From the sound of things, Problem Solverz would have fit on AS better but even more than that, they should have given the creator more freedom to make the shorts at his own pace without having to adhere to a weekly series that was written by committee. It's clear that the guy is an artist and what he makes only runs on a plan he comes up with, not suits that are trying to sell this to kids. I also notice that the animation in both the original short and the series also fucks with the artist's style. I totally see the LSD vibes. Anytime I show people Osamu Sato’s Art in that game or eastern mind, it’s cool, but anyone looks at this and sees it as garbage. I see a lot of really cool animations here that are just overshadowed by the expectations that a cartoon needs. Maybe it’s like LSD but a TV show. People need to open up more to the possibilities of surrealism but not have to market it so heavily.
With all the stuff going on in the background, maybe there wasn't gore. But the idea of let's just slam it with too much going on at the same time for things to matter, was a selling point for Super Jail.
Honestly wouldn't be surprised. A lot of things are getting to worst and going to shit in terms of quality. There's a lot of dumb shit with trash quality getting popular and people literally laughing at how stupid they are (not even an insult, there's a surprising amount of people that do this). Before you know it, this type of style is gonna be an "aesthetic" or god knows whatever the fuck is gonna happen next.
I can remember at least one thing I enjoyed about the show where there was that episode with Alfe (the wookiee guy) constantly denying he went through the time machine rollercoaster. I just find it funny today because despite all the evidence being there, when the others asked him if he used it, he constantly answered "no" in a straight face. (Little side appraisal aside, "the first NFT cartoon".)
I showed a picture from Problem Solverz to my dad and he had a funny reaction to it, since he's color blind, my dad compared Problem Solverz to a shirt that gave him a headache, everytime he ironed it.
This was one of my favorite shows as a kid. The show was so weird, and strange, and almost scary at times because of how many things was happening at the same time. I understand how it was definitely an abandoned, grossed show because the way it is, but it truly did hold a special place in my childhood, making me into the weird kid I am now!
When I was a kid and this came out, this legit scared me to the point of crying. Just seeing one of the characters sent me into a fight or flight respond. The show was always so over whelming
When this came out, I associated it with Adventure Time and Regular Show. It felt like CN was just pushing out randomness to see what stuck. There was also some other stuff like the one about the 2 robots in the post-apocalyptic future. Adventure Time and Regular Show were the only shows that survived from this period in CN's history.
I literally thought this show was a joke. A late April Fool's Joke. That was trying to get kids to stay up late to see an Adult Swim show with mountains of swears in it. I was wrong.
Psychedelia is hard to get right as a cartoon style. You can have bright, popping colors, but for fuck's sake, still try to use some color theory and don't blind us with oversaturated tones all the time.
More like 11+, since the two pilots only swore a few times and there wasn’t that much adult/graphic imagery. Plus, if there was any adult/graphic imagery, it would be admittedly violating...
Honestly, I enjoyed how much of a chaotic nightmare the visuals were when I watched as a kid. They were interesting and looked cool. Though I'm sure if it was better written and more focused it would have been a better show.
10:58 tbh having this subtle comparison was really satisfying for me to see, I can appreciate really surreal artwork but CN wasn't the right platform for it, I think this was a really good example about how contectualizing trainwreck-looking artwork correctly is really important and I think is kind of an under-sung(? Idk what better word to use) point in this video
Same but now I love them way too much and draw ecchi versions of the characters on my DeviantArt this isn't a joke BinglesP for proof i am *a really frightening being*
7:52 Some of the graphics aren't even original! The clouds are literally just Mario 1 clouds with outlines! And the grass close to the ground in the scene right after is LITERALLY just a recolored Mario World bush!
I loved this show as a kid. I watched it obsessively and had some weird obsession with Roba. I was a sensory seeking kid and didn't get out of the house much at all so this was a blast of sensory sweetness. It was different than anything I've seen and I craved what it provided. The writing was forgettable and got on my nerves at times but I couldn't stop watching because of the visuals. I think this show would've been a HIT for adults (who can handle the sensory better than kids) and if the writing was way better
I vaguely remember reading on the cartoon network website that roba isn't really a robot, he just dresses like one to ease his anxiety, but hearing that roba and alfie were twins is complete news to me
I feel like the background art is actually really good, but the problem is each piece is like an actual art piece, so it distracts from the actual show, and itself
This show first aired right as I was getting out of my "i'm too old for cartoons" phase, but was perfectly time for my "I just wanna get high and watch cartoons" phase.
9:48 Most animated shows get renewed for a second season before airing because animation takes so long to finish, so the networks want a second season in the bag case the series turns out to be a hit so they don't have to go a year or more between airing
For anyone who comes across this, check out Wander Over Yonder. Liquid animation, gorgeous colors, memorable characters with perfect voices and a heartwarming story all brought by the beloved Craig McCracken. Complete opposite of… this.
Holy crap, I’ve never seen this and I’m so glad I didn’t. I can’t get past the artwork, even if it was amazingly well written I wouldn’t give this a chance.
I grew up on this show, actually. I loved it as a kid and was hyped whenever it aired on tv because it was one of my favourites along side adventure time and regular show. I thought it was cool, and was confused at why my friend's mum wouldn't let her watch it. As I got older, I forgot about this show and then I only ever found out it was hated by everyone until maybe last year. I was very much a kid who thought anything with muted colours and didn't crack a joke every two seconds was boring, haha...
I remember seeing this show teased on Cartoon Network and thinking it looked like it had an Adventure Time type format with the visual style of Adult Swim's Superjail!, which had me intrigued. First off, the writing, pacing, and characters are nowhere close to the quality of Adventure Time, so that was a bust. Visually it's just obnoxious and tasteless with no contrast between settings; everything is a flashing dayglo seizure from hell, but it's like that everywhere so it's boring at the same time. It's too bad because Ben Jones seems talented.

