You guys dismiss the Red Pill movement. And I understand some of what you're saying. But what you both fail to realize is that its becoming stale and repetitive because you can't move past the red pill unless there is consensus and acknowledgement on both sides of the truths its trying to show. There is still half the people who want to say the realities the red pill are pointing out aren't true. So thats why you end up in a merry-go-round of repeated content
@@DeadpoolX9 In a recent video he told his youtube viewers that he hates than meme and will start banning people if they post it, so it needed to evolve rapidly.
On the ADHD: My 27 yo son has recently opened himself up to the understanding that he has ADHD. It has been an evolution for him that has allowed him to understand that he is not the "loser" he thought he was. He was constantly questioning why he struggled with some basic tasks, and now he is more accepting of himself and allowing some grace. It has been life changing to eliminate the negative self-talk.
That's awesome to hear. I hope he finds a great path that works for him moving forward. Everyone's different, even among those with ADHD. And while I'm not sure if you've played many video games before, I'll mention a video game analogy to ADHD, that an old friend once told me. The way he described his ADHD was like an inherent modifier on his person, that most didn't really have: "Deal 2x the damage, receive 2x the damage." I'm not much of a gamer myself, but the point was that his ADHD wasn't necessarily good or bad. That weakness may be 2x as difficult to deal with, and it can be hard to make any progress without getting a better handle on it. One may get a slower start, and end up "falling behind" as a result, maybe even far more than what you feel should be the case, just like he did through high school and somewhat beyond. When he started to figure himself out, it was like he performed 2x as well at everything he approached. Doesn't mean things weren't messier than most, but at a glance, he'd seem like he was "lucky" or simply "gifted." He wasn't. His mind just operated a lil differently, and while he once despised this, he now wouldn't have it any other way. I'm still working my way towards feeling the same, and I hope I'm getting there, in whichever form that may take for me. And the same for your son, in whichever form it may take for him.
Tell him the only requirement is exercise non-stop..like take up dancing or singing so every minute he has alone he's not playing video games but pracicing something with his body..drums..guitar..skateboard...anything OUT of the house and using the body. Otherwise he'll end checking himself into the ER psych ward like I did when I was a coder. We gotta move or we get really angry, anxious, depressed, bored...rageful, insulting, impatient...narcissistic, dismissing, lol....i could on.
I’m doing the same thing now with my recent ADHD diagnosis but it seems basically impossible to do anything but the negative self-talk. I’m not comfortable with literally anything else. I know have positive traits and redeeming characteristics, reasons to be proud of myself. Other people like me and will tell me as much. But I can’t treat myself that way because if I do, I worry I’ll get complacent. I feel like I have to be my harshest critic and my own arch nemesis so that somebody holds me accountable. Nobody is gonna be better at holding me accountable than me
Never say "Have we reached peak stupidity?" Never never never say it. It's like asking "What's the worst that can happen?" or saying "I've made this thing idiot proof." The universe takes it as a challenge and out-stupids your worst imaginings.
In the 50s, the manual for your car told you how to change the belts. Now they tell you not to drink the fluids. We are definitely not as smart as we used to be.
Destiny is such a mixed bag. He's one of the few people I watch who i believe is genuinely himself. The problem is he can go from being spot on to completely clueless depending on what he's talking about.
Yeah. He'll have you at first with an accurate and incisive description of why things are the way they are only to then veer off into bizarro land takes that contradict what he was just saying.
Good analysis. But honestly people just parrot things. If you dig down a few feet you quickly see that nobody understands why they believe things. I mean other than- people I like support this thing so it is inherently correct. Oh, the hubris.
When we argue about things that used to be common sense and don't have the common sense to even know what common sense is anymore. We are a generation of idiots. We've regressed into arguments about basic things, when we could be tackling real problems and truly advancing the world in better ways. It's a major slap in the face to prior generations who sacrificed so much so we could get to this point. Only to waste it on pointless contentions.
For the ADHD stuff, since we can't fully figure out the brain. If you appear 'normal' then people think you have no defects whatsoever. People really only believe in stuff that is obvious like Schizo, Diabetes, Seizures. For some reason, we just become hyper-skeptical to anything we can't see since internal experience is subjective. Even chronic pain people or people with high anxiety get the same criticism. Really annoying to deal with.
That's a combined effect from those masking to appear normal and the tons of un-diagnosed crying wolf to explain away their lack of self-development. For an outside observer it can seem exaggerated, because some of it is and some of it is hidden.. It's kind of like how often you'll hear someone claim they're introverted, but they're definitely not.

