Good afternoon ♥ Two things I am laughing about within the first 7 minutes....You had a pink basement I have a pink bathroom. Did I mention it is PeptoBismo pink! The other thing was your house being unlevel! Mine as well!!! Must be a Michigan thing! My husband had the worse time trying to build the breakfast bar because he was trying so hard to make sure it was level! Poor guy! I love your Pantry! It totally reminds me of mine back home! We had about 300 sq ft in our basement with shelfs my husband built. He was able to get wood for his job for free. We had shelfs around all the walls and in the center I had my five gallon buckets! We only brought about 1/4th of our pantry when we moved. I am looking forward to beginning canning . I was going to start last fall but we moved. Hubby got me an electric canner for my birthday last year!

    • @littlegreenpatch98

I hated that pink color but it wasn’t only in the basement. One of the bedrooms was pink in this house when we first moved in. I am sure the basement had a pink accent wall (still there) and cold room because it was left over. The rest of the basement is white wall’s. Somebody ran out of paint.
Electric Canner is a great way to get started pressure canning. A lot less fuss and thing’s to remember.
Which Electric Pressure Canner do you have?

@@littlegreenpatch98 I think it is the NESCO NPC-9 Smart Electric Pressure Cooker and Canner, 9.5 Quart, Stainless Steel from amazon. It is still in the box. I also was just able to purchase the
Weston 6-Tray Digital Food Dehydrator from Costco which is also still in the box lol. We were able to get it with our Costco 2% rebate check. I can't wait to use it! I also can't wait to paint our bathroom! I bought all the paint when we first got here when I would find it on special! We actually got a 5 gallon bucket of off white semi glass on sale at Home Depot for $30! I could not pass it up! The entire house needs painted inside!

After 2 years you want to start rotating out your cans of soup if you can replace them. I have found after 2 years they are still good but at the 2 to 3 year mark is when they start picking up a slight metallic taste. Not a big deal if in a starving situation but just fyi.

I don't know exactly how true this is but I have been told by many many people not many people not to have your water in direct contact with concrete that concrete will Leach into your water source. So I always make sure there's some kind of kind of separation like a carpet scrap or something that keeps my water bottles from touching any concrete. I do see that you do have something underneath the water I think it's wood pieces so that's a good thing. Wow you have a lot more stored than I do but then again I have a very small space so can't store very much. But I still do what I can. You're doing a great job.

If you separate the unit into 2 shorter shelving units, you may be able to place the shorter shelf on the foundation ledge. That would open things up a lot!!

    Thank you for your video.
God bless you but you don't need any "make work" because you are the "Make Work" all by yourself.
AGGHHH!!!! ... You said "be still my heart"! ... and I say "be still my beating heart!"
I've just entered my fifth year of prepping, ... and I wouldn't mind entering my twentieth year of prepping because that means things didn't get as bad as they are about to.
    Isn't that convoluted?
I started storing my preps in a rather large and abandoned subbasement about 12ft X 16ft and "year three", I overflowed into the main basement. Year four and I overflowed into the barn. Only stuff that will not be harmed by freezing.
Here's a tip for you, try adding a tsp of Onion soup mix in your pints of carrots and green beans. Makes a nice difference I think. You know, try a couple of jars first.
We stopped growing carrots because we can buy a fifty lb bag of ugly carrots from the factory for $5. I'm on my second bag for dehydrating and got 64 pints of canned carrots from the first bag.
Our big canned veggie is the peas an the mushrooms.
I was dehydrating Peas because the "wasted space" in the jars of dehydrated potato slices was driving me nuts, ... it's the little things eh?
The the stand up freezer quit and I canned 16 pints of peas rather than lose them. I must say that they are every bit as good as the store bought ones.
All those free potatoes I gleaned from the harvested field are almost all canned up too. I'd like to get more but I'm feeling lazy.
Besides, we have a farmer in the family who only grows potatoes and some wheat as a second crop. We get all our eating potatoes for free and people can't understand why I'd be canning up potatoes.
    Let them wonder, ...
I bought three, 35 lb buckets of local honey "over time" for my long term storage and only have little over one bucket left. I guess I like honey.
Now I remember calling you a "newbie" but I was talking about your channel, .. not your prepping. Because you have the prepping down pat.
The vast majority of my Tomatoes are home canned.
I don't do much buying online BUT! If I can swing it, I'm ordering a whack of Powdered Tomatoes just because I want them.
I like instant coffee so I have a couple of cases of the stuff as well as the ground, beans, and those bricks of vacuumed packed espresso. You can see I'm not fussy, it's all about the drug!
Those canned potatoes makes the best home fries IMHO.
OK, enough of my drivel, ... have a great one and good luck.

