years, sometimes even more so than new games, despite being released only every six years. And all of this was initiated by Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen, born out of a very specific need from Game Freak. The announcement and quick release surprised everyone, with only a few weeks between the reveal and launch of the games. Despite a discreet promotion, the games had a lightning-fast start, but sales quickly slowed, which may indicate a mixed reception, moreover, they faced strong criticism from journalists, some saw it as a game with no reason to exist, offering nothing substantially new, while others considered it an excellent title that enhanced the first generation so much that it became outstanding. As is often the case with Pokémon games, opinions vary widely. But surprisingly, despite being controversial, this game had a significant impact on the Pokémon franchise and even on Nintendo as a whole.
So, how did the idea of a Pokémon remake on the Game Boy Advance arise, especially when the console is compatible with Game Boy games? How did Game Freak develop a remake of an iconic first generation? Why did it cause such a division among journalists upon release, and why is it one of the lowest-rated Pokémon games? Moreover, how did it influence not only the Pokémon franchise but also the Nintendo consoles of that era? This is the story and the analysis of Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen, the strange remake of the first generation.

I sincerely hope you enjoy this video, I loved working on it since FireRed and LeafGreen have a pretty interesting story!
Sorry that my English is not perfect, it's not my native language.
Made by Sakharu, voiced over by Brad Ziffer.
Video très professionnel, comme toujours.

Very professional video, as always.
Hi, may i know what mic you are using for this video? Thanks
Pay may a few dollars and I'll clean up the little English mistakes before you record
This was amazing. Very professionally made. I was disappointed to see so few videos on your channel so please make many, many more. ❤
yes awesome, I was always hoping for somebody to make a quality video talking about fire red in this format
Mr. Baguette, this is just outstanding. Thank you so much for making this, I really enjoyed watching it.
great video! super well done I can't believe it's not from a bigger channel. the voice over is super relaxing btw
I absolutely love your channel and the way each video is written. It puts you in the shoes of someone living in that era, it sounds more present tense than past tense. Very engaging and keeps my attention. Very good storytelling.
It gets me so stoked every time I see a new one of these videos!
I love the small clues you leave in the videos eventually leading to the reveal of you being french
Dude, nice work. I came here from your N64 video. Well worth it. I look forward to checking out more, you are very informative and very pleasant to hear presenting. Professionally done.
I see what you mean about the music being made for the Game Boy. I always feel more drawn to original NES and Game Boy than later consoles, whether handheld or home consoles.
baguette uploaded. We eating good today. Never knew baguettes could give makes such good videos and be delicious bread!
Wait what did you call the Elite Four members? Peter? Aldo? :D Are those their names in another language like in german Lance being Siegfried?
Those names are from the French version. This can happen from time to time as Sakharu is from France and lately has been translating his amazing videos in English.
Take a look at his main channel, there’s some really good stuff. He also has a Pokémon themed channel « le Mont argenté »
Got yourself a sub good sir. Fantastic retrospective.
As always, incredible! Thank you 😊
My following of Pokemon has been pretty casual to be honest; Blue and the Stadiums are the only ones I spent a lot of time on. But I can't deny the games kept the lights on at Nintendo during the years when they couldn't keep up with Sony and Microsoft in the console department.
Took a chance on a random rec and this is great.
Such a great video so far! I absolutely love these. Can’t wait to finish it. 🙌 Keep up the great work!
That map point is weak..seriously man no one liked having to scroll through the whole map. Nobody
1:14:22 Wait I think the music for island's 4, 5, 6, 7 actually make sense! The LAST section of this game has music from the FIRST sections of the previous gen, G/S/C! If you played through them before and reach the end of this journey on Kanto, you will hear a familiar song and be reminded of the start of your previous journey through Johto and the next part of this story!
If you've not played through G/S/C before, you reach this area with new music and for you it's naturally part of the game since you've never heard these songs before. Then if you liked the game enough to finish it, you might continue to play Pokémon and try the other games and would eventually hear the song again!
This is what happened to me, I eventually played HG/SS for the first time and I heard this music! I was not expecting it at all so it was very pleasant! Made me feel really cozy inside and made me love it hehe
The devs most probably weren't thinking that far ahead but I think it all tights together really nicely 😆
Wonderful video BTW, I enjoyed it very much! 😊
i've been eagerly awaiting your next upload!
As always, flawless work!
Thank you for your comprehensive video on this subject! I learned new things about what was going on inside Nintendo, which may have influenced the resulting games we've grown to love over the years. I just have to comment on the beginning part, where you were going through the many remakes in Pokémon series and as the Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl clips rolled around I just cringed. Sure they updated the underground minigame, but as a whole I feel it was a total let down in the saga of Pokémon remakes. It shouldn't be even compared to something like HGSS or ORAS.
