Good video. Also, noteworthy, for those of us that live below MN, best time to seed is fall, second best is spring, sprouts don't care much for heat (75*F+ just a shot from the hip guess). Also for bare spots, after seeding stir the dirt surface or put down 1/4" of peat moss for coverage. Reduces erosion and gets better seed to soil contact. Great vid stan!

Hilarious I'm pretty much it as far as figuring out what to do with what with my house of 5 years (plumbing, painting, yard, etc.). Just had a front concrete walkway and set of steps put in. When the contractor did this, the machine tore up the grass. As bad as that sounds, the house is old, the grass/yard is old, so it's a blessing in disguise for me to rake it out and put some seed down. And this video is not only fun to watch but I learned a lot. Thank you for breaking it down for us novices. I greatly appreciate it and will put this into action this week to repair my yard. Thank you! ;)

We are leveling low spots on our 8 acres and every year we do more...It's not where we want it yet but the sand and compost mixture helps, we have 8 acres so keep around the house nice and slowly doing the other 5 acres! We watch your channel daily...We are in Chaska....I now am learning to run our bobcat, and use our Scag commercial mower, I do snow plowing and removal but my husband teaches me and I'm beginning....a newbie, but your videos motivate me to learn new things! KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!

This is awesome! In my experience a true seeded grass lawn has given me better results than sod. This will seem like a silly comment, but somehow a seeded lawn ends up looking more natural and lasts really well once it's got its act together. The magic move that I learned a couple years ago when planting grass onto blank loam was to use a mini-tiller to soften things up before planting, just before you seed it. That helps huuuuuuuuugely as far as the grass starting out! Once it's started out and got even small roots down, you're all set. The main things are then to give it a few minutes of water every day, and to go completely ballistic if you see stuff like dandelions happening ... they need to be exterminated with extreme prejudice!!!!!
Trust me, the mini-tiller is solid gold

Those are some pretty foxes. Also, this is useful for me, as I'm used to dealing with the pro side of this. I did aeration, overseeding, and broadleaf/sedge control, and everyone always wanted to go suuuuuper heavy on the overseed, and then were surprised that it didn't pan out.

Just spread $300 worth of seed to overseed my lawn that is mostly weeds. I didn’t dig it up 4 inches. Religiously watering in the morning and night. I will report back with the results.

How often do you need to water new grass seed? And does the seed need to sit on top of the soil or can it be mixed in? Thanks and great video!

Search more of his videos. He gets into all of this & also how to install SOD right / wrong.
You need to water 2-3 times a day to keep soil moist, but not puddling. People can over water their lawns, just as much as underwater. Don't make a swamp.
And, yes, lightly rake in seed, so it get gently feathered down below top layer of soil for best results.
However, you can literally just drop seed somewhere & have good chance of getting a ton of seed pop up. But, there's always better, most effective methods

So if I understand this right, in order to loosen soil 4 inches deep I should get a tiller to up me do that? I am new at Planting Grass Seed. I bought Sun and Shade Mixture. We have allot of trees over and round our home. I am tired of a dirt yard, not to much on grass. We do have some big tree roots showing through the ground. Comments and helpful tips on my post would be greatly appreciated especially if they are before the weekend of March 3/4th 2018. :)
