How to install Automatic door weather seal - Raven RP3

Having installed one of these today, I would further state: 1. Don't cut the door seal to the exact width of the door (frame to frame), you need to cut it a few millimeters shorter for the non-hinged side of the door. If it's flush with the door, you won't be able to shut it without the door seal or aluminum rubbing against the frame. 2. When securing the door seal with the screws, I recommend securing the hinged side of the door first as this will give you a little wiggle room if the other side is too close to the door frame (also it will give you a better guide if you have to trim any extra off). If you start the other way, you may have a gap at the hinged side.

You explained that very clearly. I am having to replace my old Raven door seal which has been fantastic until the spring mechanism rusted away. After nearly 20 years of use I'm not complaining. Thank you for reminding me how to install the new one.

Not concise. He made very rookie mistakes. You learned how to do it wrong in this video.
1:35 You cut it on the WRONG END. Whenever cutting things like this you should always cut on the side that is less seen , where people will notice a non straight or not factory cut. 3:52 Also you put the cam on the WRONG SIDE. For the same reasons but adding that the side you put it on can very from season to season, cold or height temps.
@@AztecWarrior69 cam goes on the latch side for this one mate. other profiles are sometimes on the hinge side but not this one.

@@AztecWarrior69 Also, in relation to the cam, personally I don't know why they don't give you two. No harm in having two, and it would secure the other side more.

But just because someone says they're a single mum, it doesn't mean they're stupid or not capable, far from it. It demonstrates they want to give it a go, to be independent, to do what 'hubby' would usually do. No greater feeling than being industrious and autonomous.

Might have enough room on the inside of this for a line or 2 of spray foam too, maybe a more appropriate mod for the winter climates
That is a bad idea. It will make it look uglier than it already is.
It wouldn't affect anything with the aesthetics since you can't see the foam ( it's sprayed on the inside of the hinge where there's a bit of a gap )
If you think the base model is not appealing they come in different colors to match your door.
It's extremely practical for what it's designed to do which is keep cold air and pests out

Will it work for a double door which both doors close in the middle, ie the stopper on the door frame will be on the opposite side, not on the side the door swings to close

will this work if your if your door has 3/8 gap 0n 1 side and 1/2 inch on other side likendoes it adjust to not perfectly strIght gaps
yeah these do work on uneven doors gaps, measure up from the ground (not the door bottom) on each side of the door , great video Bill

Can I use this seal to help protect the bottom of the door? I have some very small water damage on the bottom and I will sand and re-paint it but hoping to get this to help protect the bottom of the door.
If you use the Raven RP3, yes, it should protect from water damage. We are installing one to stop water coming in under the door during hard rain.
Can you do this on French doors ? Putting the cam on the inside / hinge side edge ?
No, you need a weather seal that has a button on one end that gets pushed in when the door shuts.
Cowdroy make them, cut to size, cant remember the model number.

@@GustavoSellsOC I bought a similar product from Shell Lumber called MD flex o matic door sweep
I was intrigued, but it looks like maybe it could too easily get damaged by either stepping on it, or kicking or hitting the cam with something you are carrying or moving, not sure about this one. Also about wear on the cam. Idk no sweeps last forever, this may have a shorter than normal life idk.

If the plastic cam broke you could probably just screw a small piece of wood to the frame it's just to push it down to make contact with the ground

put this on the inside, but it might not seal as well because of the angle.
You don't even need this type of seal. If the door swings out, all you need is a regular type of door sweeper/seal.

The leading corner of the weather seal, scrapes the door stop when opening and closing the door.
Yes, that's right. I installed one of these today. I read the instructions which said to leave 3mm on the closing side of the door. However, I followed the advice on this video instead (to cut the door seal 'frame to frame'') and found that I had to cut some more off as the door seal scraped up against the door frame. It was a bit annoying actually. I should have stuck to the instructions.
This would be great if the camera moved slowly. I am still motion-sick from watching this!
