First off, thank you for actually stating that this is not a corset. That term is just thrown around so incorrectly these days. What you’ve actually made is a bustier. You’ve done very well for a student. Let me offer you a couple of tips from someone who’s been a professional costumer and taught design for over 25 years to help you on your way. You should put twill tape along the entire neckline and you should interface the neckline. With a fitted garment like this, the back neckline will also continue to stretch and eventually be completely out of shape. You should also include boning at the center back edge. It should be set between the back edge and the eyelets. This will keep the back from collapsing when when you lace it. There should also be interfacing under the eyelets. After a few wearings the eyelets will start to pull out. Especially in satin. FYI, the tool for the eyelets is called an anvil. Best of luck in your fashion career!! Cheers!!
Thank you very much for both the compliments and the advice! I did not think about adding boning to the back edge - I will definitely do that next time (I was not happy with the ripples in the back!). I have one question please: When you say interface the neckline, what kind of interfacing do you suggest and where along the neckline? Also, I actually did add the twill tape along the entire neckline AND interfacing where the eyelets were, but clearly did not include that in the video??? Not sure whats wrong with me, but I actually don't even think I got that on video so HOPEFULLY people will read your comment!!! I am grateful for all your advice!!
Hi casi here, I received the free corset top pattern, would you mind telling me what size it is, or if it no size how do I enlarge it to a size 10 please. Regards casi
I watched this at like 2 am last night and just got back from buying all the stuff to make it. This is such a great tutorial (plus we are the same size so thank you SO much for uploading the pattern). I’m doing mine in a dark green color with gold eyelets and I’m so PUMPED.
Glad it was helpful! I CAN'T WAIT to see your final product. Green and gold is going to be so gorgeous. Definitely show me the result when you're done!
I felt like the emphasis when she said “satin” was for ppl who call every shiny fabric silk. Personal pet peeve but also I can’t expect ppl to kno any better 😂
one month ago this video appeared in my recommended (even though I've never sew anything) and I got so interested. I live in a small town far away from all the trends and originality of clothing, so to find something like this is very difficult and expensive. But you encouraged me to learn how to use a sewing machine and I DID THE CORSET! OMG it's so beautiful I want to cry! I'm so thankful💕🥺 finally I can live my jane austen fantasy (I know it isn't historically accurate, but it makes me feel like that hdjahaja) So, again, THANK YOU SO MUCH💕😭
I can't quite get patterns with the fit I want for my body (and it's weird sizing) so seeing this helped me figure out how to create a basic boning pattern for myself I could use in a bustier I've had in my brain for months! I love how easy this is and how well you explained the process of making this top!
@Stella Fisher I added more pieces to the back of the top(one of the larger back panels on each side) because the front fits me fine, I suggest you try that.
Just the tutorial I have been looking for!! The best quality DIY I have found to create one of these boned bodices, the binding and finishes make all the difference!! Thank you so much!!
As a fashion student myself, I love this whole video. I am attempting my first corset and just need help with the boning and lining parts. Thank you for making these videos. I’ll be looking forward to more from you.
Thank you! Great tutorial and great pattern. I like how straightforward your explanations are. I added 1,5 cm to one side of each piece so it would fit me. I don't recommend sewing with silky, slippy fabric, since it makes the process much more difficult.
Omggg this is so good, we totally need more. I have been looking for so many tutorials and you are literally the only good one I found. And compared to the rest, yours is actually better in so many ways, like the way you explained it, the way it was recorded and that boning tip you gave us, they all helped a lot 🤍🤍
I'm really impressed with this video tbh. I thought you were just going to show the pattern pieces already done but it was so cool seeing you create the pattern on your dressform.. really great video and you did an AMAZING job. The finished product is so beautiful. Just like you:) After watching this I feel so motivated and inspired to create my own💖
For this pattern, although I am a size 8-10, I just added 1 additional back piece to the back of both sides and it works fine since it is a corset/bustier top, so if you want to use this pattern but it's in a size too small for you, I suggest doing that :)))))
Love this, thank you for sharing and for free! I love all different variations of this top they have some really nice ones on house of cb but are so expensive. Could you perhaps do follow up videos on how to add sleeves or straps or just any other tops like this? Id love to be able to make them for myself, thank you!
If you wanted to add spaghetti straps you can just attach them to your garment when you are sewing the neckline of the shell to the neckline of the lining! And I am considering actually doing another corset style video.
This was such a informative tutorial & I love that you broke down the order of sewing! Super helpful 🥺 My only question is what do I cut the boning with?
I just have to say BLESS YOU for this!! I can’t wait to try it, you did an even better service by providing links to your patterns (which a girl needs when it comes to these UA-cam DIY’s ) Can you try a sweater next! I would love to see that. I’ve already brought 2 of your patterns & can’t wait to try them out this week!
Thank you so much for the pattern! I have been looking for a cute bustier pattern forever. Also, thank you for addressing that this is not a real corset, but I still think it should be corrected and made known to these TikTokers and masses what the difference is. This is most definitely a bustier. Although, I am going to try out this pattern and modify it a bit to suit making a real corset.
Great video! That thing for the eyelets is called an anvil or eyelet setter anvil. Also, why did you have to call me out about the zip tie “boning”?? Lol
Hallelujah for the boning "speech" as you say I put so much time and effort into those seams I want to be able to live with my clothes and not be afraid they will fall apart if I give them a steam
Where is the dress form she used from? New subscriber, I am so impressed with the amount of knowledge she has! She teaches us correctly, so thank you for that!🙂
Honestly, as someone with a small chest that has really only made clothes for myself... I am not sure what advice to give:(( I am sorry! I am really glad you liked the video and are excited though!
maybe if u pinned the pattern pieces to a shirt u were wearing u could adjust the pattern to expand the bust size without a dress form? maybe by bringing the edge of the center front piece out to the center front of the bust and adjusting the cup patterns accordingly you could do it without changing the waist size? i have the same problem as u and i dont have a dress form lol
If you add offshoulder sleeves you would only have to rise the sides up a bit so they reach up under the arm just like a normal shirt would. Then attach the bottom of the sleevehead at the side where it meets your underarm and you're done
This is exactly that I needed! I’m designing a costume based off of one of my characters and this is exactly what she wears! Well, I mean, I’m adding more flares to the costume than the character design actually has, but that’s just cause lace and laces are hella annoying to draw lol
Thank you for this video ❤️ I’ve been wanting to make a top like this for a while but have been avoiding it as it looked so complex however, this video and the way you explained everything really simplified it for me and now I feel ready and prepared to try this myself 🥰

