Id argue the Sly series would be amazing if they adapted it properly. Those games had great stories especially the second one which even dives in to existential dread. Even from the first game they set up so much nuance and history within a few cutscenes. Just my opinion though, i think uncharted had very average stories. The games were great but the story wasnt what drove me to play them. Ive replayed the sly series numerous times partiality because i just want to experience the story. Just my opinion though and theyd probably fuck up making a faithful adaptation like with this movie lol
Travis Knight (Kubo and the Two Strings and Bumblebee) was originally going to direct it but the Sony was trying to pressure him into rushing production of the film to make it to a summer release schedule even if it sacrificed the quality. He refused because he wanted to take the time to make the best possible Uncharted movie he can. Then he was let go. So Sony Pictures is more focused on fast tracking the project as much as possible quality be damned.
OnTop Tom Holland? I feel like they should’ve gone with that guy who played Dean Winchester in Supernatural instead. He actually _looks_ more like Nathan Drake.
@@firelordeliteast6750 The accidental heroes in the absence of a true hero is far better. Because it showed growth on both sides with Ratchet maturing becoming less jaded and selfish, also Clank becoming less naïve while maturing as well in addition to keeping his optimism. Which push them to be better then Captain Quark and be real heroes instead of phonies.
Beginning of the movie he just wanted to be famous and cool. He ignores his friend and the other so called nerd because that was the way to fit in. He realizes that he was being selfish the whole time and quits the rangers. Clank talk him into coming back we he apologizes. That’s better then just becoming a less duch that they end up changing the who character in the next game to more loveable
You got to understand the movie was made for kids from the age of 10-17. So you’re not going to find the jokes as funny if you’re an adult the writing may look bad but it’s intended for children to understand. So you over think of the plot is just plain wrong. Like I wondered as orlder teen playing the original shortly after they came out why ratchet arc didn’t seem to make sense. Not really a event the happened that caused the change. But when I remember this game was designed for young teenagers it made sense
What most people don't know is that the games on the ps2 were satires on animated movies and they mocked captialism. The four games really emphasised how important money is to the galaxy no matter what. Even if you save someone, they would only help you if you pay them. While later games failed in they're story because they tried to become the very thing that they originally mocked
the ribbing on consumerism was absolutely intended, but calling the originals "satires on animated movies" is a bit much, I never got that sort of feeling from them
I think the joke: *Quark points gun* "Don't make a move" *Gun gets sliced in half* "I am listening" Was pretty good too. So ye, 2 whole jokes in the movie
Fun Fact: Plans for a Sly Cooper and an Om-Nom film were also planned by the same studio but were cancelled. Teaser posters for both films was revealed, however a trailer WAS revealed online ONLY for Sly Cooper. Since EVEN MORE footage of it POSSIBLY exists, this means that it could be Lost Media.
I’ll be honest the Wilhelm joke actually made me laugh. Usually the Wilhelm scream completely takes you out of the world and ruins the immersion, so might as well do something with it.
How hard is it to just take the story of the game and make it into a movie. I've seen people on UA-cam just edit cutscenes and bits of gameplay together to feel like a movie.
To be perfectly fair, Ratchet & Clank (2002) doesn't really have a cohesive story that could be adapted into a movie. Certainly not a good one at any rate.
in defense of the movie and the studio working on it, the entirety of the original story draft and script was replaced with a safe cookie cutter copy paste job because Hollywood execs didn’t like how it was, and this movie serves as a reminder that in the film industry you should always tell Hollywood execs to fuck off!
I remember watching this movie and literally no one was there. This was in the first week it came out. Even the movie theater I went to played the movie in a room where a panel of the ceiling was hanging on by a wire just waiting to fall. It’s pretty sad that I remember more of room that I watched the movie in than I remember of the movie itself.
