Thanks a million Ricky and Raquel. Actually we forgot to mention the fan was actually a wee bit noisy so we never ran it. We just did a tester to make sure it worked, hence Jerry getting zapped! I'm not a big fan of fans - it's that repetitive, droning noise that they can sometimes have. Jerry wears ear plugs, I don't! You'll love Veracruz, it's a brilliant city and the Hotel Amparo just completes the experience 😍. Thanks for enjoying the video 🤗🤗.
That is crazy cheap for a sweet little room with the bells and whistles, I love how you two show people how inexpensive it is to travel and experience things on a budget anyone could afford.
Hi mjc427. Thank you for enjoying our video and appreciating our simple means of travel. That really is the aim of our hotel series - to hopefully let folk see that it is very possible to find accommodation on a budget. Obviously with two of us we get to cut the cost even more. If your needs are simple and you're willing to walk around to shop around, you'll be amazed at what you can find. The initial walking around can be a bit time consuming though 😉. Hence we love returning to places we've already stayed before.

Hotel Amparo is quite the bargain and it's very likely the best deal we've ever had in Mexico. This hotel was $170 MXN back in 2014 for the same type of room - we should've mentioned that in the video. Right now we are about 40 miles south of Gallup in Ramah, New Mexico. We're here until the middle of May - after that we'll return to Mexico for some more traveling and then we'll cool our jets in Mazatlan for a bit.
Absolutely amazing to see some of the options out there! Thank you for a very interesting and enjoyable series! My only complaint - I would have loved to see more of your take on Vera Cruz. The zocalo looks pretty! Enjoy your well-deserved respite from drifting! (PS - not exactly drifting, but we are going to Mazatlán for our first time in June. I will be re-watching your videos (and taking notes) in the coming months (I already have the roast chicken and the shrimp market locations flagged on my map app). There are few if any direct flights in the summer from Vancouver to Maz, so we will take our usual red eye to CDMX followed by the morning flight to the coast. I am looking forward to exploring Mazatlán in the summer when the snow birds will be up north).
We will have another Veracruz video shortly, albeit without too much of our take on the city - the reason behind this will clearly be explained at the very beginning of that video. Briefly, we've absolutely loved this city since 2014. Having said that, we've seen much better stretches of beach in Mexico - sand and saltwater aren't exactly the biggest draws for us anyway. Instead, we enjoy the look and feel of this city. The history of Veracruz is also quite fascinating to us and there are a few worthwhile museums and forts here which we've enjoyed over the years.
Mazatlan in June? We'll just miss you by mere moments again! We'll be in Mexico by then, however we won't return to Mazatlan until later in summer. Still, we're quite happy to know that you are interested in checking out some of our favorite stomping grounds for food. Summers are very sultry in Mazatlan and it's still quite busy with vacationing Mexicans at that time - July and August are especially steamy and busy with couples and families on holidays. It's a fun, lively place year round - enjoy your time in "The Pearl of the Pacific"!
Since there’s no way to keep the seat dry, I vote for seat/lid up, while Suzanne votes for seat/lid down. Veracruz has not been on our radar, but we may have to check it out sometime. Thanks
Hi Jim and Suzanne. It seems great minds think alike! Yeah even though nothing actually worked in reality to keep the seat dry, I opted to keep the seat and lid down, whilst Jerry opted to keep the seat and lid up whilst showering. Hopefully we'll have a video out in the next few weeks with a taster of the sights in Veracruz. In all honesty we didn't do too terribly much filming there as we were wrecked by the time we got there and we knew we had an epic journey ahead of us... more on that soon. We will definitely return to Veracruz later this year. We hope you both make it there yourselves too some day. Thank you for continuing to enjoy our videos 🤗🤗.
I'm curious as to why Mexican hotels do not provide a shower curtain or some type of barrier to contain the water from spraying all over the place. That really must be frustrating having to wipe down the toilet with the same few towels provided for drying off after showering.

Some hotels in our price range do offer shower curtains and a way to contain the water - it's a real treat for us when we find establishment's like this for around $300 MXN! Perhaps that's why many of the places we stay in don't feature these - it's a cost-saving decision made by some lower priced hotels? Indeed, at times this is very frustrating, especially when the shower is placed too close to the toilet (like at the hotel in this video) or when the bathroom is so small that the entire floor and sink gets soaked. I (Jerry) try to use my towel to dry up the mess - this drives Fiona absolutely bonkers for some strange reason! 🤣

In all seriousness though we really are grateful to these hotels for providing us with towels as we don't have any ourselves. Thanks Cathy, we'll check out their video - just curious as to why they weren't impressed. Different strokes for different folks. We'll have a video in the next few weeks showing a wee bit more of Veracruz. However we really want to get back to spend some good quality time there to do it justice. We spent the bulk of our 5 days in Veracruz revisiting our favourite seafood restaurant daily and we really didn't film as much of the city as we should have. In all honesty we were a wee bit burnt out and we had a massive bus trip looming on our horizon. We really wanted to enjoy just being there. Thanks for getting back to us Cathy 🤗🤗.

The bells of city hall chimed the tune of La Bamba on the hour every hour in Veracruz, but it's probably under copyright...even as bells 🔔🔔. The Hotel Amparo has always been one of our favourite places that we've ever stayed. We even kept a little Hotel Amparo 2014 calendar that we use as a book mark. Now we have an accompanying 2022 calendar memento from there. Hopefully we'll make it back there again by the end of the year.

Hi Roy, Hotel Amparo remains a firm favourite of ours since 2014. We were so happy to see it was still operating when we returned, as quite a few very similar hotels in the exact same neighbourhood were closed 😞. We have come to realise just how important internet download and especially upload speeds are to us and we had absolutely no complaints here. This hotel was an _astounding_ value! Those tiles were quite lovely, too! No discount was given - this was the going rate. This same room-type was $170 MXN way back in 2014 - the rate hasn't increased too much since then, all things considered! We have a ton of footage from Don Juan II and we are currently talking about whether or not to make an entire video based on that or roll it in with another video?
