    The tone coming out of Tele's excellent. I like the way you show the licks you're teaching in context. It's the difference, knowing the lick's good, understanding how it can be used is the difference between knowing and not knowing.

    Hiya, Brother. Another fantastic lesson. I'm very grateful for these. We all are. I find myself saving almost each one in a Guthrie Trapp sub-list, which makes no sense, since we can all just go to your channel and search to our hearts' content. One thing which comes to mind is how clear you make the concepts, which is especially essential to what is likely the largest percentage of the playing public thirsty to learn and watching your stuff. At your level, you will always make even expert players' heads snap around. But what you do for that broad population of intermediate-to-accomplished players is not only what I'm most grateful for but what I hope creates your biggest following. Examples in this one are the emphasis on chord shapes, how you see them and pausing to talk about the mechanics of bending technique. Thanks again. You're building a very loyal following.

      They really are all tied together in ways sometimes obvious, and in other ways not so obvious. Swinging the rhythm, I IV V progressions and changing up from minor to major 3rds etc, are all important aspects of all 3 genres.
      One of my favorite players of all time Steve Morse, is superb at all 3 and can blend them effortlessly, and to my ears naturally, even within the context of a single tune.

    Thank you for the awesome lesson. I grew up listening to and learning to play guitar by listening to classic rock before branching out to everything I could in my late teens. But what I didn't know back then was just how many country riffs my favorite guitarists like Jimmy Page and Jimi Hendrix played. One of the things that makes me most proud to be a musician is that all genres have elements from many other genres. Music is truly a universal language.

    Awesome video Guthrie. I've been watching some bend videos of yours from a few years back. This one is an awesome inclusion to those lessons. I've got my triads and next octave over chord shapes down all over, thanks to you and a few other teachers. Now I'm focusing on phrasing. I keep sliding into the 2 same bends out of habit, so this video again comes at an awesome time, thanks again!

      and I've been mixing major and minor over the shapes constantly, so the major to minor bends, then back to the C shape 3rd, then an old lesson of yours that slides that 3rd on the B and D string down 2 frets then chromatics and hammers and pull offs down to open E. Awesome. I've continuously been able to mix lessons and licks from your old videos together with these new ones you're posting. It's been an amazing experience so far. And like I said Guthrie, I watch hundreds of video lessons on here a week, yours are by far up there with the VERY best of them, and they are my favorite. I look forward to the notification whenever you've posted another one. Thank you for finding the time to put these lessons forth for all of us. There are a great amount of people like myself who have played for years and never learned this information about the chord shapes. Watching Tim Pierce, Ford Thurston, Carl Verheyen, Jeff Mcerlain, Andy Aledort, and yourself, mostly thanks to introductions by Brett Papa, I've learned more in the last 4 months than the previous 20 years I've been playing. If I make it to Nashville this summer, I'm going to take up that lesson offer from you.

    0:47 key of C:
    1:01 playing out of the chord shape means…
    1:08 visualizing key notes
    1:16first classic country style string bend is G shape C chord.
    1:30three different shapes low, middle and high parts.
    1:56 playing out of the high resister G shape baring triad on b, d and g strings and then 8th fret baring with the e and b strings with the 5th finger
    2:21 play the high strings e and b and bend e ring finger on 7th fret always bending up to the major third on the 9th fret. G string 7 fret up to major third. It’s a peddle steel emulation
    3:12 bending tips: using the little finger gives enough leverage but bending with the ring finger gives more control and the middle finger even more control.
    4:05 closer up the neck maybe use the ring finger. Reinforce the finger you’re bending with.
    5:11 bending in tune in multiple string playing is crucial.
    5:54 you’re always bending up to a note So sing it.
    6:45 f bend
    6:54 g bend
    6:56 f bend
    7:00 c bend
    7:21 Key of E: c shape e chord
    8:16 classic bend country style
    8:24 fretting for it
    8:56 blues pentatonic … fretting e not 9th fret g string
    9:21 minor pentatonic in e
    11:04 over view of the whole thing
    11:15 A chord half step bend out of a shape bar chord. Bend from major 3rd up to the 4

    Great stuff Guthrie, any suggestions for a right hand that has the stupidest most uncoordinated fingers to ever play a guitar?

    • @guthrietrappmusic
      @guthrietrappmusic  5 років тому +1

      Thanks man! I would say just play what scales you know but start slow and make sure every note is clear. Don't try to go too fast. Down up down picking is what you want.

    • @aylbdrmadison1051
      @aylbdrmadison1051 5 років тому

      It very rarely is the right hand picking that is the actual problem. It's coordinating both hands together that is usually the culprit. The issue arises because you literally have to place your fretting finger(s) down *before* you pick the string(s). This means your fretting hand has to constantly stay slightly ahead of the beat.
      That may sound complex at first, but after you start doing it, it will eventually come naturally. Do it very slowly at first like Guthrie says (that is always the wisest approach), but focus on making sure your fretting finger lands a micro second before you pick the string. Then once that starts to feel normal you can forget about ever having to think of it again and it will just happen naturally.
      This is how you get past any stumbling block on the guitar. Isolate the issue (most important), then play through it slowly until it starts to feel natural. Only then do you want to increase speed.