I guess it doesn't help that the movie came out around the time as the jungle book. Whether the jungle book was good or not it made nearly a billion dollars so it definitely impacted this movie
Didn't they also announce a Twisted Metal TV series too? But I saw it a few weeks ago, after forgetting it existed for years, it was okay, felt like they stuck a bunch of PS3 cutscenes together to make a movie, but I wouldn't say it was terrible, just needed a ton of polishing.
I think they originally wanted it to be tied into the games with a plot about Ratchet’s origins and meeting his father but the scrapped it for something general audiences could enjoy
@@LSMark hay by the way thats another one of the games plots and tbh that games plot would have been better for a movie it had huge twists like huge ones and it actualy felt like a movie story wont spoil it cause its to good but the games called ratchet and clank a crack in time or ratchet and clank future a crack in time (based of where you are. the game has 2 names for some reason)
@@LSMark That would've been pretty cool since "Tools of Destruction" kind of hinted at his dad possibly being around when you need to buy a gadget from the smuggler who says he got it from a lombax who "kinda looks like you" years ago. But then later on near the end of the game the villain says something to go against that, so I wonder how that concept would've worked out tbh. I wonder how late it was changed. Because Ratchet has an entirely different character model in the advertising, that resembles a version of him from the more recent game "Into the Nexus", where he's obviously a lot older. Honestly it's a good thing this movie is just being a one-off and Insomniac/Sony seem to be continuing the PS5 game from where ITN left off
@@ShinyJulian Respectfully then, that's a stupid move on Insomniacs part. I understand they are trying to cater to the newer generation of players who started with the 2016 game, or god forbid, the movie. But I honestly feel they should only pick 1 timeline.
Sony actually does have a ton of iconic characters. PlayStation All-Stars was just bad. I’d kill for another stab at the concept with actual budget put into it.
I remember someone saying that Shadow the Edgehog was planned to be dlc for that game, but it got canned. We were so close to seeing him as a Sega rep that wasn’t Sonic
In other words, the movie is bad because rather than trying to adapt a good story from a game into a good story for a movie, they instead tried to create a brand new story with brand new characters, only using the designs and occasionally tropes to fill out the rest of the space, which inevitably resulted in an uninspired children's animated movie. No surprises here. :(
Fun fact: Famous (especially by post-2010s standards) UA-camr ElectricDragon505 called Ratchet & Clank (early 2016 movie) “How to Piss Off a Ratchet & Clank Fan”, because he had good reasons to give it his Seal of Garbage (but not to ignore the Ratchet & Clank games he admitted he never played, and yet, he did by thinking of them as how the movie represents it rather than actually experiencing it, at least at that time if not nowadays. While that does make it understandable, it’s also a self-discouraging move which actually kinda does make it understandable why the video got some dislikes).
If they didn’t make a movie, I know this Reboot game would’ve been exactly like The original, smh. They got rid of so many planets and original weapons.
> "The last of his species, the Lombax" > Shows PS2 era footage, despite the 'Ratchet being the last of his kind' only being canon in the Future trilogy on PS3. Hell, we get a female Lombax in Going Commando hmmmmmmmmmmmm

And then all of a sudden, this is one of the first recommendations I get from you in a long while, and it just so happens to be on The Ratchet and Clank Movie... Get out of my head Mark.
I mean Crash Bandicoot, Jak and Daxter, Nathan Drake, Kratos, Ratchet and Clank, Aloy, Sly Cooper, are all pretty iconic. Some of those weren't even in Playstation All Stars Battle Royale.
I watched it as soon as I finished playing the remake and really enjoyed it. The "Wilhelm!!" joke was the funniest bit😂 I guess I was more interested in the concept of a "tie-in movie" to a game, n just filled in the missing sorry parts with infomation from the game 🤔
Rift Apart literally feels like it should have been the Ratchet and Clank movie. The game basically plays out as an animated film with some shooting and platforming thrown in. They didn’t need to retell the story of the first game with the movie, something like Rift Apart’s story would have probably been received better by fans at the very least
the remake game was good....for the first few levels when i thought it was a full remake of the first game, but then sudenly it just skipped a bunch of stuff, and crammed dr nefarious in from the third game making me say why??
