That was Prypeat, near Chernobyl Nuclear Power Station in the former SSR of Ukraine. The city was deserted on April 27, 1986, after the explosion of Unit 4 of the power station.
I found your channel because my favorite group of all time is Pink Floyd, better yet, David Gilmour, and I love to listen to reaction videos to get another person's take on this great music. I'm impressed that you've taken the time to listen to the entire CD and not just select a single song and move on. To get the full conceptual experience of Pink Floyd, this is the way...thank you....and there is so much more to explore, welcome.
Amazing. They got permission to film in the ISS to make it look empty, and also Pripyat. They always seem to pay a lot just for the hell of it. They felt like playing in Pompeii, so they did it. It is brilliant!
The parts from Pripyat show how quickly the city was evacuated, and though people can go there (not recommended), the city sits deserted, waiting to be totally reclaimed by nature. Part of the significance of the Pripyat moments is that human beings often try to outdo nature (in this case the nearby nuclear power plant at Chernobyl, which melted down and resulted in one of the worst nuclear disasters in history), but nature ultimately isn't fazed by our deeds (even though we, too, are part of nature). It's a powerful video overall, the movement from the triumph (but isolation) of the ISS, to the haunting aftermath (but returning to nature) of Chernobyl. Love the work you put into these, btw, and appreciate the time you're taking with PF!
The images are from a town called pripyat very close to Chernobyl and it was evacuated in about 1 day which is why there's so many things left on tables and Floors! It represents absence and being actually Marooned either on the ISS or marooned away from home!
Such an amazing song, and what an amazing album. One of my absolute favourites of all time. My father is a big fan of Pink Floyd, and an even bigger fan of David Gilmour, so i remember him having it on repeat in the cassette-player of our car as we went to my grandparents place on the western coast of Sweden during a couple of summers in the mid to late 90s. This album always brings me back to that time. It invokes such nostalgia that i can smell the ocean even here in my cabin so many miles from the sea, and i feel the cool breeze on my face as we sat on the rocks by the water while watching the sunset bathe the world in a golden/orange glow on the warm summer night, and i can even feel the waves washing over me/carry me as i swam for hours whilst observing the world beneath the waves through my snorkeling mask. Oh how i miss those days...
I'm pleased to hear you like to listen to a CD in it's entirety. That's the best way to listen to PF. I bought the Wall in 1980 and listened to it straight through twice. Got up at 2 in the morning and l listened again. I'm 81 and became a fan since Meddle in the late -60's. I still listen to The Wall and Pulse often. The all time best music ever.
I'm fairly sure that the images present the reality of being Marooned, as the title indicates. Alone in space, living in a nuclear fall out zone, ect. Another master piece. Having known this music since it's year of release, it might surprise you to read that I'd never actually seen the video till now. I'm so loving these consecutive reactions to Floyd. It's like multiple Christmases coming together. This particular track would normally pull me out of myself, and subject me some wonderful fantasy. But not this time, the video kept me planted to my seat. Mat this album never end.... TTFN.
Well if you noticed the word Marooned definition basically means the abandonment of something you can no longer call a home, which is what they’re showing here are clips and images of the citizens of Chernobyl who were to be forcefully evacuated for their own safety, leaving behind personal belongings and even abandoning their own pets for safety reasons. Sadly to this day they’re not allowed to step on those grounds.

That's my favourite one, beautiful mom! Thanks, to you, I can listen to it again! (you know, UA-cam is a shit channel sometimes, because of the copyright!) But, as you get the CD, you have the right to listen to it, with us! Thanks, honey ! That, song, is madness! Coming from another galaxy! I think, I'm going to cry again! 😭Thanks, beautiful, young mom to share that with us! Kisses from FRANCE 👍😋🎸🇫🇷😘✌️
I think, the strange images, at the end, were from Russia, when, they tried to challenged the USA, to go in space you know? The cold War and everything! BUT, AS YOU SAID, IT'S NOT PINK FLOYD WHO DID THAT CLIP! There's no link between the images, and the music! Try to listen to it again, just, by closing your eyes! The sound of the guitar, how, it's going higher and higher, it's just, beautiful! 😘🇫🇷
As Roger Water once said. Videos have ruin the music business. you had to listen to the words too see what the song is about. Vids. have taken away your imagination and how to listen.
True, however there are no words to this song. Freddie Mercury also didn’t care for videos…he said it ruined the listener’s interpretation of the song.
This is the only song that Pink Floyd won a Grammy for. Best instrumental in 1994.
Best Rock Instrumental Performance (37th Annual Grammy Awards in 1995).
Isn't that crazy? Only one Grammy in 50+ years of music. The academy is nuts.

We are marooned on a tiny planet in an empty vast space and we had better look after it.
"...vacuumed into the music" Good description.
You have emotional sensitivity.

Thanks for this Randi ☺ ... " The Division Bell " one of my favourite albums, hope you can do more off this
Gilmour has family in Ukraine where Pripyat is. Feels like a lament for this place and its people.
I saw Momentary Lapse of Reason live in Tampa FL in 1987 and then I saw Pink Floyd Division Bell live in Clemson SC in 1994. Awesome shows as usual!
It's took 28 years, but finally someone else from pulse in Clemson, SC, I was there, was begging to wonder if it was just a dream
I was at the Clemson concert, too! VIP seats, 4th row back. Truly amazing concert 🔥🎶🔥

The old movies and the ruins are Chernobyl, I believe.

Yes, and I listen to it every night when I go to sleep. 🤗
OMG thanks. I have just found it. This will be my lullaby tonight ❤️

Amazing Pink Floyd!!!
The images were of Pripyat in Ukraine, the nuclear city next to Chernobyl.
The breaking point of this song is the girl on the balcony
You really should check out the live version of this song from the Strat Pack concert in 2004 if you haven't already done so.

I am saddened that you didn't know that was Pripyat .. God ..how we forget so soon .. or never even learn about it ..

La humanidad puede lograr maravillas como conquistar el espacio y desastres como destruir su hogar
Chernobyl in Ukraine, sadly appropriate for our time...
