  • It's very common for families of newly diagnosed autistics to search for a cure.
There are a number of evidence based treatments that are effective in teaching the skills that a child needs to be as independent as possible. Some examples of evidence based treatments are: Applied Behaviour Analysis, Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy.
Families should endeavour to use these interventions and not divert resources towards non evidence based treatments. Some examples are: autism diets, chelation therapy, listening therapy, dolphin therapy and hyperbaric oxygen chambers.

I like what you said about it being a grieving process and how there is no timeline.

Thanks! It's so true. There's no one way to process an autism diagnosis (or any special need diagnosis, really). Sometimes it's simple and other times (more often) it's complex and the parent cycles through the process going back and forth at different times.

Despite what most people say I believe so because technology over the last century has evolved quickly and can meet the demands of helping humans live better lives than in the past.

I absolutely agree! There is no room for #ShockTherapy in ABA.

Honestly if a shock could get rid of my autism and make me able to talk and look at people, I'd gladly take it. I'd rather have a quick large shock for one moment than have suffering and cringe for my whole life. It would be worth it, at least for me

I agree #stoptheshock autistic people should NOT be afraid of who they are and they shouldn’t be physically shocked

I'm an autistic teen and I don't want to be. How can I try to treat myself easily without my mom knowing? I'm kinda sad there is not a cure yet. Maybe the future I could be cured?

Hi! I would recommend talking to someone at your school about what resources are available where you live. It’s hard for me to give advice without knowing more. A trusted teacher or guidance counselor would be a better person to help you. Take care.

Hi im also a autistic teen and i say you should be proud of your neurotype its those damn so called “normal people “ who makes you feel like you have a desease like you are broken but thats not true you and i both a wonderful brains its like saying you want to cure blue eyes or brown hair autistic brains are just different but not less try watching Chloe haydens channel to see how you should feel about your brilliant mind and that a “cure” is not needed look at albert eienstein he was autistic and yet the most intelligent human who ever existed