I remember this movie, because the UA-camr with the most subscribers in Italy voiced a minor character in it and he was genuinely so excited about getting a voice role in the video where he said it.
It was atrocious. It’s even more dreadful when you know just how good R&C is. They somehow found a way to mess up something that was handed to them... that must’ve taken huge efforts.
To be fair the deplanitizer thing was the plot of the first game. Take a piece from several planets to create the perfect one, destroying those Planets in the process
This was at least as far as I can remember the first game ive ever played. Ratchet and clank one I mean. Although I never played any of the sequels. The series’s still holds a special place in my heart. So I’m really excited for the new one coming to the ps5!
Funniest thing about the ps4 tie-in game was how they integrated Sylvester Stallone's robot character. They would cut between film scenes that would use Stallone's voice and new scenes with a guy who sounded nothing like him.
I have played all of the ratchet and clank games and even the 2016 game. I also love the 2016 game, but what still bothers me is why they removed some of the best areas in the original game and the story was predictable. I also expected the original soundtrack in the game but more modernised, but they instead made new ones with small hints there and there of the original soundtrack. The movie wasn't as bad as I have heard people say, but it still bothers me that they had to change so much about ratchet. While the movie didn't bring as much money as it took to produce it, the game is one of the best selling ps4 games. Welp at least the new game rift apart continues from the original plot after Nexus.
crash, ratchet, jak, spyro, sackboy, big daddy, kratos, sly even nathan are all great iconic mascots. also the other joke i also really like was qwark quote "im listening" xD
Here in Latin America we had an extremely popular youtuber dub the voice of Sonic for the movie. He did (in my opinion at least) ok, but mostly because of the people in charge
Apparently, 2 Italian UA-camrs did the dubbing for Cora and Zed. They both sucked. Particularly the one for Cora. It's incredible what people will do for money lol
8:40 I know you only touched on the most notable tidbits, but you didn't mention the Dan Johnson easter egg they snuck in there. He was an artist at Insomniac Games that died in his early 30's near the end of 2006. I thought it was nice to see that they still remember the guy after all of these years...
I was so excited for this movie when I first heard about it. But yeah, basically just felt huge, crushing disappointment when watching it. They turned Ratchet into a total dork. I remember finding it really annoying that Drek, the huge evil capitalist villain from the first game, was just turned into a sheep and never mentioned again. The uncharted series would actually make a good movie series. It’d just be a cool action-adventure movie
Yea, it should be called Modern Indy Jones
@@heckno15yearsago They are actually doing a prequel story. It will be about a younger Nathan Drake before the events of the first game.
Ratchet going from a selfish douche to a hero was a really important part of his arc in the first game. Getting rid of that makes him so bland.
I think they compensated well by swapping it with a “Wannabe hero to actual hero” arc
He was still a selfish douche just better writing

How hard is it to just take the story of the game and make it into a movie. I've seen people on UA-cam just edit cutscenes and bits of gameplay together to feel like a movie.
the problem is the time limit
To be perfectly fair, Ratchet & Clank (2002) doesn't really have a cohesive story that could be adapted into a movie. Certainly not a good one at any rate.
@@100nitrog2 rac1 story is incredible, tf

in defense of the movie and the studio working on it, the entirety of the original story draft and script was replaced with a safe cookie cutter copy paste job because Hollywood execs didn’t like how it was, and this movie serves as a reminder that in the film industry you should always tell Hollywood execs to fuck off!
Dam
I went to see this movie on its release date in theaters and I also remember it being empty more than I remember the movie itself lol.
If it fell while you were watching the movie it would have been fucking perfect.
I guess it doesn't help that the movie came out around the time as the jungle book. Whether the jungle book was good or not it made nearly a billion dollars so it definitely impacted this movie
ngl that story made me chuckle - can't say this movie did even once
