I find it safer to put the toilet rolls on the top and the heavier items on the bottom shelf. It stabilizes the shelf having the heavy stuff lower and the toilet paper won't dent your head if it falls off.
I know I'm late to the game on this video, but I wanted to tell you that it's really nice. I think you've done a great job with a wonderfull, useful assortment of shelves (I especially like the green ones where you keep your "tins" (we call them cans over here, but I like 'tins' better!). Just in the past two weeks my husband, daughter, and I have been consolidating my various "stashes" into one large pantry in our (never-used) guest room. With things the way they are in this world right now, it's a good feeling to be able to look in one room to see what you have an abundance of and what you need to refill. Thank you for sharing your prepper home grocery store! May The Lord Bless you and your family.
I love your comment “I like to stand in here cause it makes me happy”. Whenever I get discouraged or sad about something, I stand in my pantry and it makes me happy. 😊 I love how you’re organizing your preps. I use file cabinets for some of my bagged or packaged items. If you ever need a little more storage space, you could add a shelf unit right in the middle of the room on that grey rug. I’d rather suck in my breath and squeeze between shelf units than have to stop prepping cause I ran out of room. I’m in the USA, and I love your accent. Keep up the great work! ❤
Well done! I’m in a bungalow too, however no spare bedroom to do this in because my daughter came home with her little boy, (not that I’m complaining) I’ve been squirrelling stuff away for a good while, hubby says I could fit a square peg in a round hole with ease, personally I think it’s because, where there’s a will, there’s a way, it’s amazing what you can do just by putting a bit by every time you go shopping.
It sounds to me like you're doing an amazing job for yourself and your family! It is very true that a little at a time does soon add up to a really good store cupboard!! ❤️💕
Hello, I just found your channel and enjoyed listening to your coverage of the products that you have. You mentioned that the room makes you happy, it’s the same with me whenever I’m in my pantry I have a sense of satisfaction. Thank you for sharing. Btw I’m in Florida USA. Look forward to your next video.
You have done a fantastic job at getting this room prepared and getting the contents in. There are a few items you have that we do not have here in the US, like mushy peas. We have cream style corn, but not mushy peas. We don’t have suet in a can either. Suet is mostly sold in flat squares for feeding birds in the winter. We have lard, but none in tins, so this was very interesting. Blessings!
One prep at a time goes a long way. I got a second Large shelving unit as well. Thanks for sharing and as things are at the moment, Preppers will never be disappointed but grateful that we put away some preps for our loved ones.
Wow Tilly! That is a nice space for all the food. Well done! I have to move, because I have the disease polyneuropathy what I know since almost two years. It is slowly progressive. So I having already trouble with climbing the stairs. In my next home I hope to have a spare room what I will use as pantry. (Not only for food, but also for cleaning products.) Just as you did. You are a great inspiration. 💙 Irma from the Netherlands
Hello Irma, I'm so sorry you are having to move because of health issues! I pray that you will find the right home to move into and that it has a wonderful room that you can turn into a prepping pantry! ❤️💕
Hello Tilly 👋 hope you and your family are keeping well, yes please I would love to see the carry on from this video. You have such a great stock well done .sending love and prayers 🙏 to you all God bless you all.
Hello Diana, 👋 we're doing ok thank you... I hope you and yours are well too! I'll get a follow up video recorded once I get everything get put back into the pantry, it's surprising how long it all takes to organise. 😳 God bess you my lovely! 💕❤️
New to this but I can imagine a lot of these food products will have similar best before/expiry dates. Therefore how do you consume them. What is the reality of safety of expired food stuffs. I find the whole subject overwhelming and I don’t know where to start.
Ideally you should “rotate” your pantry food. That means organizing all your food, and consuming the foods that are closest to their expiration dates first. Some people take a sharpie pen and write the expiration date on the top of the food tin or package, so that you can quickly locate the expiration dates without having to pick up each tin and search for the expiration dates. Don’t buy foods that your family normally does not eat. Your prepper pantry should be filled with food that you regularly eat anyway with some extra for an emergency, if you rotate your food it will always be fresh. Takes a bit of time but worth it. That’s how grocery stores avoid having old expired food at the very back of every shelf. They “rotate” it so that the newest food is in the back and the oldest tins are rotated to the front of the shelf. Prepping is all about organization.
Nice video. New subscriber from Texas USA. I prep a little. It is just me and my teenage daughter. So I make sure we have four things on shelf and when we use one we buy another to restock what we used. Thank you so much for this video.
