I get chills whenever I hear this woman speak. She is the embodiment of intelligence, class, eloquency and truth. As an ex-muslim woman of Asian decent living in a western country, I wish we could have more people like her, and Ayaan Hirsi Ali. They're my heroes, and perfect examples of successful immigration. I agree. She got the crowd all worked up, but her arguments were poor. Hardly arguments, really.
Most of what Brigette said hinged on bad analogies, confusing state and non state actors, as you say.
It's interesting that she's essentially agreeing with the questioner with regards to the important premises: 1) this is a war against an ideological enemy, so in large part a war against ideology, and 2) most Muslims don't hold these ideological views.
Where she goes off the rails is suggesting that it's useful to lump all muslims in the way that citizens are lumped when states are at war. States are essentially organized people that contribute in some way, even if often involuntarily, toward whatever activity is considered hostile. In as much citizens are controlled by the culpable state powers they are considered a part of it. So even while that doesn't justify targeting civilians or holding them equally culpable as state leaders, it's a more meaningful definition of "the enemy" than lumping all Muslims everywhere despite being unable to point out any meaningful organizational, ideological, state, geographic, or familial ties. It's absurd, really.

It consisted of several clauses covering all aspects of human rights including such topics as the protection of Christians, freedom of worship and movement, freedom to appoint their own judges and to own and maintain their property, exemption from military service, and the right to protection in war.
An English translation of that document is presented below.

This is a message from Muhammad ibn Abdullah, as a covenant to those who adopt Christianity, near and far, we are with them.
Verily I, the servants, the helpers, and my followers defend them, because Christians are my citizens; and by Allah! I hold out against anything that displeases them.
No compulsion is to be on them.
Neither are their judges to be removed from their jobs nor their monks from their monasteries.
No one is to destroy a house of their religion, to damage it, or to carry anything from it to the Muslims' houses.
Should anyone take any of these, he would spoil God's covenant and disobey His Prophet. Verily, they are my allies and have my secure charter against all that they hate.
No one is to force them to travel or to oblige them to fight.
The Muslims are to fight for them.
If a female Christian is married to a Muslim, it is not to take place without her approval. She is not to be prevented from visiting her church to pray.
Their churches are to be respected. They are neither to be prevented from repairing them nor the sacredness of their covenants.

Saba Ahmed is the only insincere person there, and how well played, timid voice, standing in the back, calling herself a student and emotionally question why muslims are viewed negative. All the right buttons for those that see muslims as anything but oppressed powerless beings to pop a vein like miss Gabriel, and after reading up on Saba Ahmed, with all reason to be blunt as a brick knife. Also the doing-away-with-ourselvers over in the left corner followed suit with giving Saba a platform in the whitewashington Post as their new endangered minority.

Brigitte's final point is a good one. Why, when a Muslim stands up to contribute to a conversation like this, is it never "I'm ashamed of my faith and you're really making me think" but only "Most Muslims are nice, you're wrong, leave us alone." It's always their scuzzy religion first and their adopted country second (or not at all).

John Kennedy The radicals are simply applying literally the example of Mohammed and instructions from the Quran and the hadiths. Those exhortations to do violence are right there in black and white. So Islam's not like other religions- that's a big fat crock of denial. It encourages violence rather than peace, lying, contempt for the infidels, abuse of women, and seeks to control every little aspect of people's lives. Indeed, I do know several Muslims and they're good guys in spite of its teachings, not because of them. Just look at the violent mess the Islamic world is in.
I think for christians their god is also supposed to come fist, most I've encountered aren't too serious about this but there is definitely a vocal number of them that feel that their religion is being oppressed here in the states and are ready to take up arms and fight the elected government to defend it. Even the recent birth control ruling points to this... their religion is more important than the rule of law in America... if it wasn't, nobody would have filed a lawsuit.
Stou Sandalski Well that's a point- although I think that Christianity's being crapped on quite deliberately by the left in the USA. The difference is that Christian values are a part of the traditional culture that built the US and Western Civilisation in the first place.

The Muslim lady asked how you fight an ideological war with weapons. Well, you can't. But when we try to fight the ideological war by condemning Islamic ideology then we get called "islamophobes" and people like her complain that we're criticizing her religion and people just try to shut us up.
Just because she and many other people who self-identify as Muslims are peaceful and accept pluralism, does not mean that she represents the ideology itself. Most people we call moderates are in fact the people who adhere most weakly to their professed religion and often don't even know most of what their holy book says (as I have learned after reading the Quran myself then speaking with moderate Muslims about its content).

Jaroslaw Kaminski Only to an extent and in certain circumstances. We didn't primarily fight an ideology when we fought the Nazis. We fought the German government. The German people largely turned against Nazism themselves because it clearly didn't work and was so horrible. But Nazis and fascists of all kinds still exist throughout Europe and tend to rise up depending on social and economic factors, so the ideology was not defeated. Trying to kill them all is not going to work.
