I studied the 6 diminished movement but haven’t played much jazz and just starting to get into it more. I cant wait to start using it in this type of application. After learning this I see the so many directions to go.
The struggle for me, as I can see it is for you, was to play these concepts without starting from the root and just playing straight up the scale or arp each time a new chord necessitates a reset. That’s a natural thing to do at first, but it’s exercise-y sounding and it won’t naturally correct itself as you get better. The only way to break out of it is to intentionally work on playing your harmonic approaches starting on intervals other than the lowest root. I went through this difficult phase way longer than I should have. The sooner you start changing the starting points and the directions of your lines the better, bc if you get really good at just playing these approaches from the root every time, it will be hard to get that out of your playing. Good job though!
absolutely agree. it’s hard to avoid starting and stopping on roots cuz it’s where my ear wants to go. but this vid was just demonstrating the basic starting point we did in that particular class. Chris always takes thru many iterations of any given thing, often triggered by something one of us-the students-does, which changes the whole trajectory. So much to study, so little time. Just this morning i was doing nothing but playing the melody to TWNBAY in various positions because i realized-after making simple chord melody arrangements i actually couldnt play the simple melody, unadorned. great fundamental stuff. thank u for watching and taking the time to make such a thoughtful comment. I really appreciate it as I’m sure others who read it will. 🙏🙏🙏
An honor to be subscriber 338. I think I have come up with a new theory that it may not be in the fingers but also in the marvelous hats that you wear. thank you so much for taking the time not only for the theory and application but also the humor that is very much appreciated. looking forward to more videos and learning along the way. thank you so much.
Mann what a nice note I so appreciate you and everyone else who subscribed you should’ve waited to be 340 a nice round number but 338 is pretty great too. Thank you so much six fix79!
You are a great teacher. You can tell you put a lot of effort into editing these videos to make the concept easy to follow. I love that you are sharing what you learn and helping others. Keep it up!
thnk u thequeenkia! it means a lot to me when someone like yourself gets something out of it and making these videos really is helping me retain the information myself! 🙏🙏🙏
Hey Jeremy , I was building fence columns for a client today and a triaxle trailer friday. So looking forward to coming home and checking this video. It did not disappoint. Kinda makes sense of a couple of Bakers exercises. My life can be chaos so the one little thing i can control is my guitar therapy . For me its not so much about getting better (at my age i forget everything i learned 5 minutes ago lol) but just the meditative quality and you sir are fantastic. Just so know.
dude, love the effort you put into editing this. great explanations too. i love when parts of different tunes line up perfectly. will for sure learn and practice this stuff.
oh man! thanks for that brother. yes, for me to process a bit of the barry stuff and translate it back in this format and to try to make it fun and entertaining is many hours spent! but i love doing it and each subject I make a video on I can promise you I will not forget that information. I have a really hard time remembering musical information but it making these videos helps me absorb it anyhow thanks bro. 🙏🙏🙏🙏
dude! thats awesome! like every other guitar geek im a fanboy. love that he hit 100k too. but thanks for your sub-i have a cool video dropping hopefully later today or tonight CST US. 🙏🙏🙏👊
Does altering the speed of the video also tune your guitar up a half step, or are you just tuned up a half step? Bb sounds like B; D sounds like a Eb, etc
I don't change the speed of the actual playing--only my yapping...to try to cut down o run time. If there is a sped up playing example it's a mistake or i did it deliberately if its a cover to avoid copyright issues. Thanks for watching! I just posted #1 in a series on Tommy Bolin's playing on Billy Cobham's Red Baron. Check it out!

Wardrobe changes! A true entertainer ;)
unintentional. just millions of reshoots and reedits over multiple days to get the complex theory (complex to me anyhow)info correct!