_"For some reason, we just become hyper-skeptical to anything we can't see since internal experience is subjective"_ Ha! I wish! Look up the "do you believe in god" polls here on YT. 80% answer yes. So, yeah. Also, "we should become hyper-skeptical to anything we can't see", as in, we should be skeptical and not believe it until it's demonstrated to us beyond reasonable doubt and educate ourselves on what demonstrate and beyond reasonable doubt mean. Only then we should believe things, before that it's "I don't know". For example, I. Ask me if I believe in ADHD. I don't know enough about the problem to answer that I know for a fact, but I believe in it, because I trust the doctors, same as I believe in cancer, but I haven't seen those myself, but there's enough evidence for me to believe that they're true.
*I totally agree that there does seem to be a toxic online culture that condescends to people who have regular 9-5 jobs. Some of these entrepreneur influencers act as if regular people are crazy or stupid for simply valuing their free time and their social life more than money.*
"If you don't have a business/multiple revenue streams/X financial status by age X, what are you doing bro"? -I don't know, umm, reading books, watching movies, gaming, going on walks, doing yoga, traveling, seeing family, hanging out with friends, cooking new recipes, taking art classes... You know, like, living my life--the only one I'll ever have.
@@blarpgan3641 Amen to that. Honestly, it's so liberating to truly know that working yourself to the bone to make money isn't the key to a good life. In my opinion, all you need is health, safety, 3 good friends, romance, and the freedom to indulge in whatever brings you joy. This requires you to have *"enough"* money, and of course the meaning of "enough" can vary, but you certainly don't need to be rich to be fulfilled, and you don't need to work more than 40 hours a week.
Yeah and also to mention the fact that society is pretty much built on people who work 9-5. If everybody left to be a ‘entrepreneur’ the world would crumble
This is only a small part of the core problem which is the malignant profit culture that Americans have been sold as being their national identity. This one cultural ideology pushes every differing opinion off the edge of being tolerable because the premise of your culture is that everyone is trying to achieve maximum selfishness in order to win in society. Therefore, no one can be trusted. Congradulations on that. Mission achieved Ayn Rand, Milton Friedman and every administration starting with Ronald Reagan.
The 'team sports' "either you're with us or against us" shit has literally driven me so far off the edge of online politics that I don't even bother anymore. I used to be willing to roll around in the mud with anybody but in the last year or two it's literally only been trying to play janitor to my own side and simultaneously prove that I'm not the second coming of hitler. I'm just going to do my thing and stay out of it until the needle shifts back to a more reasonable place.
The needle will not be shifting back to a more reasonable place any time soon. At least not without hell on earth being unleashed first. Truly I mean that because if things go that bad....more accurately when things do go that bad. There will be nowhere to hide or shelter either alone or with family and friends. The more people in your group the more likely you are to be targeted. A war now would be everywhere simultaneously and it will be ultra violent compared to what we've "seen" so far. For one thing, we've almost reached the point where they no longer need any of us left alive to do their work. That's what we know, so more than likely they've already reached that point and surpassed it. You're right though, to a point, society does behave as a pendulum most of the time. Things get pushed too far and then eventually there is a pullback, a correction. However, there are also extreme cases when the pullback is consistently deficient to correct the initial tangent. This is exactly what we've seen over the last 15-25 years. When this happens think of the pendulum of a clock, now imagine that clock is sitting in a canoe and a 300lb unathletic asthmatic is attempting to haul himself up and back into the canoe. He just keeps pulling down and down and down never letting up, which buries the pendulum far to one side. Everyone knows how that story is going to end. Eventually that grandfather clock is gonna tip all the way over, smack chubby Michael Phelps on the head, render him unconscious and he's going to drown. Have no fear, society is actually the canoe, the people alive today, yeah they're actually the fat guy, they're fkd. But the canoe will float away, probably get knocked around in the stream a little and eventually either turn upright or find it's way to shore. Unless there's a massive waterfall. Or a series of them.