Wow, I've got shelf envy Tilly, that's a Fantastic set up. 🤗 Yes, I'd Love to see more, with the finished results too.👍 You can put S hooks in the holes in the metal shelf uprights, for hanging Can Rings, drying Herbs, & Onion filled tights too. Lol. TFS Tilly, take care & keep busy everyone. ❤🙂🐶
Yeeyyy I've asked you to do a pantry tour for ages and it's finally here thank you tilly ... please could you do another video when you've finished it , love to you and Neil x
Wow, you are doing a great job. Here is a list of items that last indefinitely if stored in a cool, dry dark place. Pure Vanilla Extract, Oatmeal, Sugar, Brown Sugar, Rice, Tea, Instant coffee, Salt (purchase some Pink Himalayan) Beans, Skim Milk Powder, Potato Flakes, Sya Sauce, Baking Soda, Cornstarch, Jello, Maple Syrup, Honey, Distilled Vinegar, Cocoa, Skim Milk Powder . Do not vacuum seal your sugars, but you can either store items in Mason Jars, Mylar bags with oxygen absorbers or vacuum seal bags.
Tilly. Would it be possible for you to show us how you use your break bleeding kit for your prepping please? I'm very new to all of this so when you said break bleeding kit I was 😳 eh?! 😅 It would be great to see how it works. I'm guessing the kit is used for cars normally but I don't drive so can't imagine how it would work for sealing jars. Xx
Hi I'm a new subscriber. I came looking for UK pantry ideas. I appreciate this tour. We are using our spare / box room for storage. I'm yet to set up. Thanks for the tips on weight distribution. Also the marker. The measured porridge oats is a great idea. I use a measuring 'cup'. I definitely need to try tinned potatoes to see how I like them. £5 Friday is a great idea! Thanks for the top tips. Jane
Very nice i am reorganizing mine this week also after i finish buying my groceries ill have to rotate the new stuff in once a month i clean the shelves and inspect everything pull all stuff needing used up first try to keep everything looking good and rotating right dont want to lose a drop
Hi Tilly I make a big batch of instead oats. I use dried milk, Asda just essential oats I leave one batch plan and the other I put cocoa powder and peanut butter powder in than all you do is put hot water in the bowl with 1/4 cup of the mix cover for a minute or so then eat. I love them and so quick and easy
I know exactly what you mean about feeling happy just going in your pantry I’m the same even though mine is just a large cupboard, I just stress tested my preps by doing no spend January without going to the shops once or spending a single penny.
Oh you're pantry is fabulous, I've seen your video and was really impressed with it!! I think having our pantry with prepping supplies in it gives us a peace of mind knowing that we are able to provide for ourselves even if things turn difficult.
Great video, thanks for sharing! It's best practice to put any flour or oats in the freezer for 24hrs to kill off any bugs or eggs so you don't get mites. Once they have been in the freezer they can then be stored as usual.
OOOHHHHH, my ears pricked up when I heard you say craft supplies and FABRIC! 😍 I’m an avid sewist and have been thinking about how that can have a place in prepping, adding to my fabric stash was my guilty pleasure before my pantry etc became the main focus but needless to say, I won’t be needing to buy clothes anytime soon! Thanks for giving us an inside view of your space, it’s always exciting to have a nose around
Oh gosh, I'm an avid crafter... and my problem is, I do so many different crafts! I love sewing and crochet, I also make rugs, but my prepping is definitely taking over from them all! 😃
I used to do this when I was in the UK but I did it to protect against poverty/job loss rather than societal collapse. I moved to Romanian to raise my son but never got back into it. I. Really ought to though
hello ma'am, hope your doing well 💗 it's a joy to see you active and getting things done! it gives one the motivation to get up and do. if I'm too lazy to start my day,I just watch one of you or some other prepper videos and get the inspiration and motivation I need to get moving🤗 in our home, we do not have a spare bedroom a the moment, so I put all my prepper items in tots for now. better than nothing... started sprouting some potatoes, and ordered a bunch of seeds from our local store. good luck 👍 and stay warm please 🙏
Hello, yes I am well thank you, I hope you are too! I'm so happy that I help to inspire you with your prepping. 😃 It really doesn't matter where you put your prepping supplies, and in totes is a great idea! 😃❤️💕
For my metal shelving, I used scrap board lumber to distribute the weight. I have some small wire shelving to stack boxes of cereal, saltines (etc.) , oats. So I can stack vertically, and pull from bottom. ●toilet tissue, might want to move toTOP o TOP ooo
That’s a pretty good size for a ‘box room’! My youngest had a bedroom 7ft 6 by just under 6ft- we had to have a custom bed made to fit in there when he got bigger! You are already very well prepared. I received a Kelly kettle yesterday which is my only ‘emergency’ type equipment part from my rechargeable and battery lights and torches. Plus I bought a remoska check cooker to cut down energy usage whilst we still have electricity!