I want to add, that I really enjoyed the way you went through different aspects of the FRLG, like the art style, play experience, the difficulty etc. It's very refreshing and I'd like to see more videos with this kind of exploration into games.
Love your videos the quality is just remarkable
Thank you for the upload Sakharu :)
I was in shock when I was 10 and I saw this weird looking red dinosaur thing and kinda palmed it off in Cairns Australia. Then later I saw the red/green remakes and because of the shiny green box I had to go for it. Then maybe a year later I was walking out of curry's in the England with sapphire unaware of the journey I was about to embark on. I loved crystal but i was young. It's not until that day I was driving home with my dad just staring at the back of that sapphire box. I nearly picked torchic but I'm glad I went mudkip...because what I saw my first blaziken I was like "wtf is that!?"
the filter on red/blue is a little too much in that case. good video
I think the Sevii Islands Team Rocket content is meant to give a bit of context to why Team Rocket are still around in the Johto games, especially since it's confirmed that the final two Rockets that you fight there are Ariana and Archer from HeartGold/SoulSilver.
Great video!!
Wow, an hour and 40 minutes just flew by like that, huh.
I vaguely remember the day I had gotten FR, from Walmart. I remember it being in those bins that used to sit in the aisles. I remember fishing it out, and asking for it. But that was my introduction to pokemon. The timing is a little hazy, as I try to remember because I remember having the gameboy and FR for years before I even got a DS and got a GEN 4 game.
Not sure if anyone mentioned this yet but I though they had to change the music in Lavandar Town because it has some sort of effect on people
Fire Red and Leaf Green were the first pokemon games I pre-ordered and I have pre-ordered every Pokemon game since.
Great job bro
Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen is the peak of Pokemon games. Best Pokemon, best artworks, best music. It lacks physical/special split but it is amazing.
I believe Gen 5 was the epitome of what a pokemon game should be.
Amazing video!
Growlith pronunciation got me. I thought it was growl (because it's a dog) ithe
Hi Sakharu Baguette! Can you do a Console Documentary on the Sega Dreamcast?
There's one in french about the end of SEGA. Saturn + Dreamcast. I don't know when it will come in english. My favourite videos of Sakharu are those about Neo Geo, Xbox and Id Software.
Great choice
Actually in red and blue. Talking to Mom healed you similarly to the console in leaf green . So ya
Aldo is a French "translation". His name in the English version is Bruno.
about the sevii islands i am sad about the english translation, because in the spanish translation they are called differently! The sevii island are called Archi7, island 1 is called island prima, island 2 is called island secunda, and so on, is a little different
Could you do an analysis of Pokémon Yellow? How is it different from Red and Blue? Does it have its own storyline? I've always been confused as to its place in the Pokémon universe.
Also, why are there always two games released each time? Red-Blue, Sword-Shield, Indigo-violet? Etc.
The short answer on the two version thing is that it started out as a way for the games to be a social experience. Locking some Pokemon based on version encourages trading with other players. Nowadays it's just a way for them to make more money.
@@765craven4 Thanks for the info.
@cubefreak123 Thanks for the info. Now I'm wondering why they didn't just put a few battles with Jesse and James in Red-Blue, since, I assume, you can choose Pikachu as your sttter if you want. I thought Yellow was much more heavily influenced by the Anime, while Red-Blue went in their own direction as far as story went.
@cubefreak123 Ahh, I see. Thanks again for the info.
@@Heather-Brthat’s because the original red/green were launched before the anime was ever conceived, and red/blue are simply international translations of the original games (with a couple minor updates)
Yellow was released AFTER the international success of the franchise and therefore used the anime as a template. That’s why it’s different and a little more fleshed out than its predecessors
🔥
i never liked the chubby characters
I wonder if the shiny hunting legendary Pokémon is one of the reasons GF refuses to release these games on NSO?.
What mic do you use 😊
Is Lance known as Peter is a different language version of the game?
Yeah, he’s Peter in France and Siegfried in Germany for example
Who the fugg is Peter?!
do one about the hoenn gen 3 and gen 6 remakes pls thank you
Gold and silver was the best remake change my mind
Wrong names confused me at first. Then read comments. France
You really gotta narrate these vids yourself. Follow the AI voice if you have to
FRLG are the second best remakes in the franchise. They respect the originals and didn't add a ton of new things that interferes with that faithfulness. BDSP is even better. I love those two remakes. Lets Go Pikachu and Eevee are enjoyable even though they are less faithful than FRLG and BDSP.