the truth hurts, but this hits so hard. More left leaning people confuse American Patriotism with Nazi Nationalism and its a complete joke in terms of ideology because they're so different in how one is so welcoming and the other is so not only gatekeeping but authoritarian to the point of world domination.
ADHD doesn’t mean you can’t focus on anything, it means you can’t focus on things you don’t want to. It is a lack of ability to consciously curtail your focus to accomplish things you have to do but don’t want to do.
On ADHD. For any parents who feel like Destiny did, thinking because their kid can focus on video games he must not qualify as ADHD. ADHD is not the inability to pay attention. It is a deficient ability to DIRECT your attention where you want it to go. It is more difficult for an ADHD person to direct their attention toward something that is low stimulation (homework+hygiene). It is also more difficult for an ADHD person to direct their attention away from something that is high stimulation (videogames).
ADHD is a fake diagnosis. Just a side effect from growing up on modern media and constant distraction in life. Over stimulated kids. most of us have "it". who cares. "ADHD" is meaningless.
Hearing destiny talk about adhd is similar to getting diagnosed with narcolepsy. I just thought everyone else was handling being that tired all the time way better and I couldn’t figure out how.
I’m also narcoleptic (and I have ADHD too) and I can second this! Before learning I had it, I just didn’t get how other people could do so much throughout the day and not seem like they’re about to collapse 😂
Destiny came off as human, thoughtful, and reasonable. I could disagree all day long with him, yet still find common ground and work together on those issues.
This. I feel he presents himself as having thought these things through deeply, but really only provides quite superficial and reductive thinking. For example, stating he doesn’t have a political affiliation (but xlearly states he’s left leaning) and says he’s happy to change his mind based on evidence but Ben Shapiro wouldn’t? Where’s the evidence to suggest such. He doesn’t give others the same grace he gives himself. But, I did find this very interesting
@@MsChampagneSanityyou completely missed the point, his main point was that he will not lose money for stating an opinion that’s affiliated with a specific political leaning, and you can see this over the course of his career.(getting banned on twitch for trans issues). Or how he was also hyper attacked by the left for his BLM takes. And he still finds a way to take these unpopular opinions within his “group” (ex;israel v Palestine). However with Ben Shapiro his whole company is based off being conservative and the identity of the daily wire is conservatism which can only lead you to believe that the success of Ben’s company will pressure him to take certain positions
@@skenderdokovic I did understand this. It is well known the daily wire isn’t left, but it does also house centrist views too and those of the silent majority (hence its meteoric rise). The reason I say this is because within its own house, creators have butted heads and disagreed. Vehemently. Ben, I feel, would follow the “facts” if say, the science or literature reflected it. However, he is a religious human and takes a hard bias stance in some (not all) cases. He’s been vocal against and for trump for example, pro and against many other issues. It’s not as clean cut to suggest he simply wouldn’t change his mind. As if it’s set in stone. I think he’d agree. But would he change from right (or centre right or libertarian) to left? Absolutely not. There’s nuance missing from destinys argument. That was MY point. That you missed.