We have certainly had smaller box rooms than this one too... I remember having to build stilts onto one end of my daughter's bed to fit it in her bedroom, the other end was sitting on the 'box' above the stairs. 😂 Oh Kelly kettles are great, I've never used one myself though.
In the UK you won't won't find a single home insurance policy with that exclusion, I work in the industry and have to review competitors policies and write our policy wordings. But I agree that it's safer to store outside your main living area.
@@rootofavalon3841 I make it all the time. We especially like spring veg (asparagus and peas from the freezer) or mushroom using home canned mushrooms, but mainly anything to hand. Even plain with just cheese is a brilliant side dish.
Hi Tilly, nice vid. Are you aware that when there is a disaster, emergency, you will literally have your entire street, family, hanger on ers, friends of friends, all turn up and you’ll be lucky if you come out alive? People will literally kick your door in and take the lot. This happened to us after we started with a few months. Some looser relatives discovered our supply and within a week we had all sorts turning up with every sob and hard luck story imaginable. Now I’ve moved. All my preps and supplies and hidden and buried 👍👍👍
Yes please, would love to see more. Also, may I ask what vacuum sealer you have or if you have already mentioned it could you direct me to which episode it was in please. Dug up all my parsnips a few days ago, almost 7kg so have watched your parsnip prepping episode twice now! Lots already blanched and in the freezer, today's task is parsnip crisps in the Excalibur. x
It’s just perfect. Do you have any mice traps in your pantry? Since you are not putting your bags of food in buckets you may want to consider adding a couple under your shelves.
It's just the spare bedroom for when visitors come, as far as anyone else knows hopefully. If the prices get worse or things get short supply, then you're sorted 👍
new follower from USA. Been prepping since March 2020. Started canning summer 2022. Looking for ideas on getting a proper prepping room together. thank you!
I had the Morrisons Chilli con Carni and there is no mince beef in it,Saying that it has a nice flavour and kidney beans, love ur videos tomorrow i will be sorting my tins out and stocking up on more stuff,Take care always........Bless
@@rootofavalon3841 Thanks i will give that a try,My father is Jamaican so if you want a healthy spinch like food i suggest Dunns River Callaloo it is high in iron........Bless
Looking at where your ceiling light is situated suggests that your house is built pre-1970, maybe even pre-WW2. I hope that your floorboards and joists are strong enough to carry all that weight. Explanation for non-Brits (or Brits under 50). Bedroom ceiling lights were always placed close to the window in working-class and some middle-class homes from the advent of electric lighting to newer builds from the 1970s onwards. This was for the sake of modesty. It meant the light was between the window and anyone undressing in the room so their undressed outline could not be seen through thinner curtains. Rich folks had the luxury of thick curtains of course.
Greetings from San Antonio, Texas USA. This is a fantastic pantry. Great shelving and very organized. I love your soothing voice. I can tell you are a lovely caring lady. You are well on your way to a fully stocked pantry. I’ve never seen a pantry with suet before. Is that a British thing?
Hi Terry, 👋 Thank you very much! 🥰 I'm really enjoying putting this pantry together. Oh I guess suet could be a British thing, I didn't realise that... I's a shelf stable saturated fat.
Must admit I like to keep a few more things in after everyone going bonkers over covid and buying all the food in the shops but I wouldn't normally eat so much canned stuff and I don't want to buy things I wouldn't normally eat.
Do not forget Tea & sugar & pet food too if you have pets! plus how long are you prepping food for? this is my worry, is it going to be for years? I am a born worrier sorry, but the state of things makes me wonder if its ever going to get better & when!..take care & well done to everything you have done so far, great organisation x
Thanks Sharon, I have all of those things already, they just haven't been put back into the pantry yet. I would like to get to the stage where I have enough food to last my family for a year, but it's difficult really because of the shelf life of a lot of the food... We don't constantly eat tinned and processed foods, so can't keep rotating stock. I think anything that we can do now is better than doing nothing at all, and I'm hoping to do more of my own shelf stable meals so at least it will be healthier than buying al processed foods. ❤️💕xx
Yes I would love to see more if other want. The Lidl Mushy Peas are my favourite. The oat "sachets"... do you microwave them? If so, for the same time as the quaker? We've tried doing it with a lot of oats and they are not the same. The quick oats are steamed then dried so are quicker to cook and we've never got it to work. Haven't tried the asda essentials though. Thanks.
