This is so true Lori. We have a small one bedroom apartment of which I make sure to keep clean, tidy, organized, decluttered and smelling good. Whenever we have visitors, all comment on how nice our apartment looks, how clean it is and how peaceful it feels, how welcoming it is. It takes a lot of hard work and effort on my end- but I love making my home!
We currently rent our home. The cabinets in the kitchen here are also white. In the two years we have been here, I have washed my cabinets more than ever before. Stuff really shows on white. I adore the light brightness though. Whenever we are able to buy our own home, should God allow it, I will aim to paint them white despite the frequent need to clean them. I agree with this video, I grew up in a small single-wide trailer that was not what society looked kindly upon. It had a carpet that was a hideous avocado green color. Even the tub and toilet were that color. LOL The initial decorations of the trailer when my parents purchased it was awful. However, my mother kept it clean and often I'd come home from school to find it fresh smelling and tidy. She had worked to make it inviting by cleaning. Just simply cleaning it and being the good wife and Mom went so very far. She did redecorate and paint as she was able to tuck away a few dollars here and there. She had it looking lovely and cute in a few year's time. It wasn't perfect for how the rest of the world would view it, but it was home. That is a happy memory. Today I often aspire to do the same for my children. We homeschool, so I don't have the same exact situation to replicate. It's even more important to have a cozy home though since my children are here most of the time. The house we currently rent is much larger and nicer technically. However, the niceness of a home isn't always in how fancy or big it is. It is in what you make of it. I thank God He has allowed me to be a "homemaker". I truly enjoy trying to make it a happy home. I often feel like I don't do as good as my own Mama managed to and with far less than I currently have, but I am trying. A clean and tidy home is indeed beautiful, even if it is an old trailer with avocado green carpets. :-P
I believe what makes a happy home is having a full-time homemaker in it who works hard in her home and a husband and his wife who love each other. You and I were both blessed with wonderful mothers and homes, and we've been able to give it to our children. God is so very good!
Oh so true! Now that I'm old and have health issues, it hurts to get up, move around and clean. But, I think it helps to keep on the move. House work is actually good for me in that respect. It keeps me active! I hate clutter, so I find declutttering most helpful in keeping my house clean and in order. I do a little every day and put things away when I'm finished with them. Boy, what difference that makes. my mom taught me this when I was young. It works for me! One more thing I might add. I find that if I get up, dress, put my shoes on, and make my bed, I set myself in motion to successfully end my day with a clean house.
my house, everything is broken even my roof so as we can't use a room in our already small 1200 sqfoot house....no garage, no shed for storage...6 people. but I think I do an okay job cleaning and keeping it looking like a home. I'm sure someday I'll look back on these hard times and miss them bc it was when my babies were little. ❤️
My parents lived in a condemned building the first year of their marriage! My mom kept it shiny and tidy so it was always homey and comfortable, but ALL of us are blessed to have roofs over our head (hopefully, yours can be fixed soon!), clothes on our back, and food in our stomach.