Well to give some counterweight. I'm a libertarian, I don't agree with Destiny on many things goverment related, but I do really appreciate his duedilligence and commitment to the truth. Ridiculous to disregard him for his hair color, his (personal) lifestyle choices and him having a girl name
@@three_owl_night ideally, the person's values would determine their lifestyle, but you can't logically argue the other way around. someone in an open relationship could believe one of (at least) two opposite views: 1. they believe that individuals are best capable of deciding the arrangements that best suit their preferences; or 2. they believe that open relationships are the one best arrangement (by some metric) and they should be mandatory. Both beliefs are mutually exclusive, a person who believes in either on them could be in an open relationship. So lifestyle doesn't necessarily seem very informative of a person's values
Excited for this one, I genuinely have learned from both Chris and Destiny and agree with neither 100 but find a lot if value in their thought processes.
I'll preface with I'm not the most supportive of Destiny. In the long run, he has proven, for me, to be an overly confident ideologue himself. He can talk his way around most criticism and chooses to castigate views unapproving of his own (specifically anti-establishment perspectives), all while really providing nothing more than standard/stale status quo line talking points and "I'll have to look into that" without the intention of ever really doing so. Not to throw the baby out with the bathwater, he is a great debater and most can agree with the more rational points he makes. The autistic charm cannot outweigh the burden of moralistic integrity -- which is lacking when taken as a whole, over the course of giving him attention.
@@WonderFilledMedia is that an ideology? I dunno if that's even a hard committed rule but generally the Republicans these days are wild and especially at a fed level the margins are thin so I can understand it from a pragmatic standpoint just to get anything done than sure. I dunno if this qualifies him as an ideolog tho really?
We all know who would play Peter Dinklage in a movie about Peter Dinklage. I think we also know that same person could play Destiny, though he'd be shorter.
@phutureproof the irony of what you’ve just said, in light of them talking about the enforcement of homogenous bias across groups is funny. “Blue hair bad, I no listen to blue hair”.
"This is such a good conversation" comments are incredibly significant, because it's a response to where we are at as a society right now. People agree that it is more important to create meaningful dialog between people who disagree with each other than to determine a "winner" and we are trying to incentivize and promote that kind of dialog. Once we get to a place where we feel there is enough respect between people who disagree and that we've reduced the amount of polarization, we'll be able to talk more about the content of the conversations themselves.
Yess, i have read a book on polarisation and its sooo important to start at a common ground and have discussions without trying to win. Then after you can do that you can discuss conflict resolution and get into the weeds. Book is inside polarisation by bart brandsma i believe
Destiny is correct that with complexity comes more ability to insert bullshit explanations from outside like wild conspiracies, but the flipside of that is that complex organisations also hide information from within as well. That is members in large heirarchies lose direct contact with the costs of their actions and will have an incentive to reap benefits that push risks onto others, while obscured by the complexity. Actual conspiracies, corruption, incompetence, and moral hazards are therefore all bound to increase with the scale.
Yeah the guy is actually a lot sensible compared to the rest of the leftwing political commentators. He gets a lot of hate from the left because of this.
He is a political debater, so your first real exposure to him is usually when the content creator you watch goes against him. If they lose or are exposed their fans dislike Destiny. It's an inherently adversarial role, and since he's very good at it, everyone from conservatives to leftists hate him.
Destiny absolutely does judge people. Wtf are you even saying? And what's wrong with judging people? If a biker approaches me in an alley with a knife drawn should I not judge him?
This is one of the few occasions I had to change the speed to 0.75 because I found Destiny’s speech almost incoherently fast. I’m not surprised he eventually went to see someone and was prescribed medication, he seems wound up like a spring. I also thought it was positive that he admitted advising people to cut off toxic parents was wrong. Each person’s family is unique and it’s incredibly difficult to advise even your closest friends on matters like these. Podcasts on ‘values’ have to tread very carefully. I feel like Chris walks this tightrope very well. His good friend Alex O’Connor is also very good at negotiating the pitfalls of modern values and the debates concerning them.
I have no idea who this guy is. I’m 1 min in and just by judging his mannerisms and demeanour I can tell I don’t like him. Are these signs and markers or am I just a dick?
ADHD stuff hit me hard. When it came up I was like ADHD is bullshit and by the end of that segment, I think I might have it. Literally every single thing Destiny said I experience regularly. The test scores thing especially, I was in the 5th percentile when it came to testing but literally never did homework and finished high school with 2.7 GPA
The issue with this is that so many people share these symptoms and a lot of the time, it's our society that forces us to act like that... probably the reason why ADHD self diagnosis has boomed in the last 5 years.
I truly feel dumber. I feel like I've lost wisdom I had as a teen. I don't know if my pursuit of hearing other experiences and perspectives has let me allow the vortex of the internet influence me too much or what. Don't like it.
Society has become unmoored from values that used to be a given. The feeling you’re thinking of is closer to destabilization or ungrounding than stupidity - imo.
I'm not really understanding how you feel dumber. Can you give examples? I definitely don't relate so I would like to understand what you mean. I personally feel more educated, focused in my beliefs/values, and enlightened than ever.
@@tristenatorplaysgames6833 Goth and Emo were separate subcultures before Emo just become a fashion movement separate from the original subculture and Goth is sorta going that way but the Gothic overlap with the metal community is leading to harder gatekeeping to keep the subculture focused so it may dilute a bit but I don't think it'll be as much of a lost cause/disconnect the 2000s Emo movement was/is.
At the moment for me, Destiny is the most interesting and complex characters on the Social Medias. He's obviously highly intelligent and his thoughts and ideas are quite vast and diverse. He came from a very different background than myself so it's cool to see how he sees his world. I do see a few things where he is terribly misinformed and it's very frustrating to see someone that smart say such dumb things and have 100% confidence in the statements. Destiny's point about Peterson is the same way I feel. I was an early listener to Jordan and relly loved his lectures, but lately, I can't be bothered to listen to him as much, although I haven't lost all respect for him, but he's not as compelling as he was at the beginning.