Hi, yes, I do 27g of the oats, 180ml of milk and microwave for 2 minutes, then I let it sit for 2 minutes (exactly the same as I do for the quaker oats) I did aa blind taste test with my husband and daughter, and nether could tell the difference. If you give ita try I'd be really interested to know what you think of it.
@@rootofavalon3841 I'll see if I remember when we next go to asda (I don't like porridge). But if they don't like it, I can always find a simple - minimal ingredient, preferably no bake, flapjack recipe somewhere. What do you think of the muesli? It tastes nice, but for me the hazelnuts are very hard which makes me always pay out for Alpen as everything is flaked. I can't get Mornflake swiss style anywhere easily which is my 2nd favourite. My memory is bad but I will try I and remember to let you know.
Hi 👋🏻 Tilly yes I have made our spare room into a prepping pantry because I bake bread and goodies I have put all my flours into those bags, I have forgotten the nam but they keep food for years and they are stored in my husbands car boot, it’s ok he doesn’t drive it it’s his baby 😂 it’s just for looking at 🥴☺️😊
If you want your food in tins and Mylar bags to last, it should be stored in a dark, dry, cool place that has no extremes of temperature throughout the year. Just saying…….
It's the only room in the house that doesn't get any condensation... Probably because the heating isn't on in there... but we can just move the plastic drawers and get to the windows to keep our eye on them.
The way I see it is, most people have valuables of some sort in their homes.... and I'm sure it would be easier to steal someone's high value tv or jewellery than my tins of spam and beans! 😂😂 Plus, I know how it can help others that are trying to set up a prepping pantry, and I love seeing how preppers store their food.
I find it safer to put the toilet rolls on the top and the heavier items on the bottom shelf. It stabilizes the shelf having the heavy stuff lower and the toilet paper won't dent your head if it falls off.

For my metal shelving, I used scrap board lumber to distribute the weight.
I have some small wire shelving to stack boxes of cereal, saltines (etc.) , oats. So I can stack vertically, and pull from bottom.
●toilet tissue, might want to move toTOP o TOP ooo
Wow....what a nice layout
You did an AMAZING job!
It's such a great idea to keep the $5 Friday things in one section as it helps people to visibly see how fast $5 a week can add up. Great video!
Thank you very much! Yes, I'm hoping it will be a great visual incentive for beginner preppers to see how quickly it can build!
Oh Kelly kettles are great, I've never used one myself though.
Oh I got a kelly kettle which I didn't know existed till recently! Got a camp one with the little pans etc, looking forward to trying it out
Please don't keep the gas bottle in your house. If you were unfortunate enough to have a fire it could totally invalidate your insurance.
Ohh that's a very good point, I'll get it out into the shed... thanks for pointing that out Cheryl!
In the UK you won't won't find a single home insurance policy with that exclusion, I work in the industry and have to review competitors policies and write our policy wordings.
But I agree that it's safer to store outside your main living area.
@@onlyClaire Thank you for that insider information Claire, that's very useful!
Risotto is one of the most underrated one pan meals.
It absolutely is Claire, we make a lot of risottos, but I don't think it's a very common dish to make these days
@@rootofavalon3841 I make it all the time. We especially like spring veg (asparagus and peas from the freezer) or mushroom using home canned mushrooms, but mainly anything to hand. Even plain with just cheese is a brilliant side dish.
@@lat1419 my favourite is from my childhood, lamb kidney and green pepper risotto. Not to everyone's taste but it's lovely.
Great job!
Hope that you are OK Tilley, missing your giggle ❤❤
Lovely pantry
Thank you very much Sophia!
Got pantry / spare room envy.Mine is allover the house. Need to consolidate it as have a spare attic room.
I'm really trying to get more organised, but it doesn't come naturally to me, so I completely get where you're coming from! 😂😂
great job! love seeing this:)
Yes please, would love to see more. Also, may I ask what vacuum sealer you have or if you have already mentioned it could you direct me to which episode it was in please. Dug up all my parsnips a few days ago, almost 7kg so have watched your parsnip prepping episode twice now! Lots already blanched and in the freezer, today's task is parsnip crisps in the Excalibur. x
Wow 😯 amazing
It’s just perfect. Do you have any mice traps in your pantry? Since you are not putting your bags of food in buckets you may want to consider adding a couple under your shelves.