That's because you aren't allowed to hurt people's feelings a little bit, but you are totally allowed to give them seizures and migraines.
The show got a run of 26 episodes each with a duration of 11 minutes which is about 13 full length episodes (The same run as Clone High)
@BoulderBro999 why? o k
@BoulderBro999 why? I respectfully disagree with the former statement
And that is why we have too many comedies on this earth

Dang I remember watching this on tv and I was horrified by the big chocolate guy. Especially his voice really made me feel scared. And whenever Problem Solvers would show up on tv I would switch to Nickelodeon, that is how terrified I was.
Cartoon Network made a great decision by making children want to switch to other networks lol
@@LSMark This cartoon makes Fanboy & Chum-Chum, Breadwinners, Sanjay & Grieg, Secret Fort Mount Awesome, and Out of Jimmy's Head look like fun and enjoyable shows to watch on TV!

Honestly the whole show feels like the unholy lovechild between Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Yellow Submarine, and LSD: Dream Emulator
@@scottoleson1997 I got the pilotredsun vibes from this
With all the stuff going on in the background, maybe there wasn't gore. But the idea of let's just slam it with too much going on at the same time for things to matter, was a selling point for Super Jail.

Uncle Grandpa is a lot easier to look at than this.
I'll slap down $50 on this show gaining extreme popularity in a decade, when pop culture suddenly starts craving this art style out of nowhere.
That's a bold claim but I guess I cant even argue against it.

It MAYBE could've worked. Just maybe
i guess the show was too colorful for an "adult audience"
It was going to be before CN made the decision to make it a kids show
I thought it I was an adult swim show.
Bro imagine if they brought problem solverz back though 👀 ngl I’d be hyped
im starting to think that this show is an elaborate joke and no one gets it
I can remember at least one thing I enjoyed about the show where there was that episode with Alfe (the wookiee guy) constantly denying he went through the time machine rollercoaster.
"The visuals for each episode was actually made within a few weeks."
Yeah and it shows.. I definitely believe that.
This was one of my favorite shows as a kid. The show was so weird, and strange, and almost scary at times because of how many things was happening at the same time. I understand how it was definitely an abandoned, grossed show because the way it is, but it truly did hold a special place in my childhood, making me into the weird kid I am now!
One pokemon episode was banned from airing, because it included one scene that is dangerous for epileptic people.
Meanwhile problem solverz:
Pokémon: 1 episode caused seizures
Problem Solverz: The entire series causes seizures
Oh, are you talking about "Electric soldier porygon"?
@@sivan7438 that got porygon hated despite Pikachu causing shit
@@kinglycrimson I love porygon, mostly it’s final evolution, Porygon-Z. I OFFICIALLY HATE PIKACHU.
Seriously. The POKEMON episode should’ve had warnings for sure, this is just wrong to do though.
Man, I liked Robotomy. And then it was gone.
I literally thought this show was a joke. A late April Fool's Joke. That was trying to get kids to stay up late to see an Adult Swim show with mountains of swears in it. I was wrong.
I swear it ran on CN for sooo long too. I remember a lot of times I'd be disappointed seeing back-to-back episodes of this every day.

Psychedelia is hard to get right as a cartoon style. You can have bright, popping colors, but for fuck's sake, still try to use some color theory and don't blind us with oversaturated tones all the time.

Same. Lol
Glad to see there's an actual fan of the art style because I can definitely see some potential if executed properly.

Fun Fact: this pile of steaming poop was made in the same year as the masterpiece the amazing world of gumball
9:48 Most animated shows get renewed for a second season before airing because animation takes so long to finish, so the networks want a second season in the bag case the series turns out to be a hit so they don't have to go a year or more between airing
I THOUGHT THIS WAS A FEVER DREAM! I SAW THIS YEARS AGO!