I've seen Destiny interviewed elsewhere and not really enjoyed it, but this was a great interview. Chris, you really brought out the nuances in his thinking, and a lot of what he said really resonated with me this time 😄
The fact that Destiny doesn’t share a common skepticism of authority and the tech industry, considering the NSA, the Twitter files, and the congressional weaponization hearings… makes him a part of very problems he describes.
this was covered entirely in his channel, if you want to see him discuss the twitter files there are hour long videos online where hes researching them and then debating them.
I feel like Destiny's views can be characterised by a skepticism of skepticism of authority, rather than an outright lack of skepticism. Yes he does seem to be kind of 'bought in' to his position but he does look into stuff like the twitter files and does a decent job at picking apart and challenging narratives as opposed to just ignoring it.
What you learn in college is how to learn. You learn how to research, you learn a process. What you learn is secondary, how to learn is primary. The equation you learn is more valuable than the variables. In college, you learn a state of mind; a mindset. Discipline.
Wow, whoever does the video/lighting for these shots deserves every cent they make. Really beautiful work. I don't think I've seen anything this clean on youtube before. Bravo 👍
Destiny misses the point on the kind of power that “woke” has. It’s not (for the most part) legislative power. It’s not the power that comes from genuine consensus (I think he’s right that most democrats aren’t on board with the more insane excesses of it). But it has completely captured cultural institutions, and is being policed in the workplace via fear of ostracism -it’s not that most of the people doing it genuinely believe this nonsense, it’s that everyone knows what’s in store for them if they question it. At the end of the day, that is MORE powerful than the “squad” getting legislation passed.
The only reason why woke people took everything in the cultural part of society is because conservative people have decided to leave all forms of art. If you want conservative to have more importance in the cultural space, just start promoting conservative artists/entertainers because that's the people who create culture
@@zacharyleduc5392 I’m not a conservative. The conservative/liberal framing of this shit is boneheaded. Woke is 100% illiberal, and anyone who calls themselves liberal who genuinely supports this Orwellian nonsense doesn’t know what the word means.

