Over the last few days I been watching the Astra series of videos. Really really great. Car looks great lots of work that’s definitely paying off. I’m hooked. Gonna go and watch the fiesta series now!
Joe Ingram I’m sure your right although it’s not something I have noticed but now James as pointed it out to us it’s hard to ignore. 🤣 cheers and have a good Christmas. Steve.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year James....keep up the good work. Your vids are addicting and the model cars you work on dont even come to Canada haha
Happy Christmas mate, have a good new year too! Looking forward to the next year with the Astra, I think the snowflakes will be a huge turning point for the car and it will look real good.
Agreed, and if he can't get the spacer off after the winter, he then won't be able to get the drum securing screw out and the drum off, I would have put some grease, any grease will do, between the spacer and the drum and maybe even a bit between the wheel and the drum. Actually I do that now on all my wheels when I put them back on the car.
Need to be careful with Copper grease/anti seize compound when using dissimilar metals - steel & aluminium - it causes a dielectric effect, which increases corrosion & fusing things together. Ed China has a video about changing disc brake pads/dìscs etc, he dispels the myths & explains it in layman's terms.
@@garyphillips7993 Well, sit corrected, I will still add a light smear of grease though because I've never had a stuck on wheel with grease, but without grease I had a wheel on the wife's Sportage that wouldn't come off without hitting it very hard.
Cant agree mote, i had an audi a3 with fused back wheels ended taking a sledgehammer to the bottom of the tyre inside lol. But dont think the 4 studs gonna stay on long enough to fuse. Cant wait for the snowflakes to go on dude what colour u going? Sparkle black would look well nice
Makes you wonder why the manufacturers don't put copper grease on their alloys and brakes from new? Or main dealerships & service centre's, I dunno, maybe they know something....scientists & experts, what do they know...😉 Each to their own I guess...
Looks so much better with this new setup! You're videos are getting better and better and I find it amazing how much effort you put in this channel. No doubt this is my favorite channel, it's addictive to watch :) Cheers from the Netherlands!
Great video James it definitely looks a lot better with the spacers, with the GSI alloys on next year, I cant wait for that video, the front wheels are alright to be honest.Happy Xmas and new Year.
Finally a channel that shows someone working on his own car doing stuff that can be done on your driveway. Not take it to a garage and throw loads of cash at it. Fair play to you mate. Merry Christmas 🎅🏾🎅🏾🎅🏾
Merry Christmas James, I have just bought myself a 2000 Fiesta Ghia and am taking inspiration from your videos to try and make the car as nice as possible without ruining it. Got some Heko wind deflectors on order and hopefully getting a new set of original alloys in the new year to try and get it back to its former glory. 😁
Cooler video mate! I really hope you will do the rear disk brake conversion because I want to do it too. Your videos are really educating. Greetings from Romania! Merry Christmas.
Love your videos bro, I really like those wheels anyway lol you done a great job so far with the astra love it so far bro. Have a great Christmas mate 👌🎄🎁
Go down puond stretcher and get rubber matts for the winter , all you have to do is wash them down with a hose lol. Have a great Christmas and a blessed new year . All the best and keep up the good work.
Personally I think it looks really good like that! Almost how It should have looked stock. Great video mate, Merry Christmas! Have a good one and we look forward to more videos :)
I'm not too into mechanics as my Dad used to get me to help him all the time and i never took to it. If my dad had the energy you have I'm convinced I would now have my own garage haha. Just goes to show, anything can be interesting if taught the right way
Any chance you can do a video on how to remove the egr valve and clean the egr valve and the egr channels on a 1.6 astra? Mine is a mk5 but it would be pretty much the same way of doing it
Great vid James and I know I'm abit late in the day in saying this but next time you need to grind the top of a torx bolt like u had to, to get the spacers flat, try a HSS counter sink and just put a deeper counter sink into the tapped hole, it won't harm the threads inside, it will just cut you a new lead thread, then the bolt will sit deeper.
I got the MK4 Sri turbo 190 . As for your comment on wheels I picked up set Saab 17s for 50 quid and changed the profile over to 215/40 to make them fit. All in all I think look good and think my total was £150. But dose need stiffer shockers as bumps in road above 40 hits top rear archs
Hey man I’d recommend torquing the spacer bolts to 130. Also go circa 20 over wheel ratings. Been doing it for years, had issues torquing to 110 before with them loosening off
You should have put a barrier like copper slip between the drum and the spacer. The dissimilar metals can weld together and you'll have a nightmare. Getting them off.
the screw (as at the front in the disc) so the drum /disc doesnt fall of when your changing your wheels :) The drum/disc is held in place with the 4 /5 nuts :) Cheers
Arent you doing a 5 stud conversion? Wouldnt it be better to wait for that and buy one set of 5 stud spacers? I know they aint that cheap, kind of a waste of $$ buying 4 stud spacers
Hey! I don't know much about lowering/spacers etc., but I assume you'll need new spacers as well once the new drums and wheels get bought? If so then is that not quite a bit of coin to drop on something that's going to be temporary? Looks 100% better though, cracking job.
Dude are you charging the wheels ??? Lol some people are thick as pig shit, and at the end of the day it's down to you what you do and when, have a good Christmas and new year
The screw is a grub screw it’s to hold drum in place when the wheels are off but it would be fine without it though as the wheel bolts hold it in situ. Looks better with the spacers 👍
Nice. What was up with the transponder chip from previous video? You also haven't finished off vid that you were doing with Tom, have you? apologies if you have and i've missed it. Keep up the good work and have a Merry Xmas and New Year James.
hi good videos m8 , good to see there is others getting wet and cold lol . Did tracking need doing after fitting the wheel spacers ? and where did you order from ? . thanks .
Does it have any negative infleunce on a top speed? Let's say Astra could go 200km/h with original hubs on and after putting a new spacers, I reckon it will have some impact on the safety let's say if you drove so fast . Do you need to do wheel reallignment on the front after putting them on. I know the change is symetrical so logically thinking you don't need to. By the way I proudly drive Astra G 1.8 estate elgance. Bulletproof engine as some of your fans said. I could easily back it up with no doubts.
Good video but seems a bit counter productive to go through the cost and trouble just for a couple of months? gsi snowflakes are an attractive wheel but are prone to cracking plus everyone uses them i would think of something outside the box with some meaty offsets to make it a bit more interesting
thx for the vid buddy. when i had my astra i have the same wheels but painted white. with the spacers how did the suspension parts durability do? it shorten the lifespan of the items?
GSI Snowflakes are an attractive alloy. What would it look like with the Corsa Alloys? And the snowflakes on the Corsa? Keep up the good work on the videos!
Picking up my 2nd 2.2 Sri tomorrow. Definately the first thing I will be doing to it. Anyone got a decent brake upgrade for the car? I remember my last one being a bit poor stopping. Wouldn't mind a bit more go to. What does a remap offer?

Copper Grease inbetween the spacer and the hub, otherwise they'll fuse together. It'll be a pig of a job to un-stick it later on! :)