It's just the spare bedroom for when visitors come, as far as anyone else knows hopefully. If the prices get worse or things get short supply, then you're sorted 👍
Absolutely right! I see it as safer than putting money in the bank these days!
i like the work you put in that pantry
Thank you!
@@rootofavalon3841 that okay how do you get that ideal off prepper keep up that i was try say to you best i wish i lots room like that
Would love to see a part 2
well done, everyone should do this
new follower from USA. Been prepping since March 2020. Started canning summer 2022. Looking for ideas on getting a proper prepping room together. thank you!
Hello fellow prepper, 👋 I love to see how other people store their supplies!
I had the Morrisons Chilli con Carni and there is no mince beef in it,Saying that it has a nice flavour and kidney beans, love ur videos tomorrow i will be sorting my tins out and stocking up on more stuff,Take care always........Bless
Our favourite tinned chilli con carni is the Asda Just Essentials one, and it's the cheapest too. ❤️
@@rootofavalon3841 Thanks i will give that a try,My father is Jamaican so if you want a healthy spinch like food i suggest Dunns River Callaloo it is high in iron........Bless
God I love a pantry xxx
Me too Barbara, it gives me so much peace of mind knowing that I can feed my family even if things get difficult! 💕❤️xx
Do show us the pantry room once it’s all filled up 😉
Fantastic!
Thanks Carol! 😃
Excellent
Greetings from San Antonio, Texas USA. This is a fantastic pantry. Great shelving and very organized. I love your soothing voice. I can tell you are a lovely caring lady. You are well on your way to a fully stocked pantry. I’ve never seen a pantry with suet before. Is that a British thing?
Hi Terry, 👋 Thank you very much! 🥰 I'm really enjoying putting this pantry together. Oh I guess suet could be a British thing, I didn't realise that... I's a shelf stable saturated fat.
Keep a couple of your solar lights out so that they can stay charged. You never know when the power will go out.
Would love to see the rest 🙂
Hi, have you thought about including your prepping on your house contents insurance.
Hi, yes we have been talking about that, I think it's a good idea to do too. ❤️
So long as your contents sum insured is adequate you will be fine.
It wouldn’t take a lot of work to box the pipes in if you’re worried about them putting heat in the room .
Must admit I like to keep a few more things in after everyone going bonkers over covid and buying all the food in the shops but I wouldn't normally eat so much canned stuff and I don't want to buy things I wouldn't normally eat.
A good idea for you then is buying/cooking the foods you do like and preserving them in glass jars ❤
I've got 2 box rooms
@@HubsByG We like the muesli, but we do add extra fruit to it as it is a bit light on fruit
so wish I had a room I could use
I know I'm really fortunate to have this room! ❤️💕
Whoo hoo doesn't this look fabulous? I would sit in there a very happy woman😆x
Great room. Be careful to have anything close to any pipes. I had a pipe break and 4 rooms were ruined. What a huge nitemare
We want to see more
Hi 👋🏻 Tilly yes I have made our spare room into a prepping pantry because I bake bread and goodies I have put all my flours into those bags, I have forgotten the nam but they keep food for years and they are stored in my husbands car boot, it’s ok he doesn’t drive it it’s his baby 😂 it’s just for looking at 🥴☺️😊
Hi Susan, 👋 you mean Mylar bags, they're great! That's so funny, storing them in the car boot, and an excellent idea!! 😃💕❤️
If you want your food in tins and Mylar bags to last, it should be stored in a dark, dry, cool place that has no extremes of temperature throughout the year. Just saying…….
Well Done!!!
Thank you Rhonda!
@@rootofavalon3841 ♥️
Hay don't stop I was watching that 😁
Oops sorry lol ... I will do a follow up, I just thought the video was getting a bit too long! 🥰
Aren't you worried about damp and condensation in the window?
It's the only room in the house that doesn't get any condensation... Probably because the heating isn't on in there... but we can just move the plastic drawers and get to the windows to keep our eye on them.
Just found this video, all that food is now out of date..do you actually eat and replace or??
I would not be showing or telling people about. My food stock piles. 🇬🇧 👍
We wouldn't have a community if we didn't share. If someone wants your stash they'll get it regardless 👍 I am more cautious of family 😆
That's absolutely true, and I already have some family members that think it's their own local shop! 😂😂
@@rootofavalon3841 awww how naughty 😏
