I love corsetry! I took lingerie design when I was in school. A tip I learned was to always make sure you have at least four layers of fabric for your corset. You want to have a self/exterior layer, a lining layer usually out of something really strong like cotton coutile, a muslin interlining, and another layer like horsehair interfacing. It just helps keep everything really strong and reinforced so that when you lace it up, it won't tear or stretch!
Ok uh just to make sure, my like fabric sandwich should look like: exterior layer (the pretty fabric) - cotton muslin - Horsehair interfacing - coton coutille ? What does the cotton muslin do because when trying to research a bit it wasn't really the most used fabric for interlining.
yes. i studied costuming in college and the first year the new professor from the Guthrie theatre joined staff, 3 period shows were done, 3 different styes of corsets were needed. she was amazing. (this was 1980 so corsets were not the fashion in everyday wear..lol) heavy cotton "duck" (like a canvas) was the foundation-2layers. if that was used, the interfacing wasn't needed. then the self-so we had 3 layers. with today's fabrics, your advice of 4 layers that include an interfacing is a great one. the boning will also have a tendency to poke through on the ends so the extra layer protects from that. also smaller stitches are a must. go down to a 2 as there is a lot of tension on the threads. having a tighter stitch also reinforces so there is no tearing or stretching.
YOU KNOW WHAT I DO WITH my corsets now. i add zippers on the side so i dont have to deal with the strings. i still ad the strings and tie accordingly, but i put in an hide away zipper. :)
You know, this is very dangerous when I just discovered such a cute fabric shop in my new city... I can already imagine this with like half the fabrics there, so cuute ❣
I'm glad Kiana prefaced this as not historically accurate because neither is Bridgerton haha. Corsets were not worn in the regency period.. The end result was so cute though!

It turned out so cute! I plan on making one for myself and I was wondering how comfortable the corset is? In the pattern description it says that there's a waist reduction of 2-4 inches. I'm looking to make it more for style and not for waist cinching. If you or anyone else whose made this could let me know how it fit, that would be great!
Gotcha- I was able to lace mine up pretty comfortably without feeling like I was suffocating haha, but it definitely is made to give you that hourglass look... I would say it is probably due to the fact that my waist does cut in on the sides a lot so that probably helped me be more comfortable
@@KianaBonollo Thanks for the info! I have an hourglass body shape so it should be pretty comfortable. I also looked at the website and there's a ton of size modifications! Doing real corsetry at home can be unsafe if you're not experienced. As long as I don't crush my spine I'm happy!