I’m DEFINITELY giving this top a try!! Thx so much for pattern just FYI- I’m REALLY small busted- I think the top lends itself super well to tacking in form cups/booster pads 👍🏼👌🏽 Will try it (or holders for my gel pads!) so I’m doubly excited as I can wear ‘look’. I collect vintage, velvet blazers/jackets w/ wider-the-lapel the better! A la 70s Mick & Bianca Jagger! Typically I wear ruffled shirts under the jkts- but excited to try version of your top. Just going to alter by making it tuck in a bit (yikes-I’m 57, hate looking like I’m TRYING to look young!!) just love fashion!! Great vid stumbled onto you-SUBSCRIBED! 👍🏼🌻 Annick in DEN
Hi there Kiana, Thanks first for this video on a good quality bustier top. I really enjoy watching your videos, especially as I’m a starting fashion student as well and am still learning a lot. So yeah also, I have a question about the use of fabric. Do you have an idea of how much fabric you used for this DIY? Cause as I’m a starting student I sometimes still struggle to make a guess on how much fabric to buy at the fabric store for a specific project. WOW! this pattern is so simple and the final product is super cute, absolutely love this! I'm definitely going to try this one. Just a quick question, if you don't have a dress form and you want to make the bust part a bit bigger, which parts of the pattern would you adjust?
Thanks! I would change only the three seams that cross over the bust area (when I say 3 I mean 3 on each side). That would increase the bust without increasing the waist area.
@@tinkerbellrox96 at 6:58, I think she means the two pieces of the cup, and then the middle pieces where the cup attaches. I haven't actually made this, this is my guess.
Great tutorial. I’m going to try to create this garment. I’ve got to learn style lines and placement, but I think it’s going to be a great project to start on.
Thank you so much for this. The way I explain is honestly top tier like u explain clearer than some fashion teachers I’ve had. If I’m using stretchy fabric would that change the pattern in any way
Rigilene boning is also amazing, especially for beginners. You can cut down the width, sew over it, and it’s cheap ($15 for 50yrds on Amazon). It doesn’t melt easily under an iron either.
Wow, thanks for the pattern. I was able to download it so easily. I am a 38 DDD should I just extend every edge of the pattern by 3 inches? Either way I'm 💯 greatful. Its a great starting point.
I’ve seen this video so many times and never did it but today I ended up doing it I’m done with the fabric corset but now I need to get the boating and the lining fabric do u have any suggestions where to get the lining fabric and the I’m doing mine in pink and maybe embroidering a Nike logo on when I’m done ❤️❤️ Thank you so much for your free pattern and the tutorial ✨

Hey, Love this! From a 2nd year fashion student (myself) to fashion graduate (you), could you please tell me if your patterns are half scale, quarter scale or full scale?? Thanks so much xoxo
This is so so cute! Do you maybe know the measurements of the form you used for the pattern? Because then I can compare it with the ones I have. I'd love to make it for my sister's birthday!
Cool, I also did this in fashion school butttt this scares me still more than I will admit.. ok i just admit it but yeah you must be a good sewer! it looks very neat tempted to give it a go.... help
Omg thank you so much! Am I able to not use metal to hold it up but something else that doesn't hurt and isn't so stiff but enough to keep neat? What paper n rule are u using please? Special needles? This is the most neat diy cloth I saw so far I like ur techniques ❤️😻❤️🌹🌈✨

From a 2nd year fashion student (myself) to fashion graduate (you), could you please tell me if your patterns are half scale, quarter scale or full scale??
Thanks so much xoxo
This video was so helpful I've been struggling trying to teach myself for months
Thank you so much for this!! I’m being a modern day rapunzel for Halloween and this is perfect!
This is so so cute! Do you maybe know the measurements of the form you used for the pattern? Because then I can compare it with the ones I have. I'd love to make it for my sister's birthday!
this is really beautiful, and the best walk through ever
He hecho el corset con el patrón que adjuntas y siguiendo tu vídeo y ha quedado genial!
Thank you for this tutorial!! Doing a corset for my class and using this method is saving me

You can do it!!! Just let me know if you have any questions :)
Kiana Bonollo thank you!! Stop thinking now and start doing lol
I loved this tutorial. So many details and very nicely explained.
This is so beautiful!!! I have a question regarding the pattern though, I'm a size 10, how do I resize the pattern?
How would you recommend altering the pattern for a much larger bust?
you can take measurements from brad that fit you

Looooove this!! I need to print this off and give it a try. Thank you!!
Yay!! Thanks! Send me a pic if you recreate!!
This was great, thank you!! How does one adjust this patter to their size? I definitely want to give this a try!
This was so informative thank you!! Quick question, what fabric did you use for the lining?
The exact lining is from Joann’s and it is 100% polyester and called “white posh lining” on their website.
AMAZING!!!!for the pattern, just print it and copy it to the fabric?
i have to hand sew all of this because my sewing machine does not work but i started it and its looking good!
I needed this!
Perfect timing