What’s amazing is Destiny not 2 days ago grilled Candace when she said Americans are getting dumber. Great evidence of her claim in the debate, that Destiny is a pure contrarian. One of the most well articulated, intelligent delusional people I’ve ever heard debate.
That’s because she said so many dumb things, and within that context, he was right to challenge her. Saying that people are becoming dumber in general is different from saying “…and so that’s why school is bad”. She is probably the most dishonest personality out there, and that’s saying a lot. Destiny also said that people are just acting dumber due to social pressures, but when you press them, most have the ability to think more critically.
Give me some examples of the so many dumb things she said. Interesting that you so cleanly separate the overall intelligence of youth today from education. I would love to also hear why the relationship between school and general intelligence is not one to be considered.

And, because he's very witty, he's extremely adept at creating incredibly strong debate points which allows him to reinforce the idea that he's right on whatever point. Then, he tells himself he's accurate on the point because he acknowledged a single bias tangentially related to the topic. Well said. And he doesn’t really have any principles or personal beliefs, just that there are people with “fringe” ideas who should be made to look like fools (for views). His recent attempts to do this to well respected and accomplished people shows the limits of this superficial worldview.

My main exposure to him is from him as a guest on other people's shows, where he always comes off as incredibly articulate and sounds rational/reasonable... And, again, I'm saying this more as a self-criticism, as seeing that made me realize I have been doing the exact same thing for years.

It makes me so angry when someone decides an ideology just defines them without failure. Destiny's got a pretty good point about college. I think if you have a good plan and get a STEM degree or a similar degree in something you know will be an asset in the job market, it's probably the way to go, unless you take on too much debt. College is also a really good place to meet people and learn how to socialize. Nothing wrong with great community colleges or trade schools either.
Because everything Destiny disagrees with are just "talking points" or "popular soundbites", if somebody he agrees with does it, it's just brushed over. He's making his side "complex and deep" while everyone on the right is a caricature of themselves. That's how he's making you believe what you believe and automatically delegitimize any opposing comment in your mind. I'm actually very close to center, and i love watching Destiny, but when he talks about biases of other people he fails to realize that he has strong biases too. If a right wing person speaks he would always take a position of "well lets explore how this may be wrong interpretation" if someone on his side speaks, his position is "well lets selectively find clues that support our opinion"

The way he described his ADHD was like an inherent modifier on his person, that most didn't really have: "Deal 2x the damage, receive 2x the damage."
I'm not much of a gamer myself, but the point was that his ADHD wasn't necessarily good or bad.

Good analysis. But honestly people just parrot things. If you dig down a few feet you quickly see that nobody understands why they believe things. I mean other than- people I like support this thing so it is inherently correct. Oh, the hubris.
Arguing your opinions was already the problem. You should be discussing your opinions, not *arguing* it.
Honestly this is an amazing way to phrase and I’ll be stealing it for my next intellectual conversation

Same lol especailly "trying to play janitor to my own side and simultaneously prove that I'm not the second coming of hitler"

What bothers me most is how Destiny can correctly identify this as a problem... but continues to do it himself.
ADHD doesn’t mean you can’t focus on anything, it means you can’t focus on things you don’t want to. It is a lack of ability to consciously curtail your focus to accomplish things you have to do but don’t want to do.
God I wish more people knew this. It a dopamine regulation issue. It's not a "lazy" or "absent-minded" thing.
Never heard it described so succinctly.

Very very true.

Actual conspiracies, corruption, incompetence, and moral hazards are therefore all bound to increase with the scale.

the divisive rhetoric of predictable points in comments is just proving Destiny right
The fact that Destiny doesn’t share a common skepticism of authority and the tech industry, considering the NSA, the Twitter files, and the congressional weaponization hearings… makes him a part of very problems he describes.
this was covered entirely in his channel, if you want to see him discuss the twitter files there are hour long videos online where hes researching them and then debating them.
I feel like Destiny's views can be characterised by a skepticism of skepticism of authority, rather than an outright lack of skepticism.
