I am still struggling if this was a good idea. If I had taken it apart no problem but when someone else did it's really difficult to put everything together. Only the workshop manual will help me.

I would say it would be one of the easiest bikes to put together from pieces..the design is excellent in that many parts cannot be put on backwards or in the wrong order

I purchase a '80 R100RS Basket Case this past summer for $400 USD. The bike was taken apart in 2001. The PO started the restoration project and got in over his head.
Work that was completed by the PO. The transmission and drive were rebuilt by a BMW dealership. Work performed. Transmission new 5th gear and new input splined shaft and all new bearings. Drive new bearings, new drive spline with ring gear. The frame and swing arm were powered coated black. Bike came with a box of new parts.
I am guessing I will have less than a thousand dollars into the project when complete.

I sold one incomplete in pieces and made $8000 AUD
Then I sold the one I made from the two bikes for $7500 AUD
    Total outlay: $4000 AUD

Was the engine rebuilt and how much did you get for it? The prices for these bikes in bad condition are very high here in Germany. Above 5.000 €

@@bikedogtor1663 I rebuilt the top end of both bikes new barrels pistons and carburetor internals etc, I was just amazed at how much more money I got for the incomplete one selling it in parts
It didnt have a tank, I think I got $2000 AUD for the motor alone.
I wish I had a bone yard of them.
And yeh i was getting all my parts from Stephanie and Uwe Meyer
In Germany, sometimes secondhand parts from the USA also, little things etc. Its a relaxing hobby. I saved a lot of money buying direct from Germany.
Both of these bikes I purchased as non running wrecks the first was in a collision with a bent frame a 1979 R100RS $2000AUD
The second an incomplete project in better condition but incomplete 70's (something) R100S for $2000AUD

Wow then these were some good deals. And I agree it's nice how everything fits together with a little wobble here and there. My biggest concern was that I did not take the bmw apart and never worked on one before. Makes it a lot harder to find out what goes where. Now it would be easy to do another one.
