Helenor Rigby lived in Vale Road Woolton. John and Paul saw her grave as they hung out in the graveyard when they spotted her grave. They wrote the song there.
In recent years to stop people trampling over the grave , they decided to say she wasn't real, and told of a woman they met called Helenor Bron. That's not true . Helenor Rigby belongs in Woolton and her grave was the inspiration for the famous song...I know this to be 100 per cent true.

Thanks Katie, yes the real Eleanor Rigby Woods lived off Vale Road and Quarry Street. I am sure Paul and John saw the grave but forgot about it until Paul was looking for a name. They worked with Eleanor Bron on the movie Help! Maybe that triggered Paul's subconscious because he thought Eleanor Rigby sounded right but not sure why until he was reminded of the grave there in Woolton.

@@stormytempest6521 I know this is a stretch, but, John's Uncle George came from a family of dairy people. They had dairy farms on Allerton Rd. George was a milkman too. Maybe there is a long lost connection?

Did youse go in an' ask for a quick werd with 'futher McKeezie' doh lad? aye? Ha ( just messing with you). Thanks David - Ive seen something on this before - I'm sure someone posted a pic online a few years ago - must be something in the name being on a gravestone at St Peter's Church in Woolton for sure - as you say, if not a conscious inspiration 'E.R' must have been a subliminal imprint for Paul .

Has anyone researched the history of Eleanor Rigby -- who she was, how she died?

Yes, her name was Eleanor Rigby Woods, and she was a lady who lived in Woolton Village. We don't know too much about her, sadly. She was buried along with her name.

I find it intriguing that her husband was Thomas Woods yet she was buried with her maiden name. Surely unusual for that day and age

+Adrian Burn Good point Adrian. When she married Thomas Woods, she retained the Rigby as a middle name, so her name at death was Eleanor Rigby Woods. I wondered that one for ages too.