Thank you very much. You are such a breath of fresh air. Thank you for the suggestions. I have canned some of my carrots in DIY Onion soup mix. It is delicious and I does make. nice difference as you said. I have tried beans but I will next time I can them. Our deer carrots here are cheap as well but I have to drive an hour + to get them. May not be worth it with gas prices. I wish I could get free potato. No one in my family farm’s or even had a garden. I am also a long way outside any kind of farmland. One day I hope to move nearer to the country. 🤞🏽 I know the feel of growing out of space’s. I started in my office closet and one shelf in the cold room ♥️ in my basement. Now I have 2 closet’s, an attic closet for paper products, 5 shelves in my cold room ♥️, part of the garage, half of the rest basement and an off grid storage unit. 🤫🤦🏽‍♀️ An I am still on the hunt for a shipping container. We do what we need to do for our family / friends. God Bless

      Hi,
It’s great to hear you have started preparing. Yes bay leaves can help keep bugs away from your food and diatomaceous earth also works great. Also if your getting thing’s out maybe take them to your kitchen or a table nearby to help reduce anything that might be spilled in that area.
The shelves with the wood did come like that but it’s an old one. Now they come with press wood composite not as good as before. The Home Depot shelf have metal grid shelves rated for 1000 lbs per shelf.
We have enough food for my immediate household of 2+ year’s but I have 5 sisters and 5 brothers. Hubby has one brother. Everyone has kid’s and spouses. So if we have to help them maybe six months 😬
Water is going to be the hardest thing to store. It’s heavy and takes up space but it can be done. I store gallon & 16 oz bottles in the house. Also have a few 55 gallon food grade drum’s. Also you don’t want to store food tote’s/buckets or bottles of water directly on concrete floor. Wood pallets or pieces work good. Think about getting a water filter then you may not have to store so much if you have a reliable source for potable water.
A quick way to figure out how much you need for whatever time period 6 month’s, 1 year etc. Write down everything you eat in a week or a month. Times that by however long you are trying to build for. It’s gonna be different for everyone. Don’t forget snacks and comfort foods, things you may eat only on occasion.
I hope this help’s. Don’t let it overwhelm you. Just take it step by step an you will get to where you want to be.
Stay Safe & Keep Prepping! 🙂
      God Bless

5 gallons can go on the back concrete slab/step

    • @littlegreenpatch98
      @littlegreenpatch98  8 місяців тому +1

Yes they can but it is hard to get to them with the shelves in front and the slab/step ins’t flat or level. At best I could only do one level of buckets. I keep my seeds, potatoes, crocks & other less use things back there.

I would if it mattered but since this is the only real usable space I have for this stockpile. It not a worry I want to take on. The basement stays very cool in the heat of summer and comfortable in the winter. I don’t store short term pasta, rice, oats, flour that sort of thing down there.

You said you will eat the Keystone meat last. Do you not like it? I've seen a lot of people buy it here on YT, but I've never seen it in my stores. I did look for it online at one point.

We tried a can of the beef. We like it but the cost is so high. It’s like eating prime rib first before flank steak. So that’s why we will eat it last if it comes to that and we have nothing else.

Fantastic! Are you able to ask Aldi for cases unopened? Should yeast packets be stored in freezer? New to prepping thank you

Thank you. Storing yeast in the freezer will prolong it’s life. As far a unopened case’s at ALDI. They come off the trucks as you see them on the floor. They wrap the whole pallet not individual cases; less waste I guess. Slow an steady with the prepping. You will get to where you want to be. Stay Safe & Keep Prepping! 🙂 God Bless

How long does a bottle of water last unopened please?

    • @littlegreenpatch98
      @littlegreenpatch98  7 місяців тому +1

For those Walmart ones you see is this video we rotate through them before they expiration date. The gallons I opened one that was 6 years old. No bad smell or taste. I have a case of Core water that expired in 2021. Nothing was wrong with it. I think sealed store bought water can store indefinitely as long as the plastic is intact, stored in a cool, dry & pest free place. The only problem I see with mine is the the way I store it stacked on top of each other four or five high. The weight on the lower ones could compromise the plastic bottles. I also have a couple of 55 gallon blue water totes with filtered & treated tap water. I don’t think that water will last as long. It will need to be rotated every other year or so. Hope this helps. Stay Safe & Keep Prepping!🙂

Thank you so much for the reply. My stash is only tiny, probably only got about 10 bottles of water, but don;t use it on a daily basis only the smaller bottles which I take to work, or I use a Brita Filter jug to filter water. @@littlegreenpatch98

The amount of water that you have is great but it's not enough.keep adding to what you have . I was told ny people who have gone through a collapsed government that store as much water as possible. They said that water is the first thing that runs out . I have a 2 year supply of water..
